Major character development
Revisado: 05-01-24
Really instilled a desire to know what comes next.
The series does get very bloody. Also, there are depictions of nudity, it’s so far lacking the genre common fixation on becoming pornographic.
Author is very talented at humanizing characters, showing the frailty of life, and social construct’s influence perception bias.

Historia
While Tala is still burdened with an overly large debt, she needs to balance repayment with learning opportunities and surviving the arcanous creatures increasingly focused on her. Additionally, she must explore her newly acquired magical items, investigate a potentially lethal source of consumable power, and get back home with the caravan, trusting her defensive magics to keep her whole. She has found that the world is bigger than she ever imagined, and what she had thought was the peak of power is only the beginning of her journey as a Mage.

Great magic system with often obvious developments. However, there are also many more complex interactions which keep things interesting.

Fun, twisted, and DARK!
Revisado: 03-31-24
Enjoy the story arc and the many ways the MC gets tumbled through obstacles like a boot in a washing machine. The dark humor is outstanding coupled with the awesome narration.

Odd neurotic behavior ruins series **spoiler**
Revisado: 12-01-23
I enjoyed this series initially because it was mildly engaging with decent character development. However, out of nowhere Abby who is in love with Zeke; hears the voices literally tell her to ruin your existence and definitely kill you if possible. But, its ok I love you. The “not god” I’ve never shown any deference, worship, penance, etc. is now in control.
Rant, rant, rant, author had potential but is a total nitwit. Ruins his own creation and not even coherently.
This series starts off like a mildly entertaining monthly booty call then suddenly, “SURPRISE” I just found out you probably now have herpes too.

Lots of Abbey haters out there. Ignore them. Zeke’s unwillingness to admit and work toward actual martial skill is more frustrating.

Chapter 42 gives this 3 stars
Revisado: 08-07-23
The author does a good job. Good story. Good characters. Complex interactions. However, the complete disregard for readers in chapter 42 clearly means that they were not expecting this book to be on audible. We can’t just flip 3 pages of copy/paste. It’s the audio equivalent to the Blair Witch Project motions sickens.
Also the author isn’t bad but he has a somewhat frustrating diction that can be ignored, but occasionally it is frustrating.

Good listen with lots of suspense.
Revisado: 03-23-23
Many have claimed this book to be long winded and slow. Don’t believe it. It’s not a one climax story; its a novel. There is potential to be a great series. One main direction with many sub story arcs that lay in past, present, and future events.
As with Patrick Rothfuss I suspect Johnathan Renshaw may never finish the series for reasons personal or professional. I just hope for the best for the author and that if we actually get more, it’s quality that stirs the imagination.

Historia
Gabriel Delling might call himself a professional con artist, but when walking superstitions start trying to bite his face off, his charm is shockingly unhelpful. It turns out living nightmares almost never appreciate a good joke. Together with a succubus who insists on constantly saving his life, Gabe desperately tries to survive a new reality that suddenly features demons, legends, and a giant locust named Dale - all of whom pretty much hate his guts. And when an ancient horror comes hunting for a spirit locked in his head, Gabe finds himself faced with the excruciating choice between death...or becoming some kind of freaking hero.

Caught me off guard
Revisado: 10-18-22
Surprisingly gratifying. Some things are glaring idiocies by the MC for a self-proclaimed “smart-guy”, but, somehow forgivable. Not like the naïveté of and general shortsightedness/self pity of “He Who Fights with Monsters” MCs. Still less idiotic introspection and incongruent than Eden’s Gate MC monologue.
Meaning I want to slap the MC into coherence but have hope the story line will get out of its way.
