A prime example of how a good novel is spoiled by such amateurish narration. The story itself was compelling.

Historia
In the waning years of Egypt's 18th Dynasty, when female power can only come at an unsettling price, four royal women struggle against the shadowy influence of Akhenaten, the infamous heretic pharaoh. Akhenaten wields control of a strange emerging religion unlike anything Egypt has seen. His power can't be denied, but whoever can maintain her grip on the unpredictable pharaoh will hold all of Egypt in her hands - and better still, will remain mistress of her own fate.

Ahhhh! The worst narrator in Audio Book history. I have listened to hundreds of hours of audiobooks and I can say without a moments hesitation. This narrator is the absolute worst I have ever endured. It is positively painful to listen to. I wish I could get my credit back. Did the author of this book ever hear this audio abomination? Any value to the story was completely eviscerated by this narrator.

Something most obviously lacking is that the author created this fascinating civilization called the, ‘Tawnee’ (sp?) yet he constantly fails to give us more insight into these characters including; their alien culture and religion.

Never saw a novel in this way. It sounds like he had plan to sequel before he got halfway through the first one. The big let down is apparently there is no sequel. The story itself was compelling, but it was like the power went out just when it reached the best part.

Narrator is Distracting

Difficult at times to tell who is talking. I wonder if Romans of the era really tied references to “The Gods” into so many conversations. At times those ubiquitous references become just plain gratuitous.

Historia
The Last Kabbalist ofLisbon, an international best seller, is an extraordinary novel that transports listeners into the universe of Jewish Kabbalah during the Lisbon massacre of April 1506. Just a few years earlier, Jews living in Portugal were dragged to the baptismal font and forced to convert to Christianity. Many of these “New Christians” persevered in their Jewish prayers and rituals in secret and at great risk…the hidden, arcane practices of the kabbalists, a mystical sect of Jews, continued as well.

KABBALAH? BARELY
Revisado: 02-19-22
If your interest is learning about Kabbalah, you’ll be terribly disappointed. It’s randomly thrown in like sprinkles on a sundae. The “who done it” mystery itself becomes a bit tedious at times. Largely depressing as one should expect from a story set during the Inquisition. Seems a bit obsessed with the frequent inclusion of male genitalia. Saying all that, the author writes some great narrative and his descriptions of his characters are quite amusing and detailed.

Historia
What if we discovered that one of history's greatest heroes had written his life story? That's the premise behind Robert Silverberg's amazing novel Gilgamesh the King. The journey begins when six-year-old Gilgamesh's father dies. As he grows to manhood and eventually ascends to the throne, he faces many challenges along the way: political intrigue, war, the burden of leadership. But none are as difficult as his intense internal struggles against loneliness and his own mortality.

Reader is terrible
Revisado: 02-10-22
The reader’s voice was so annoying that I could hardly stay focused. My mistake for not sampling the story first. All I can equate the painful narration to is somebody who sings a great song slightly off key. The song can’t possibly be enjoyed. I’m a big fan of Silverberg, but this story fell short of all my expectations. Complicated fantasy tale that becomes tedious and frequently repetitive.
