I’ve been following this series for a while. I am very happy with the conclusion. I got a bit on a Neo from the matrix vibe. But quite honestly how else would a series like this end. I can’t wait to start the next series in this world.

Excellent book all the way round

I know I should expect this from Brandon Sanderson, but I’m continually amazed by how well he writes across genres. This book is awesome. It has ups downs, and twists; but never feels as though it’s trying too hard.
I really enjoyed the narration, Suzy Jackson does a great job of character differentiation and puts just the right amount of emotion into her words so that you feel what the characters feels but it doesn’t become melodramatic.
Add this one to the ‘Will Read Again’ category.

I love this series

I grew up in the mountains of Appalachia. Bubba reminds me of one of my best friends growing up. He’s big, strong, and has a heart of gold. I know it might not be for everyone but every time I hear that southern accent, I think of my friend Matt and it reminds me of all the good times we had hunting, fishing and getting into trouble.
I don’t know if it’s the best story or the most original, but I love every minute of it.

Grub for president 2020

OK. I LOVED this book. Grub is one of the best comic relief characters I've ever read. His broken speech patterns along with his sense of humor make him truly memorable. Some might think the book is slow. I found that the character development is well worth the wait. I didn't care as much for Mara. She seems a little one-dimensional. She's not a terrible character, but I come away feeling she was shoehorned into the story. I hope to see her developed more in upcoming novels. I often forget that Harrod is even around.
Aren develops a lot during the course of the novel and is a strong character. He goes from a boy to a young man over the course of the book.
This book is 100% recommended.

Excellent work, great characters!

I really enjoyed this book. I liked it a good deal more than the first book. The characters are believable because they’re flawed. It’s a great example of “regular people, extraordinary situations”. Gabe, the main character is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Also Rezkin(sp?), a supporting antagonist, is hilarious.
I’m pretty new to the modern fantasy genre, but the first of this series got me hooked and this book will keep me coming back.
Also, the plot twists (no spoilers) made sense in retrospect, but took me completely by surprise. Well Done!
The narrator also did a great job distinguishing the characters and putting emotion into the text.

Fine book/series

Literally the only thing that made this book less than perfect was the use of the singular they. I know it’s a thing now and all that but it’s really hard for me to get used to. I don’t blame the author for that. Just my own difficulty embracing change.
The characters are multifaceted and believable. The plot is complex yet realistic (within the bounds of the setting). The setting is well fleshed out and lively. Oh, and last but certainly not least, there’s the wonderful narration of Nick Podehl. He really brings the characters to life.
Overall, I’d highly recommend.

Is there supposed to be a narrative hidden in here?

This fever dream seems to be much more an amalgam of morality plays than a narrative. I need to buy the pdf to see how many times the author mentions greed, racism (though I don’t think he ever uses the word), pollution, etc. I’m not terribly sure when the ‘story’ takes place as the closest thing you get to a main character is Michael, but you only see him between hours long descriptions of gruesome (and pointless) violence or vague descriptions of what the horsemen did at some point in history. Like if you were to take out all of the anti-science, anti-humanist sentiments/vignettes, the book would be an hour and a half long.
I don’t care that the author uses modified Christian mythos, but the weird inclusion of a “council” in heaven that rule with the Christian god seems quite out of place.
It feels more like a manifesto than like a novel.
I don’t often return audiobooks, but this book’s butt is going back on the shelf.

Narration detracted from story

The narrator seemed to take strange pauses between words sometimes. it made it really hard to concentrate on the story. I didn't so much dislike the story as the narration made it really hard to enjoy it.

This title is just as good as the first in the series. I'm very pleased with the purchase. The author does an excellent job of pulling the reader/listener into the action. The characters and the plot are interesting and the world(s) is/are distinctive and well fleshed out. To the author and narrator: Great job. Looking forward to the next title.
