If Avery Chambers can’t fix you in 10 sessions, she won’t take you on as a client. Her successes are phenomenal—she helps people overcome everything from domineering parents to assault—and almost absorbs the emptiness she sometimes feels since her husband’s death. Marissa and Mathew Bishop seem like the golden couple—until Marissa cheats. She wants to repair things, both because she loves her husband and for the sake of their eight-year-old son. After a friend forwards an article about Avery, Marissa takes a chance on this maverick therapist.

One Too Many Characters
Revisado: 04-19-25
A bit sappy in the middle. One too many characters to track at points along the way. The authors brought it together in the end. I wonder why two authors. Worth your time, if you have it. If not, move on.

The shocking end. I felt lied to by Margo. Yes, her act was antisocial. Nearing psychopathy.

Historia
On January 15, 2009, a US Airways Airbus A320 had just taken off from LaGuardia Airport in New York when a flock of Canada Geese collided with it, destroying both of its engines. The plane's pilot, Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, managed to glide it to a safe landing in the Hudson River. It was an instant media sensation---the "Miracle on the Hudson"---and Captain Sully was the hero. But how much of the success of this dramatic landing can actually be credited to the genius of the pilot?

Brave and Talented
Revisado: 03-22-25
This story is easy to make a compulsion in interest. I appreciated the details on planes and the airline industry. Of great importance was the design history of planes and the Airbus in particular. All aboard this flight were brave and talented.

Historia
In 1822, a secret family moves into a secret cabin some thirty miles northeast of Baltimore, to farm, to hide, and to bear ten children over the course of the next sixteen years. Junius Booth—breadwinner, celebrated Shakespearean actor, and master of the house in more ways than one—is at once a mesmerizing talent and a man of terrifying instability. One by one the children arrive, as year by year, the country draws frighteningly closer to the boiling point of secession and civil war.

I began with some skepticism. Shortly after the trajectory of this story became apparent and the author surely did her work. I found myself researching what is out there about the Booth family.

Historia
Ninety-one-year-old Gretel Fernsby has lived in the same well-to-do mansion block in London for decades. She lives a quiet, comfortable life, despite her deeply disturbing, dark past. She doesn’t talk about her escape from Nazi Germany at age 12. She doesn’t talk about the grim post-war years in France with her mother. Most of all, she doesn’t talk about her father, who was the commandant of one of the Reich’s most notorious extermination camps. All The Broken Places moves between Gretel’s girlhood in Germany to present-day London as a woman haunted by the past.

Strong Character Study
Revisado: 01-29-25
a powerful story and a build up of characters that kept my easily bored attention span. some gripping moments in the story line. i have always wondered what it might be like to have lived within the Nazi axis and how people could live with themselves. as a person with a few family members involved in crime, some not of their choosing, there are those who are innocent because of circumstances such as being a child. yet as that child grows up they unnecessarily carry guilt and shame through out theirs lives, never able to live in joy. this also reminds me in general how humans see others, their neighbors, their community as others less worthy than them. to be different is not a sin. we must hear the stories within our community's and look at what we might be doing if we were the other person. the only innocence I see in this world is a newborn. we are all guilty of something at sometime. who might we need to forgive?

Not for audio
Revisado: 12-08-24
This book is not best for audio as I found there were too many story lines, too many characters, too much back and forth with storylines and timelines ti keep me interested. I did finish it. I feel this book is better read in real book form. There's something about behind able to track a story by returning to pages read in the past as reference to understand what's happening. It could be this is a very good story but needs to be told in a different way. The history setting was interesting.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Revisado: 11-18-24
The only book I have read by Stephen King is How to Write. Otherwise, I am not a fan of horror and gore. I don't watch any films as such either. But this book kept me awake at night. I adored the writing. The story. The cadence. A fun read.

Historia
In Your Dog Is Your Mirror, dog trainer Kevin Behan proposes a radical new model for understanding canine behavior: a dog’s behavior and emotion, indeed its very cognition, are driven by our emotion. The dog doesn’t respond to its owner based on what the owner thinks, says, or does; it responds to what the owner feels. And in this way, dogs can actually put people back in touch with their own emotions.

Lost Me At Neutering
Revisado: 11-03-24
Asking for refund on this book due to this authors preference on not neutering a dog. My experience with dogs is different than his. As well, there were other parts in the book about dogs and behaviors just didn't resonate with my experience and belief. This is the authors viewed, not necessarily evidenced based. Asking for a refund in this book.

It's About the Story
Revisado: 09-15-24
About 3/4 of the way through, I thought I would give this book a rating of 3 due to soap opera like dialogue between characters. Even though the book was strong in the beginning when discussing the actual wounded players in the story. As a nurse, I like stories about medical stuff. Had I known what my role was as a reader was to pay more attention I would have focused on the characters. Pay attention because the gem in the book is at the end. Thus I brought up to 4star eating. Also mentioning Ron Kovic was a nice touch. If you have not seen the film Born On The , 4th of July, you might want to. Oliver Stone did a fantastic job with the film. May we stop the need for wars. May we not be divided. May we see our common humanity.
