book one was good. book 2 took a nosedive and book 3 is a disappointing pile of garbage. many references are poorly researched and the story is written like a remake of the Goonies.

less interesting than a ceiling fan owners manual
Revisado: 12-28-16
What a piece of garbage. I'm 12 hours into this pile and I can't take it anymore. Imagine the goonies grown up post apocalypse... yeah it's that bad. It seems all the survivors have halos over their heads as they skip and frolic around art museums stealing paintings... because that's what's important. whatever. It's poorly researched and very boring. don't waste your credit.

Historia
The frontiersmen were a remarkable breed of men. They were often rough and illiterate, sometimes brutal and vicious, often seeking an escape in the wilderness of mid-America from crimes committed back east. In the beautiful but deadly country which would one day come to be known as West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, more often than not they left their bones to bleach beside forest paths or on the banks of the Ohio River.

The true story (on which the film Jeremiah Johnson was partially based) of John Johnson, who in 1847 found his wife and her unborn child had been killed by Crow braves. Out of this tragedy came one of the most gripping feuds - one man against a whole tribe - in American history.

a great read
Revisado: 11-16-16
dont listen to the other reviewers who complained about the accents of the narrator being laid on thick, or about the pace of reading being slow, or that the characters were illiterate. this is a great read and of great historical relevance. I think the narrator did great with the accents and country people speak slow even today so pay those tenderfoot reviewers no mind.

Wonderful story but the narrator is horrible.
Revisado: 12-31-13
Would you listen to Judas Unchained again? Why?
I'll listen to it again, because the story is so good. The narrator should never read another audio book ever again though.
What didn’t you like about John Lee’s performance?
John Lee is an awful narrator. One of the worst I have EVER heard. The volume levels are all over the place - the audio is either too low to hear or in some parts it blows your ear drums. His voice is VERY boring and lacks emotion. The production quality of the recording is very bad also. At one point there was so much background noise I thought the narrator was doing dishes or something. John Lee sucks.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Dune meets Firefly
Any additional comments?
Please please please never let John Lee narrate anything...... EVER. He took such a fantastic book and made it mediocre. Shame on you John Lee. You read this book like its an obituary.

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Verbal Diarrhea
Revisado: 06-10-11
I read this book about 15 years ago in high school, and did not enjoy it. I thought I'd give it another try now, to see if I'd view it in a different and wiser perspective. Given the rapidly expanding government of today along with the weak economic situation, I thought I would be able to draw some parallels from this book in relation to the modern world.
Having finished it, I feel thoroughly disappointed. While I grasp the ideas the author attempts to convey to the reader, I feel it is done in the poorest context ever. The story is so utterly mundane and boring that I found my mind drifting from the story to more interesting things - like my fingernails and shoe laces. The characters are so disconnected and the relationship between them and the reader so weak, that even at the end of the book I could not get myself to care about Winston (main character) enough to give a crap about whether he lived or died. The ideas and their implications in the book are deep but are presented so poorly that I would compare it to the reading of a dictionary, or a ceiling fan warranty manual, only less interesting. It did not take long for me to remember why I hated reading this in school.
For the life of me I cannot understand why this book is so highly regarded in the world of literature. Yes, it has ideas that could cause one to have complex thoughts on many levels, but I found that the actual reading of this book was so awfully boring that it totally negated anything positive that could be derived from this novel. The main character is subjected to a great deal of torture at the end of the book... and so is the reader - as I found that the only thing more painful than the torture was reading about it. George Orwell is no wordsmith and his style of writing stinks and flows like verbal diarrhea. It even leaves a bad aftertaste, as diarrhea should, preventing one from revisiting the ideas in the book due to the runny, turd-like substance that Orwell considers to be the storyline

Dear Mr. Robbins, please do the world a favor and never write another book.
This is the worst book I have ever read, and I am not hard to please. Ren and Stimpy seems profound compared to this book. I could not take anything seriously in this work of garbage. Crap story, disconnected characters and an abrupt ending - save your credits folks.
