Loved this quick read. It's just prompt after prompt after prompt, but it's a good, quick way to learn different ways of creating prompts. This is a fantastic reference, and I may invest in the peint version if it's available.

George Guidall adds perfection to a marvelously written series. These books are wonderful reads for cat lovers who enjoy mysteries or for mystery lovers who enjoy cats. The character development and understanding of small-town life really makes these books, and Guidall's voice really makes the audio books. I highly recommend this series. Any of the books is well worth the price or the credit.

Had it not been for the f-bombs and other obscenities, this would have been a great listen worthy of five stars. The narrator is wonderful and adds a lot of drama to the read, even singing some parts.

This book contains valuable info for people who have just been diagnosed as well as for people who have fought with the disease for years. However, if obscenities offend your ears, you would be better off with another book on the topic.

This is a cute cozy mystery. It's not exceptional, but it's just enough fun to be worth the listen. The narrator does a good job and has a pleasant voice. I would recommend it for a nice, relaxing read.

This is a really good, short, and inexpensive book with a lot of really good tips about studying.

The author presents 30 tips about how to approach study. The focus is on math and science, but the tips can be applied to study and review of any type.

There were some really good ideas based on particular preferred styles of learning that aren't as well presented in other books, and I particularly enjoyed the part about how to read a math book. Mnemonics, study techniques, time management, organization, and preparation for study are also addressed, and the concepts are well presented.

Again, this is a good audiobook for study of any type and well worth the inexpensive price and the short time required to go through it. You will get a lot of bang for your buck out of this one.

Good beginners guide for visualization techniques

This is another one of those books about how to memorize abstract concepts using visualization techniques. It wasn't bad, and it was short.

Essentially, the author teaches you to visualize the rooms of your home and link things in your home to mathematical formulas.

There are several other mnemonic techniques and several good tips throughout the book. I particularly enjoyed a section at the end that includes an interview with someone who uses the techniques and the different ways in which he uses them for different types of information.

It's not bad, but there are better versions of this type of book out there, but then again, they aren't as short. The narration was good, and the format of the book flowed well. It's just not the sort of book that was revelatory for me, but if you haven't heard of these types of techniques, it would be a good, quick, and inexpensive primer.

Go-to guide for learning to study anything

Revisado: 03-28-16

There are very few study guide-like books that I have ever read that will truly stay with me and help me to learn. This one, however, is very different.

What makes it so useful is the attention given to preparation for study, how to view study and practice, and how to best schedule study and practice. These tips, scattered throughout the book make this a must-read for anyone studying just about anything. I really wish I had read this book in middle school. I might have been able to really make use of the concepts presented by the author at that age.

Perhaps one of the most important points made is that, when studying, practicing, or reviewing, you should concentrate on the process rather than the product. In other words, set aside a certain amount of time every day for study, practice, or review, but don't worry about the progress you are making overall. Just do it. This is the opposite of the thought process behind cramming, which only takes the product into account (the end game of passing the exam) rather than the process of learning the material. This example is only one small part of a wealth of information presented in this book about how to learn. While the focus is on ways to learn math and science, the ideas can be applied to just about anything.

There are numerous, useful recommendations for ways to avoid procrastination, ways to avoid distractions, how and when to focus and how and when to take a more leisurely approach to the material, and ways to organize yourself and optimize time management. The author even includes a list of favorite apps for organization, note-taking, and time management.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is studying for courses, for work, or for the pleasure of learning. I really wish I had read this book a long time ago. It would have made a big difference in the way I studied for high school and college.

Love, mystery, and perfume come together...

Love, mystery, and perfume come together in this book about a woman who has to find her way after a series of life-altering events. Her fiancée dumps her at the alter for mysterious reasons, she loses her ability to smell, which, for a perfume industry "nose," is devastating, and she develops an unnerving attraction for someone she is deceiving. All of this is interwoven with Christian concepts and themes.

I would have liked more information about the perfume industry, and I thought the book moved a bit slowly at times, but it was an enjoyable read. The author did a good job, but I felt like the cadence became too sing-songy. Overall, this is a great book for someone interested in perfume, love, and mystery.

Not as advertised and not particularly useful

Generally speaking, I really enjoy the Great Courses. I find most of their courses useful and well presented. This one, however, fell short.

I gave it three stars for the information in chapters 3 and 13 (on depression) and 22 through the end of the book (how exercise, diet, etc. influence brain function). Most of the book, however, is not about how to improve your brain (therefore the part of my review title about "not as advertised"). Most of it is a primer on brain function.

Don't get me wrong, there is interesting information, here, it's just not particularly useful for any actual brain improvement. If you want a primer about brain organization and function, this wouldn't be a terrible choice, although, you could probably do better there, too.

Most of the book deals with the way the brain takes in a processes information and what parts of the brain do what. Again, this is interesting, but I didn't find any relevance to ways I could actually improve my brain.

The narration is overly cutesy for me for something like this. While there were a few entertaining metaphors and similes, the metaphors and similes were overdone and the tone seemed to be geared more for an adolescent audience.

Again, this is not a terrible choice for understanding some of the more basic points of brain function, but don't think you will get a lot of good advice about brain improvement. What should be improved is the title of the course and to some extent, the course itself.

Wonderful guide for a great diet plan

Revisado: 03-28-16

I have tried this diet recently with great success. It makes sense to me, and the authors make it clear not only what is involved (what can and cannot be eaten), but also what will undermine your success. I find these two points generally missing in most diet books. Either authors make the concepts too broad and general or they do not specify the circumstances under which people who try the diet may fail. People usually fail because of a lack of planning, because they didn't give the diet enough of a chance, or because they weren't aware of what to expect during the diet. The authors address all of these factors while giving the reader plenty of latitude for their personal considerations.

Basically, the ketogenics (keto) diet is a fat-centered, low-carb diet that flies in the face of everything we have been taught about diet and nutrition. All I can say is that it seems to be working for me. I'm losing weight, I feel better than I have in a long time, and I'm no longer hungry on a regular basis.

The authors make it clear who should not be on the diet. People with type I diabetes should avoid this because they could go into ketoacidosis, a dangerous condition. People who have had their gallbladders removed should also stay away from it because they can't process the amount of fat required for the diet.

The narration was good and the concepts were well explained and reviewed throughout the book. If you're looking for a new way to approach weight loss, this may be a book for you.
