Historia
As IQ plugs a mysterious USB into his laptop, he's horrified to see what flashes across the screen: his girlfriend Grace is sweaty and bedraggled—her wrists wrapped with duct tape. Grace has been kidnapped by the likes of Skip Hanson, a brutish hitman with a vendetta against Isaiah. As IQ and Dodson attempt to locate Grace based on scant evidence, (read: a Sonic burger wrapper in one grainy image) they must wend through the stark, unrelenting East California landscape in search of clues.

Awful
Revisado: 11-30-22
Dreadful. I thought I’d try Cornwall again. Worst then I remember. Plot was a mush mash. Characters were thinly drawn and the narrator was annoyingly shrill throughout. I forced myself to listen to the whole thing but I could do it 30 minute
dollops at a time.

Decent, but expensive for a novella

This was pretty good, but after book 1, i expected another book of a similar length. I’m not happy having paid $10 for a 3-hr book.

Revisado: 02-26-22
McKinty is an exceptional writer. I read each of his Sean Duffy books in order and found his last to be his best. He has committed to writing three more so wait impatiently. Character development alongside his mystery writing has to be experienced first hand. His Chain book earned him millions from Hollywood but it is a poor effort next to his Duffy books.

Revisado: 02-04-22
I found the book to be a forgery. I have no idea who wrote this book but it couldn’t have been McKintry because he is a top notch novelist. This was just awful. Nothing made sense and by the end of the book I disliked every character and didn’t care who lived or died. This is a bad script for Hollywood. I had to push myself to read it. I kept thinking it had to get better, it was McKintry after all. But no, it just got worse and worse. Ugh

As a botanist and professor of plant ecology, Robin Wall Kimmerer has spent a career learning how to ask questions of nature using the tools of science. As a Potawatomi woman, she learned from elders, family, and history that the Potawatomi, as well as a majority of other cultures indigenous to this land, consider plants and animals to be our oldest teachers.

Ugh
Revisado: 03-03-21
I'm an LA boy so read IQ as soon as it came out. Just terrific. I read the second one. It wasn't quite as good as the first but still enjoyed it lot. The third book was depressing. The plot had several major holes. I decided to ignore them because I liked IQ and his buddy, Dotson, so much. Then came the fourth book in the series. There were warning signs in the first third of the book. Still, IQ and Dotson were intriguing so I plodded on. Then the plot started winding around in circles. How characters behave is important to me and by the fourth book I knew the characters pretty well. Ide then began to twist a yarn that made little sense. Incredible violence didn't help. By the end of the book (which wasn't the end forcing the reader the wait for number 5 to see how one of the three primary subplots plays out). I don't appreciate that. If Ide had admitted that it was part 1 I could get around that but no, he blindsided the reader. Also by the end the plot was all over the place. Every minute or so I found myself eye rolling all over the place. Really disappointed.

ugh
Revisado: 02-19-21
I loved the Butcher's Boy books so gave Mr. Perry's "A Small Town" a try. It was simply awful. I have no idea how a guy could write the Butcher's Boy and then write this drivel. To begin with the plot made no sense. Twelve convicts escape from a prison and slaughter an entire town to "sow confusion"! Really? Then the FBI gave up on finding the 12 bad guys within two years. Really? The FBI would do that? Uh, no. So, instead of the twelve being put on the FBI's Top Ten Wanted List and hunted to ground a local cop finds the baddies in a couple of months and kills them all one by one. Really? Does she have any experience as a hit person? Ah, no. Then the six remaining fugitives decide to come back to the town to kill even more of its' citizens. But never fear, the local cop kills them, too. I can't get back the seven hours I listened to this. Ugh. Unless Mr. Perry writes another Butcher's Boy novel I'm off the Perry train.

Mr Perry is a genius. No character of his enters without a backstory even if the Butcher’s Boy expedites them. Narrator is excellent. Tough to do a mafioso voice then switch effortlessly to a woman’s. One left in the series. I will be very sad. Clearly the best series I have ever read. Just boffo
