One of the greatest!
Revisado: 01-06-25
For me, this is more a spiritual experience than a book of words. The narrator / author is perfect and the presentation is true, with no attempt to interpret meanings, but instead to simply and masterfully present what was written.
Highly recommend listening and relistening.

Historia
The Second Book of the Tao is a gift to contemporary readers, granting us access to our own fundamental wisdom. Mitchell's meditations and risky reimagining of the original texts are brilliant and liberating, not least because they keep catching us off-guard, opening up the heavens where before we saw a roof. He makes the ancient teachings at once modern, relevant, and timeless.

OK, but not as good as 1st
Revisado: 12-31-24
To my taste, this book is inferior as compared to the first title (Tao te Ching). The issue for me is the commentaries. I feel they are not necessary, welcome, nor helpful. Just say the passage in your great narrator voice - that is enough.

Historia
Almost every religion, spiritual practice, philosophy and person grapples with fear. The most repeated phrase in the Bible is “Be not afraid.” The ancient Greeks spoke of phobos, panic and terror. It is natural to feel fear, the Stoics believed, but it cannot rule you. Courage, then, is the ability to rise above fear, to do what’s right, to do what’s needed, to do what is true. And so it rests at the heart of the works of Marcus Aurelius, Aristotle, and CS Lewis, alongside temperance, justice, and wisdom.

Better with a better Narrator
Revisado: 10-12-21
So here we have a great book about Courage, and it's a fantastic subject, but not with this narrator. With all due respect to the author, he should stick to writing. Like a thriller mystery movie is not helped by Twinkle Twinkle Little Star as an accompanying music score, this book is not served well by the narrator's nasally, uncourageous sounding voice.

Thanks to environmental pollutants, iodine deficiency has become a worldwide epidemic. Everybody knows pollutants cause cancer. What they don't know is that these pollutants cause a deficiency that can make us sick, fat, and stupid. Iodized salt - supposedly a solution to iodine deficiency - is actually a nutritional scam that provides a false sense of security. The Iodine Crisis explains how we became so deficient, then shows the time-tested solution to reversing many conditions.

Good and Practical
Revisado: 09-14-21
Good practical information from a non-Doctor. But it's ok, because she gives A Ton of antidotal examples and history, which was quite refreshing and surprising. .
It's a really great book, but as always, be careful with all self-medicating.

Just Horrible
Revisado: 08-06-21
I just completed another book where I gave 5 stars for a stellar publication, but this book is simply horrible.
I listen to a lot of books while I drive to enhance general knowledge. I judge audio books on two criteria - Narrator and Content.
This book fails on both accounts.
The narrator is painful to listen to because it seems she's reading to children. I tried numerous times thinking it may have been my moments frame of mind, but not so. Nothing personal, but she should not be presenting to adults.. Children Yes (maybe).
The content of the book is also unacceptable. It starts with a long list of questions.. Do you have trouble getting your message across? Are you at a loss for words?, Feels endless and painful.... It's really stupid.. Do you think I bought the book just by chance - without reading the title? Yes, I would like to develop better writing and communication skills, but I will not do it with this book. It's filled with garbage examples instead of insightful process oriented instruction. Writing is a process, but you'll never learn it here. It's just the happy narrator with her smiling face and ridiculous content.
Painful, Idiotic and not recommrnded, unless you are the kind of person that likes going to the dentist for Root Canal.

One of the best!
Revisado: 08-05-21
Firstly, when it comes to the quality of an audio book, the narration is most important. It needs to be clear energetic and genuine sounding. On this, Ms. Shadel hits the ball out of the park. The clarity and precision of her mastery of English language and pronunciation is enviable. I kind of fell in love with it. I wish she would make a book just about the mechanics of speaking clearly and voice, because she is a master of it.
Then comes the content.
This book is filled with excellent pointers for all kinds of speaking situations, from interviews to presentations, to meetings. All entirely, great, with many examples.
For me, this book is on my Top 10 list, and I read and listen to a lot of books.
Highly recommend for anybody wanting to succeed, because what good is a great idea, if you can't communicate! 👍👍👍

Interesting & Understandable
Revisado: 05-29-19
A truly excellent book on a subject that can be confusing - the Microbiome, and confusing mainly because it is often made so by other authors on the subject. Mr. Blazer makes the topic interesting and understandable by cutting through the typical medical (Latin name) jargon and describing matters in familiar terms and metaphors.
Highly recommend!

Historia
The Human Superorganism makes a sweeping, paradigm-shifting argument. It demolishes two fundamental beliefs that have blinkered all medical thinking until very recently: 1) humans are better off as pure organisms free of foreign microbes; and 2) the human genome is the key to future medical advances. The microorganisms that we have sought to eliminate have been there for centuries, supporting our ancestors.

Good info, a bit cryptic
Revisado: 04-25-19
It's a good listen, but there are times when I feel the author is out to impress the reader with his knowledge of bacteria / microbe names. I mean, ok so you know the names and maybe they're important for layman-me to know them too, but I'm feeling like the main story is the fact that we are Super organisms, what that means and how it all works. The names are pointless in my opinion, especially since there are really no specific recommendations and understandably that's because we are all unique.
And I personally really hate read lists in an audio book. Hate them.
In any case, regardless of these criticism, I enjoyed the book because it introduced new ideas in personal health that are nothing short of revolutionary.... Although in reality they are actually a core part of our natural evolution, disrupted by our modern life.
