Historia
In this heartbreakingly beautiful book of disillusioned intimacy and persistent yearning, beloved and celebrated author Andre Dubus III explores the bottomless needs and stubborn weaknesses of people seeking gratification in food and sex, work and love. In these linked novellas in which characters walk out the back door of one story and into the next, love is "dirty" - tangled up with need, power, boredom, ego, fear, and fantasy.

sadly the narration is a big problem
Revisado: 10-21-13
I honestly feel bad saying that the author of the book, who is a wonderful author, does not do the reading of this justice.
His pace is very laboured and dull and since the book has such a heavy subject matter it is hard to listen to.

Historia
Two years ago, something terrible was unleashed in an Australian mining town called Broken Hill. Thousands died. Few people know what really happened. Emily Ruff is one of them. She belongs to an elite organisation of 'poets': masters of manipulation who use language to warp others to their will. She was one of their most promising recruits until she made a catastrophic mistake: she fell in love. Wil Parke knows the truth too, only he doesn't remember it.

Very Enjoyable
Revisado: 07-08-13
This book is rather gripping and based on an extremely interesting premise.
I would certainly recommend it. However, as the previous reviewer noted, the Australian accents are appalling and, as an Australian listener, distractingly so. Still, the book is worth it if you can overlook this.
One of the best and original thrillers I have listened to in a long time.

Excruciating. Do not waste your credit.
Revisado: 07-30-12
Let me preface this by saying that I have listened to and read many unashamedly rubbish rom-coms, light fiction and chick-lit and appreciated them for what they were. However, this book is utterly terrible. It is poorly written, repetitive and the characters are unbelievable. I have only managed to listen to about an hour of it. Don't be fooled by the hype. I would like my credit back.

Be prepared for this book
Revisado: 07-14-12
Undoubtedly this book is filled with violence and disturbing imagery. So if you are particularly sensitive to these things then perhaps be wary of listening to it. However, it provides a satirical account of our hyper-consumptive way of life; alienation and boredom. The protagonist is utterly deplorable - he is a psychopath after all - but seeing an extreme version of the wealthy late 80's/early 90's New York through his eyes is intriguing. In terms of the audio production the narration is excellent and I will look for other books read by Nick Landrum.

Historia
The two-time Emmy Award-winning actress has written her first book, a surprisingly raw and triumphant memoir that is outrageous, moving, sweet, tragic, and heartbreakingly honest. Guts is a true triumph - a memoir that manages to be as frank and revealing as Augusten Burroughs, yet as hilarious and witty as David Sedaris.
