Historia
After experiencing a terrible loss, New York City psychiatrist Meredith McCall feels painfully adrift. When she crosses paths with a man with whom she has a tragic connection, she follows him, sparking an unhealthy obsession with Gabriel Wright. How is he doing so well while her life is in shambles? But when Gabriel walks into her office as a patient, seemingly unaware of who she is, she knows it crosses all ethical and moral bounds to treat him. Yet, Meredith can’t bring herself to turn him away and becomes further entangled.

Historia
Everyone in my family has killed someone. Some of us, the high achievers, have killed more than once. I’m not trying to be dramatic, but it is the truth. Some of us are good, others are bad, and some just unfortunate. I’m Ernest Cunningham. Call me Ern or Ernie. I wish I’d killed whoever decided our family reunion should be at a ski resort, but it’s a little more complicated than that.

Convoluted and boring
Revisado: 09-05-24
Lost intetest 1/3 of the way through, finished it though. Could not keep track of the plot. None of the characters were memorable. I still don't really know what was going on.

Historia
Ten years ago he killed my son. Today I married him. Ten years ago my darling son Jesse was murdered and our perfect family was destroyed. My strong, handsome boy, so full of life, became a memory, a photo I carried with me everywhere. But today I’m finally close to finding happiness again. My ash-blonde hair has been curled into ringlets. Carefully placed white flowers frame my delicate features. The small, drab chapel has been prettied up with white satin, and there are tiny red hearts scattered on the small table where I will soon sign the register with my new husband.

Never really got good
Revisado: 03-29-24
Never pulled me in, just a lot of not-compelling stuff happening. Couldn't keep the characters straight because most of them had no distinct personality.

Frustrating narrator
Revisado: 09-15-18
The narrator drops to a whisper so low you can't understand what she's saying. I was listening in my car, and by the second chapter I'd already yelled "WHAT?!?" at the stereo three times. I returned it.

Narrator lowers his voice at the end of sentences, so either you miss the last few words of the sentence or you turn up the volume and the first half of the sentence blows out your eardrums.

First 3/4 was great, last 1/4 dragged
Revisado: 08-29-18
I was captivated by the first 3/4 of this book. I usually need tight plotting to keep my attention, but the setting and atmosphere were so vividly portrayed that I settled into this book like a lazy summer afternoon. The theme of escaping to an exotic place was exactly what I wanted. The last 1/4 was kinda boring, just formulaically tying up loose ends. I didn't feel any real suspense. Overall I recommend the book. Most of it is top-shelf writing.

Interesting blend of fraud and conspiracy theory
Revisado: 08-14-18
I was riveted to this book. It's a fascinating blend of serious financial fraud and wild conspiracy theory. Not only is the story a good one, but it's very well told. The pace is brisk, the story always moving forward. A good use of a credit.

Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

Historia
Author of The Kennedys at War and The Lion’s Pride, Edward J. Renehan, Jr. presents a fascinating biography of one of the most hated and most admired American entrepreneurs of all time. Here, he sheds light on Wall Street magnate Jay Gould and his frequently overshadowed creativity. Gould was the quintessential robber baron and the original modern businessman whose financial examples persist even today.

Enjoyed it
Revisado: 07-17-18
If the subject matter interests you, then you'll like this book. It's well-written and does justice to the story. I have no major complaints. The book slows down a bit once they're arrested and the legal proceedings begin, but I understand how that part must be told in order to tell the whole story.
The narrator did a fine job, and didn't bother me at all. That being said, a deeper, grittier voice would have been more appropriate to the subject matter.
