Historia
Scott Bradley James arrives in Annapolis, Maryland, as a plebe in the class of 1941 without a terribly good idea why he wants to be a naval officer, other than that his father was a sailor, and he wants to see the world, whatever that means. Scott and his roommate become fast friends, and, after surviving scrapes of their own making, the two fetch up at Pearl Harbor. War is brewing, and their class has graduated early. They have been sent to battle stations.

It's as if John Grisham wrote a historical novel!
Revisado: 11-24-24
If John Grisham ever wrote a historical novel, this is how good it would turn out! The Restless Wave is a another masterpiece from Admiral James Stavridis. It weaves together key aspects of WWII through the eyes of a U.S. Navy officer protagonist who is working his way through life and his career. The author delivers a unique and engaging way of looking at WWII, and it's great that the book also brings a human side to this history as well. Give it a read or listen - you can't go wrong!

Incredibly phenomenal!
Revisado: 06-06-23
Incredibly phenomenal memoir about life, loss, grief, scars, and healing. I can't imagine anyone not absolutely loving this fabulous book. Teresa Strasser has an amazing ability to tell a human, poignant, and heartfelt story in a way that perfectly captures multiple, complex emotions including sadness, anger, and happiness. Miraculously she tackles difficult subjects with the seriousness they deserve, but also at times with subtle and witty humor in prose that only a talented wordsmith such as Teresa can deliver. Teresa shows readers how she addressed and overcame adversity during a little league year of big grief but also at other stages in life. She persevered though challenges that many people would have struggled to move past. And she gives readers a roadmap to handle challenges such as grief, stress, trauma, betrayal, and adversity in their own lives. This memoir is about grief, but it's also about redemption. You can't go wrong with this deep, heartfelt, and wonderfully written book, so go out and get a copy right now!

Historia
From the time of the Greeks and the Persians clashing in the Mediterranean, sea power has determined world power. To an extent that is often underappreciated, it still does. No one understands this better than Admiral Jim Stavridis. In Sea Power, Admiral Stavridis takes us with him on a tour of the world's oceans from the admiral's chair, showing us how the geography of the oceans has shaped the destinies of nations and how naval power has in a real sense made the world we live in today and will shape the world we live in tomorrow.

The far reaching knowledge of Admiral Stavridis is as vast as the oceans themselves. And because of the Admiral's extensive knowledge, the book is a look sea power in a way that only James Stavridis can provide. I highly recommend this phenomenal work!

Historia
Admiral Stavridis, a leader in military, international affairs, and national security circles, shares his love of the sea and some of the sources of that affection. The Sailor's Bookshelf offers synopses of fifty books that illustrate the history, importance, lore, and lifestyle of the oceans and of those who "go down to the sea in ships." Divided into four main categories, Admiral Stavridis's choices will appeal to "old salts" and to those who have never known the sights of the ever-changing seascape, nor breathed the tonic of an ocean breeze.

Historia
In Sailing True North, Admiral Stavridis offers lessons of leadership and character from the lives and careers of history's most significant naval commanders. He also brings a lifetime of reflection to bear on the subjects of his study—naval history, the vocation of the admiral, and global geopolitics. Above all, this is a book that will help you navigate your own life's voyage: the voyage of leadership of course, but more important, the voyage of character. Sailing True North helps us find the right course to chart.

Revisado: 05-21-23
Another wonderful piece of work from Admiral James Stavridis. In this book Admiral Stavridis provides some incredible lessons for today's leaders across business and government. With his vast and deep knowledge of global affairs, I can't understand why Admiral Stavridis is not currently the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of the Navy, the Vice President, or even the President. But as The Admiral continues his life's journey Sailing True North, I'm sure he will get there soon enough!

The Leader's Bookshelf synthesizes their responses to identify the top 50 books that can help virtually anyone become a better leader.

Absolutely Phenomenal!
Revisado: 05-21-23
Having now read 8 books by Admiral James Stavridis, I'm surprised every time that each one is better than the last. In The Leader's Bookshelf, Admiral Stavridis provides not only great summaries of works on leadership, but he also provides valuable expert commentary from someone who has excelled in leadership at every stage of his career. Throughout the book, The Admiral emphasizes little things that leaders can do to make themselves successful. My only recommendation is that this wonderful leadership book should include summaries of other James Stavridis books, such as Sailing True North and To Risk It All! You can't go wrong with any of his works!

Scary good! A warning that the world needs.
Revisado: 05-21-23
This book is an amazing look at how common events can easily escalate into a major catastrophe. Admiral Stavridis uses his deep global knowledge of the world's players to identify how miscalculations could have devastating effects. Because of its relevance to current events, the book should be required reading at war colleges and in government so that the next world war can be avoided. It's a great book that I highly recommend!
