Revisado: 09-16-24
The story line is a good one and it’s somewhat plausible. I really wanted to like this book. The AI voice is horrid, and I’m not talking normal, everyday horrid. It’s lots of nails on lots of chalkboards horrid.

Sounds like a YA story
Revisado: 07-31-24
The premise was a good one and this could have been a really good book. E.g. Lead female character finds out her roommate is a vampire. Other than staring at the blood bags in the fridge she blindly accepts that explanation? Really? How about disbelief? Questions? Proof? Nope, just accepts and then falls in love with said vampire. Just too many things that make me think the writer could be 13 or is writing for 13 year olds.

Don’t bother
Revisado: 07-08-24
A cute pg story that involves Christmas and animals. The problem was with the narrator. Too many pauses to breathe - like every 4th word. The sentences got chopped up and it was very annoying. It’s probably just my stubbornness that had me continue to the end.

Revisado: 09-20-23
I can’t believe i listened to the entire book. I should have just stopped after the first chapter, but noooo! I kept hoping it would get better. Spoiler, it didn’t.
The female narrator was just bad. Her voice was distracting at best and usually just plain annoying. The whole book wasn’t plausible. It was just a poorly written book with bad narration.
It had potential, but clearly it was lacking. Just don’t buy this, it’s not worth it.

Historia
Most people want to avoid thinking about death, but Caitlin Doughty - a 20-something with a degree in medieval history and a flair for the macabre - took a job at a crematory, turning morbid curiosity into her life’s work. With an original voice that combines fearless curiosity and mordant wit, Caitlin tells an unusual coming-of-age story full of bizarre encounters, gallows humor, and vivid characters (both living and very dead).

An enlightening and moving book.
Revisado: 07-15-23
Caitlyn Doughty is an excellent death advocate. Between her podcasts and her books, she educates her audience while she entertains them. Regardless of your comfort with the subject of death, i believe everyone should either read her books or listen to a podcast. Preferably you do both. This book is an excellent way to get to know Caitlyn in a comfortable way. Please read this book.

Historia
Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good. But as they say, all good things come to an end. One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed-and-breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job - deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there.

Cute story, poor narration
Revisado: 12-27-22
The narrator’s diction is off the mark in most of the book. It’s very disconcerting and I was more focused on her cadence than the actual story.

I can usually figure out the plot and who did what by the 2nd chapter. I’ve listened to 4 books of this series and have yet to see the ending prior to reading it. Well written and narrated.

The narration is so terrible that there were many times I wanted to stop listening. I’m not one to not finish a book so I continued. The story is well written, even if it is a bit predictable. It would have been so much better with better narrators.

I liked watching the tv show Shetland and decided to read the books. They are well written and hold your interest to the very end. The narrator is great! I was surprised at how close to the book the tv show was. The books can, and do, go into more detail than the tv show. This only enhances the overall experience.
