Best-selling author Nevada Barr delights contemporary mystery fans with novels like Deep South and Blood Lure. In Bittersweet, she departs the mystery genre for a touching story of hardship, perseverance, and love in the old West.

Incredible bravery of two women in the 1800's
Revisado: 09-27-24
This book made me feel greatful for the present time; whereas women have more power and rights. (I'm not going to say equal rights because it is still a world where men still get paid more than women, make it up the promotion ladder of success etc.) Women are leaders of Corporations. Women are noted for their intelligence and discoveries. We as women have come a long way to establish our worth today.
In the 1800's a woman was expected to marry and bare sons. A woman had no rights, and could not own property. Nevada tells of story of two women who figured out how to get around the system of the times and share their love. I didn't much care for the ending. Even so, Sarah at this point in the book though it was the end is empowered to do what ever she wants and does not need a man to do so. I would like to know what Sarah did, how she lived, did she marry, have more children etc. I'm going to guess she definitely most likely ran a Cattle Ranch. I bet she taught all her crew to read. I would compare her to Barbara Stanwyck in the Big Valley. I wouldn't be surprised she married Kolby Burns her ranch hand. It makes since she would continue to raise cattle and build a legacy for her son Matthew. This book was written in 1984 which is the first year she published a book. Looks like no sequel.

Historia
The lone wolf Snow has her hands full. She and the surviving Alphas of the Chicago werewolf packs have been on the run since barely escaping an ambush with their lives. Whoever attacked them not only murdered Alphas and Betas, but they've managed to kidnap most of the werewolf packs in the area. Riding herd on four Alphas, and trying to keep them from turning on each other, is not Snow's idea of fun.

Outstanding Edge of seat suspense and wonder.
Revisado: 09-08-24
This series is outstanding. Lise has a bit of a different take on some of the wolven shape shifting process than I have heard in other stories. She has certainly developed the relationships of the characters and their uniqueness in this series much differently than other shape shifitng stories. Totally unique and wonderful. Lise has brought to the forefront a mild submissmisive wolf Snow to heroic expressions of love and commitment to her pack and to Cassidy. In addition she has created a very wise and experienced character and has capitalized her her uniqueness in Snow. I love the respect Cassidy gives to Snow in terms of Snow's asexualtiy. I would never have thought of a wolf as an ACE. The beautiful thing in this story is the love and commitment that Snow and Cassidy share without the sex. Cassidy is also a very unlikely leader being a newby wolven as it were. She brings all the packs together to rescue their packs. There are twists in the story, she doesn't reveal who is behind all the experimentation on their species. She has left enough unsaid that I can't wait for the next book. Malice and Rory haven't made it back from fairly land. Cassidy and Snow are off to find them.

Extraodinary Portrayal of Recovery
Revisado: 06-23-24
Harper Bliss is one of my favorite authors, and Abbey Craden my favorite narrator. Abbey's narration of this story exemplifies her acting talents to bring this story to life, to tell it in a way that the listener truly idenitfy's with Ella's feelings. Abbey protrayed Ella's raw emtions and Kay's compassion with such intense emotion. As the listener, I was right there experiencing that emotion and routing for Ella. Tears coming to my eyes as well. This is a must read or listen story that I believe could be helpful for people who suffer severe depression, feel hopeless, and question their lives as it is.
This isn't a substitute by any means to seek professional help. When a person is suffering sometimes listening or reading a story like this can be uplifting knowing you are not the only one, knowing there is someone who got through it. The journey from the bottom is not easy.
I applaud Harper's ability to tell a story like this. I beliieve it can have a profound effect on those who may suffer depression and hopelessness, knowing , in this story there is hope for a better tomorrow.

Falling in love with a girl for the first time
Revisado: 06-06-24
I love stories about first time loves. In these stories at least one character has to do some serious self reflection about themselves, who they believe themselves to be and what they want. They have to face their fears and doubts. In this world of judgement it is still a big step to come to a self realization of attraction to the same sex. Taking that leap of faith to love can be dawnting. Jamey protrayed the MC Addison who is a high powered type A personality on her path to success in banking. Her whole life has been focused on her career, until she meets the friendliness, most easy going person to be with Lissa. Friendship becomes more over time. The author did a very good job of taking this couple through steps of self discovery and finally claiming true love and happiness.
I would consider the narration more of read than acting. It was OK, Voice differences not profound. I could always tell who was talking and that makes it for easy listening. I could hear the narrator take breaths which was a distraction especially durning a love scene.

Finding True Love
Revisado: 06-02-24
I wish the author would have had the story professionally narrated as it would really have come to life. I am mostly an audible listener vs reader.
I enjoyed that the settings were not traditional and moved across continents. There could have been a bit more about the Ukrainian Culture. The fact that it didn't all occure in the UK,London, Australia or the US was great.
This was a very good story about coming to terms with one's true desires for a relationship and struggle with the norm.
Ultimately stepping out of your comfort zone, embracing your heart's desire, taking a risk on love.

Lots of push and pull
Revisado: 06-02-24
I really enjoyed this story. I wish it was narrated by a professional actor, it would really come to life.
Lot's of push and pull between the two MC to figure out what they really wanted.
I could identify with this story as if it could be a true story. Realistic, down to earth, believable.

Persistance and Hard work always Wins!!
Revisado: 05-25-24
I enjoyed the story very much. I often got lost knowing who was talking, I couldn't much tell the difference between the 2 main characters. I would have to listen closely then to the context, and often go lost. I enjoyed learning about the sport of mounted archery. The story was well developed, I kept routing for Kye the main character to succeed in her endeavers to learn the sport.
The mentor Fletcher was definitely hard ass, bringing to mind the student had to show their worth and devotion. An age old saga. How much do you want it? What are you willing to give up to have it? To learn to be the best. Rachel Spangler did a great job of bringing the angst and trials to life of these two women who defenitely were not going to make it in a relationship. I love that the focus even so was the success of the Kye to succeed.

True First Love Story
Revisado: 05-25-24
T J Oshea wrote such a true love story of opposites that was touching, sensitive, and real. She brings to light the challenges of emerging sexuality for teenagers. The very real struggles with bigotry, and prejudice. How could two people come together with so many challenges and differences between them? I was very pleased that TJ handled the challenges all the way to the end of the book and came full cirlce. This story truly exemplifies that there is no greater than love. Amy Deuchler did a great job of bringing to life this story.

Revisado: 02-25-24
I kept rooting for the MC who definitely had more depth to her than she presented. This is a story about a person despite their own personal challenges and social awkwardness rises to the greater good to provide for her much younger sister and gain control of the family business. The only solution to maintain her status is get married. She makes an offer to Taylor Sutton to marry her until she can secure her postion in her family's company as CEO. The story was well developed and believable.
The author did a very good job developing the Character of Mack.

Unlikely Pair
Revisado: 02-17-24
I very much enjoyed the development of this love story.
An author of lesbian romance novels is paired with a large animal Veterinarian who has never read one. What captured me in this story was the attraction these two women felt for one another. Even though it was unlikely they would get together. The veterinarian Guard,
Down to earth stable study very much knowing who and what she's about. The author has no roots and and her relationships have been very superficial, actually non existent just passes in the night. Radclyffe did a great job of building connections between these two
women, it was a slow build not exactly smooth, valuing what matters most in a relationship.
