Excellent narration as always. This plot moved slower than the others in this series that I have read. Also, there were too many similar male villains. I kept starting and stopping the book, but was finally able to finish it.

Interesting, Convoluted Plot & Good Narrator

Very suspenseful story, although most of the suspense is carried by the twisty plot. Narrator does a great job with different New England voices.

Nothing is Creepier than People

I read Carrie not long after it was published. At the time, was about ten and a precocious reader, but Carrie was too much for me. Since then, I have avoided reading horror and anything by Stephen King.

I enjoyed the movie Stand By Me. I was surprised to learn that it was based on a short novel by Stephen King. I heard Stand By Me was semi-autobiographical and figured it was a one off and that King would return to horror.

In the years since 1986, I have become aware that some of King’s work—Misery, Shawshank Redemption, On Writing, etc.—is not in the horror genre. However, it is just in the past week that I discovered the Bill Hodges and Holly Gibney novels.

In addition to horror, I avoid books and films with magical and supernatural elements. However, I am an avid consumer of hard-boiled police and detective fiction, particularly works with strong female protagonists. I was very happy to discover that the Hodges and Gibney books meet these criteria.

Wonderful characters, engrossing story. Joe Ide captures culturally diverse Los Angeles street and gang life vividly and with humor and understanding of the people and their lives. Bravo!

Connelly hits it out of the park

Two Kinds of Truth is as grim, gritty and complicated as real life. Bosch grows as a character as his black and white morality is revealed to be a construction at odds with the reality of the human condition.

Atmospheric Hard-Boiled New Detective

Cash City is a well-paced, darkly atmospheric detective novel by new author Jonathan Fredrick.

The dialogue is tight, smooth and realistic. Each character has a distinct voice, all of which are beautifully rendered by narrator Ari Fliakos.

The gritty, fictional West Virginia town of Cain City, the darkly flawed, but human characters and Nick Malick, the damaged, self-deprecating protagonist sucked me into Frederick’s world and kept me listening late into the night. I can’t wait for his next novel.

Very Slow Going

Would you try another book from Apryl Baker and/or Roxana Bell?

Excellent narration. However, the story is dragged down with too much dialogue and confusing paranormal activity.

Would you recommend The Ghost Files (The Ghost Files - Book 1) to your friends? Why or why not?

No. Baker needs to pick up the pace by cutting back on dialogue and unnecessary scenes that don't move the story forward.

Have you listened to any of Roxana Bell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but she is an excellent YA narrator.

No. I don't know anyone who would like this book.

No. This is the first paranormal romance that I have read. I realize that I do not like paranormal romances.
