Historia
This transcendent story follows four college friends who move to New York City, buoyed by ambition: Willem, an aspiring actor; JB, an artist; Malcolm, an architect; and, at the center, Jude, a withdrawn, brilliant attorney haunted by an unspeakable past. Through decades of shared and separate lives, Jude’s suffering - and its impact on those who love him - raises questions about the limits of human endurance, the possibility for redemption, and the meaning of friendship.

Glorious!
Revisado: 03-21-21
Emotionally draining, but so good. The story is long, never boring, beautifully written, perfectly narrated, altogether a lovely book. I cried, I laughed, I felt anger and frustration; I knew what was to come in some parts, and I at once dreaded it and took such pleasure at the unfolding of those events. It’s a love story so sweet; it’s a tale of the most vile evils.

Historia
For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Incredible book. Incredible case. Paul Holes is so... I can’t even describe how much I respect his work on this case. Fascinating listen.

Historia
When Lane Coolman's car is bashed from behind on the road to the Florida Keys, what appears to be an ordinary accident is anything but (this is Hiaasen!). Behind the wheel of the other car is Merry Mansfield - the eponymous Razor Girl - and the crash scam is only the beginning of events that spiral crazily out of control while unleashing some of the wildest characters Hiaasen has ever set loose.

This is exactly what you would expect from a Hiaasen! Raunchy, funny, quirky. Never could there be a more perfect narrator than John Rubinstein. He’s got perfect timing, male and female voices alike. Especially Merry’s...god, she’s kooky and adorable. I have laughed so much. Pure enjoyment.

Dark
Revisado: 04-05-20
I chose this podcast because I didn’t know anything about the dark web, or even if it existed. I do believe now that it does. As with most things, there is good and bad-very bad-uses for it. I enjoyed the episodic format, 10 total, each lasting about 25 minutes. I thought the info was well presented. I know now as much as I want to know about the dark web.

Historia
Psychologist Margot Scott has a picture-perfect life: a nice house in the suburbs, a husband, two children and a successful career. On a warm spring morning Margot approaches one of her clients on a busy train platform. He is looking down at his phone, with his duffel bag in hand as the train approaches. That’s when she slams into his back and he falls in front of the train. Margot’s clients all lie to her, but one lie cost her family and freedom.

Surprise ending
Revisado: 04-01-20
The narrator is easy to listen to, does a great job with Australian and Scottish accents. The story itself...hmmm. It’s a classic whodunit, but you know whodunit from the beginning. Of course, the author tries to throw you off, and the details, once they come to light, are believable. My biggest problem with the book is I just did not like the main character: bitchy and over-dramatic.

Historia
Less than 250,000 people live in the Northern Territory, an area more than twice the size of Texas. If you want to escape from civilisation, you don’t have to go far. But you can’t outrun the heat. Every year during October and November the sweltering climate can drive people wild; they call it ‘Suicide Season’, ‘Mango Madness’ or, more plainly, ‘The Build-up’. It’s during this blistering heat that Jim O’Connell’s body is found in a creek bed, mummified and with his genitals removed.

Loved it!
Revisado: 03-16-20
I love true crime stories...and Australian accents. This was incredibly told and seemed thoroughly investigated. The author manages to get with every witness, except one, who probably holds the key to the entire story. All persons of interest, again with the exception of one, agree to be interviewed. But that ONE, I suspect, has lots to hide.
A warning: it’s a cliffhanger.

So Dave decides to figure out how Lucy manages to stay so happy, to see if he can make his own life happier by doing the things she does (except for drinking from the toilet). He reconnects with old friends and tries to make new ones - turns out to be a struggle, because Lucy likes people a lot more than he does.

Laughed out loud!!
Revisado: 04-27-19
I love Barry’s dry humor. I listened over a week in my vehicle, and laughed out loud many times. I’ve already listened to some parts for a 2nd time, and still laughed out loud.
