Historia
Millions of Christians know Tony Campolo as a popular speaker, best-selling author, parachurch leader, pastor, and counselor to a US president. But few know his personal faith journey—how throughout his life, existential encounters and unexplored ideas compelled him to continually reexamine and reform his theology.

Tony’s memories
Revisado: 04-21-25
I’ve been a longtime follower of Ton’s work , and was so excited interested in hearing how his theological understandings changed over time. I thought the narration was not great - several times incorrect emphasis was placed on a word, changing the meaning of a sentence.

Revisado: 09-21-23
An amazing book. So we’ll done that I could not stop listening to it. Can’t remember the last time a book affected me this way. I loved or hated the characters but felt for them all and so rooted for the most damaged ones. Just awesome.

Predictable but still great storytelling
Revisado: 11-05-18
Although predictable, this story held my interest. What happens to the children is sad but not maudlin, and easy to relate to. I had a little trouble with the jumping back and forth between generations, but largely because I didn't hear it in one sitting.

Relatable

This story of an African American middle to upper class couple was very relatable. Family dynamics, longstanding friendships, and middle class angst was entertaining. I found myself rooting for each character.

It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Revisado: 11-05-18
Trevor Noah's story of growing up in South Africa was so entertaining that I didn't notice that I was also receiving an education, and that's the best kind of teacher. This is a book I will return to every few years.

Engaging
Revisado: 11-05-18
Gabrielle Union's foul language was a little off-putting to me at first, but I got used to it (I certainly didn't speak that way in Middle School!). Her perspective and stories of being a woman of color in the US, raising black young men, was well thought out and, I'm sure, accurate. She was able to relate the fact that her financial privilege does not outweigh her lack of racial privilege clearly. I hope it will be widely read by white folk!

Disappointment
Revisado: 11-05-18
I was disappointed, for the most part, in the story. Carly speaks as if she was poor as a child, but her definition of poor is clearly not the same as most of us. She was actually privileged, and seems to have little interest in those who are not. She's not a person I would like to have a drink or dinner with. I was hoping to really, really like her, but she's not very likeable! She did a fine job of narrating her story.

Great historical novel
Revisado: 07-18-16
I loved the historical facts woven into a story about a daughter and her father. Having a father who is larger than life myself, I could relate to her struggle to balance her responsibilities toward her husband and children with her devotion to Thomas Jefferson.
