Historia
Telling the remarkable tale of a man who is still remembered on the streets of New Orleans and in the hearts of professional-wrestling fans, this book aims to restore the overlooked Junkyard Dog to his proper place in the history books. In 1979, Sylvester Ritter, also known as the Junkyard Dog, managed to break one of the final color barriers in the sport by becoming the first Black wrestler named undisputed top star of his promotion, and this biography reveals all the famous feuds and business back stories that made him a wrestling legend.

Good yet misleading but who picks these narrators?
Revisado: 11-01-20
I'm guessing they pick the narrators based on their voices, and granted this narrator has a great voice, but can't they get someone who knows how to pronounce people's names? Or have someone take a few minutes before hand and tell the person how to say people's names? This has happened a few times with books I've listened to (I'm currently listening to the Dusty Rhodes book and it's happening there too) and it's annoying.
Also, this isn't really about Junkyard Dog. It's really about the history of Mid-South Wrestling. They do an epilogue about how JYD's career ended up but really it's about Bill Watts's promotion. Which is okay, I like learning about all aspects of wrestling history. But I guess they didn't think a book about Mid-South Wrestling would sell? Maybe? So I liked this book but if you are looking for a retrospective of the JYD, you will get that I guess but that's not really what the book is about.

Great for old-school rasslin fans
Revisado: 06-20-19
I really enjoy learning more about old school pro wrestling, er, rasslin and this has that! My knowledge of wrestling (for what it is) is mostly post-1984 and WWF's rock and wrestling, so hearing old NWA stories and about the territory days is fascinating to me. There were a few times where I was like, "really?" and in some good ways, some bad. Like talking about all the bad taste angles done in World Class by the Von Erichs and I didn't remember the Fritz-fake heart attack angle being mentioned at all. It was fun listening to 1983 in particular and how Vince was setting the stage for his national take over. Anyway, if you like old rassling stories, this is for you!

Some people are meant to travel the globe, to unwrap its secrets, and share them with the world. And some people have no sense of direction, are terrified of pigeons, and get motion sickness from tying their shoes. These people are meant to stay home and eat nachos. Geraldine DeRuiter is the latter. But she won't let that stop her. Hilarious, irreverent, and heartfelt, All over the Place chronicles the years Geraldine spent traveling the world after getting laid off from a job she loved.

A fascinating story(ies)!
Revisado: 06-20-19
I found this book after looking up Geraldine DeRulter on Twitter, after one of tweets went viral (the one about how Joker really should be a woman!) and I'm really happy I listened to this audiobook! Geraldine does a great job telling stories, and narrating them too! As someone who likes travelling but still has a lot more to do, I was really enjoying hearing her stories and how different they are from most travellers. The stories were more about her and her relationship with her husband, not where they were specifically. There are some gross stories about half way through which I wasn't sure I needed to hear (TMI! lol) but this is a great listen!

Great audiobook about a great year, 1999
Revisado: 06-20-19
This was a great book! George Newbern does a great job narrating it, with a few mistakes (he mispronounces Existenz which I suppose is forgivable) and it was great remembering all these classic films from 1999. I love hearing behind the scenes stories, how movies got financed, so if those kinds of stories are for you, then get this book. One quibble is that, while pointing out how Hollywood made these films yet didn't embraces them, they could have talked about the 72nd Academy Awards, pointed out who won what that year (not much from the movies they focused on), even talk about the Best Picture nominees from that year, only three of which they talked about in depth (American Beauty, The Insider, Sixth Sense) although I did like the dig at Cider House Rules. Really the only talk about the Oscars that year was how far Kevin Spacey, Harry Knowles and Harvey Weinstein have fallen since then. But that's probably just me. I love old classic films and finding out more about them, but it is nice to hear stuff about movies that I remember coming out! For movie fans, this is highly recommended!

Revisado: 06-20-19
I loved this. I usually devour anything related to Monty Python, and this was great as Idle has SO MANY stories to tell outside the Python days. The fact that he narrates it himself is tremendous. Eric Idle is a treasure, so talented and funny; this was a treat to listen to! So much fun hearing this and it's one of those rare audiobooks I'll likely listen to again. Highly recommended!

Historia
From his rapid-fire stand-up comedy riffs to his breakout role in Mork & Mindy and his Academy Award-winning performance in Good Will Hunting, Robin Williams was a singularly innovative and beloved entertainer. He often came across as a man possessed, holding forth on culture and politics while mixing in personal revelations - all with mercurial, tongue-twisting intensity as he inhabited and shed one character after another with lightning speed. But as Dave Itzkoff shows in this revelatory biography, Williams’ comic brilliance masked a deep well of conflicting emotions and self-doubt.

If you want to know all the dirt on Robin Williams
Revisado: 06-20-19
I enjoyed listening to this, but I was also keenly aware that through every chapter, the author (and the narrator) were offering up clues as to why Williams was unhappy, almost as if they were shouting after every chapter "AND THAT'S WHY HE KILLED HIMSELF!" But that could just be me. I loved Williams' movies and comedy specials, but when he died it really was like the world lost it's laughter. It was also heartbreaking to hear about his misdiagnosis, as that was new to me. So I do recommend this, but I also wish the writer hadn't been so obvious sometimes.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Even better than the movie!
Revisado: 03-27-18
Would you consider the audio edition of The Martian to be better than the print version?
I listened to this days before The Martian film came out in theatres. There were some subtl differences, like learning more about the crew that leaves him behind, relationships that are only hinted at in the movie, and details like their living quarters that the film skipped over
What did you like best about this story?
The detail! All of Andy Weir's knowledge that he puts into this story about NASA and what it would be like to live on Mars is tremendous! Although I think I heard somewhere he just got all that info from Google and Wikipedia, which is...fine I guess.
Which scene was your favorite?
SPOILERS - when he's rescued in the book, Weir talks about how "if this were a movie, the crew would be looking through the window, waving at him and they'd have a big reunion, but in reality they'd all have jobs to do..." which is then what they do in the movie! Also, in the book it keeps going, whereas in the movie they skip ahead...
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughes AND cried with this book!
Any additional comments?
Highly recommended!

So much fun to listen to I must say!
Revisado: 03-27-18
Would you consider the audio edition of I Must Say to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the print version, but I can't imagine how NOT having Martin Short narrate his own life story is a bonus!
What did you like best about this story?
He is freaking hilarious and an amazing storyteller! I couldn't stop laughing but then he started talking about a personal tragedy that I didn't know about and I was in tears, in my car, about to go in to work! It's that kind of story that can have you rolling one minute and crying the next.
What does Martin Short bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
See above
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"I Must Say" I guess.
Any additional comments?
Can't recommend this enough! Hearing all about Martin Short's life stories was tremendous!

Premiering the day after the JFK assassination, Doctor Who humbly launched one of the entertainment world's first super-brands. We begin with a look at TV programming of the day and the original pitch documents before delving into the Daleks, which almost didn't make the cut but inspired many monsters to follow. After three years, First Doctor William Hartnell left, prompting the BBC to recast their hit rather than end it, giving us the first "regeneration" and making TV history.

A great companion for fans of the Doctor!
Revisado: 03-27-18
Where does Doctor Who rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This was a great listen, as I am someone more familiar with the modern Doctors but want to know more about the history of the character too. Very easy to follow and fun to listen to!
Who was your favorite character and why?
The Doctor of course!
What about Alan Kistler’s performance did you like?
Alan Kistler's performance is very good...well done!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I was eager to "turn the page" so to speak on this, learning more and more about the older Doctors while eagerly awaiting the behind-the-scenes stories regarding the current series.
Any additional comments?
I look forward to re-listening to this, as listening to this book initially got me interested in watching classic Dr. Who on DVD, so now I want to go back and listen all over again. Like I'm in some sort of timey-whimey of my own! This book is highly recommended!
