Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

The Moors' control of the Mediterranean is growing, the Queen is trying to replace King Edward with his son so her lover can rule, the French are trying to take over what remains of Edward's lands in France, nobles and churchmen are being gulled out of their coins, and the Company of archers has been separately employed by the King, the Queen, the City of London, and the Templars who have become Cistercians to protect the crown prince. Not fond of narrator
Revisado: 08-30-23
The narrator spoke too fast for most of the story. When not speaking like she was racing Secretariat, she whispered so low one couldn’t make out what she was saying. Another skillfully written story ruined by the narrator.

Not too crazy about Gillies’ performances. He made Fiona seem whiney; however, Todd shows her as a strong character. Other than that, I liked the book.

It’s spring and Three Pines is reemerging after the harsh winter. But not everything buried should come alive again. Not everything lying dormant should reemerge. But something has. A young man and woman have reappeared in the Sûreté du Québec investigators’ lives after many years. The two were young children when their troubled mother was murdered, leaving them damaged, shattered. Now they’ve arrived in the village of Three Pines. But to what end?

I began my Garmache journey with this book. It was so well written I had to start at the beginning and re-listen to end my journey. Louise Penny’s writing is like an artist painting in words.

I am totally in love with Kohlburg (sp). The way he quietly tied politicians in knots, his fierce protectiveness of not only Rosa, but also his sargeant. And how he stayed cool and calm on the outside while battling roiling emotions on the inside. All the characters were fleshed out. Good writing.

Historia
Bruce Attleton dazzled London’s literary scene with his first two novels, but his early promise did not bear fruit. His wife, Sybilla, is a glittering actress, unforgiving of Bruce’s failure, and the couple lead separate lives in their house at Regent’s Park. When Bruce is called away on a sudden trip to Paris, he vanishes completely until his suitcase and passport are found in a sinister artist’s studio, the Belfry, in a crumbling house in Notting Hill, and Inspector Macdonald must uncover Bruce’s secrets. This intricate mystery from a classic writer is set in a superbly evoked London of the 1930s.

Historia
Understandably, Lord Burford had some misgivings about hosting another house party at Alderley, his beautiful country mansion. After all, the previous two could at best be described as disastrous, since a couple of their guests were bumped off during their stay on each occasion. But with family members travelling down for the funeral of an elderly relative, the Earl really had no choice but to offer them accommodation.
