Historia
As a single, unemployed, and unapologetic twenty-five-year-old mess, I came to the Hamptons this summer for one reason—to focus on myself and work out my quarter-life crisis. I didn't come here planning to sneak into a private party and meet a handsome stranger. I definitely didn't come here expecting that stranger to be Preston Rhodes—billionaire and superstar quarterback for the Manhattan Mambas. And that's not even the crazy part. He asked me to be his pretend girlfriend for a week while his family was in town.

Trust doesn’t come easily when you’ve been running for as long as I have, which is why moving in with a man I barely know is such a bad idea. Shepard Colson is all golden-boy charm and devastating good looks. But I know what it’s like to be taken in by easy smiles and the promise of forever—I have the scars to prove it.

Write, rinse, repeat. Narrators were great!
Revisado: 09-05-24
I like this author, but I won't be spending my Audible credits on her future books because they are all beginning to sound the same. It's an insult to readers to write basically the same narrative but change the names. Mallon and Hamilton, as always, were great. However, I do wish narrators would be more selective in the books they narrate. I choose books to listen to, in part, based on who is narrating the book. I assume with the better narrators that I can trust the book will be enjoyable, different from the previous book in the series. Halfway through this book, I actually said to myself, how do the narrators stay focused enough to remember which book they are narrating and who the main characters are? The main characters in this series are becoming interchangeable. Disappointing.

Stefan Dalca is infuriatingly handsome. And annoyingly persistent. We’re supposed to hate each other. But apparently he didn’t get the memo, because he’s been asking me out for years. And I always say no. Until today. Today he has something that I desperately need. Today he’s a savior, and I’m his prize. Our time together starts out as a simple transaction. Three dates. No touching. No telling anyone. And definitely no falling in love.

WOW!
Revisado: 07-26-24
First, I rarely give reviews. And if I do, they aren't usually good ones. I'm very particular in how I spend my Audible credits. I think this might be the first book that I actually put in the review that it was worth the credit!
I have read a total of seven of Elsie Silver's books. This is by far my favorite. The writing was creative, mature, and smart. Great foreshadowing but did not give too much away. I actually gasped at one point because I totally didn't see it coming. The narration was excellent. I loved all of Zachary Webber's voices. This is the first time I have listened to Soneela Nankani narrate and she was superb. I will definitely be looking for more books that she has narrated.

Maddox Lovelace. The captivating football player I met in college. The one I only knew for a week. A week that was...life-changing. Until my phone rang, and I had no choice but to go home. I left Maddox a letter, putting my feelings on paper, giving him my number, hoping he'd call. But he didn't call. He never called. He got drafted into the professional league and lived like a king while I stayed home and struggled to stay afloat.

Mixed review...
Revisado: 07-17-24
Great performances. First book I've read by this author. I'll probably try another. Some of the dialogue was cheesy, "...spread my seed..." 🙄 The storyline was good and creative. My only other criticism would be to ask the author to be careful when writing sex scenes. Several scenes included the MFC saying, "it's too much," or, "you're too big" and the MMC declaring, "you can take it." Then he proceeded to do what he wanted to do. These scenes were icky, indicating it's okay for the male to forge ahead regardless of whether his partner is ready. I think the author has an obligation to make clear to the reader, especially younger readers, that the power in any sex scene should be equitable. In this particular story I think the MFC could handle herself. The author did a fair job of developing her character as such. However, my concern is that a younger less experienced reader might conclude the woman has less of a voice during sex.

Kennedy is doing all she can to escape, to prove that she's not the monster her father was. A simple life of peace and service is all she needs. Cain has buried his demons under layers of control and success. The only thing he needs is his company and his solitude. Certainly not a woman with captivating green eyes filled with ghosts so similar to his own. He's a reminder of the life she's left behind. And she's a threat to his tightly guarded control. As sparks fly between them, they discover that what they might need most is each other....

Historia
Sage Byrd has lived in the coastal town of Spunes, Oregon (not to be confused with Forks, Washington) her entire life. She's learned to love her small world, with the misfit animals on her hobby farm, and her friendships with the town’s inhabitants. But when her 5-year relationship ends and her ex, town-golden-boy Ian, suddenly gets engaged, Sage needs a win—something that will convince everyone to stop pitying her all the time, and to put Ian in his place. The Festival of Spunes, the town’s annual summer competition, would be the perfect opportunity. She just needs a partner.

Very good character development with mature adults working through issues together. This was my first novel by this author, which I very much enjoyed. I will definitely check out her other books. Narrators are two of my favorites and they both did a great job.

That was the agreement between me and Maddox Taylor, the NFL’s most notorious playboy and mega-talented quarterback who happened to be out in California for one night—one night in which I broke all of my rules and gave in to the undeniable attraction I felt for the man. He wooed me with dirty jokes, 80s musical references, an obsession with Steve Harvey, and a very specific piercing. How the hell was I supposed to fight that?

Who talks like this in front of a 6-year-old?!
Revisado: 05-06-24
So disgusted, I didn't even make it past the first paragraph. MFC curses in front of a precious 6-year-old boy. Upon arriving to a party, she says, "...party is here bit__es!" while holding up two bottles of champagne. The young child says, "Aunt......you said a bad word." To which the cynical, immature adult replies, "You're right....but one day you'll understand...because life f___ing sucks." And she doesn't say "effing". She says the entire word. Then she proceeds to make references about sex, without saying the child has left the room. So I assume he is still listening. I was so excited to find a new (to me) author. I can put up with a lot of things in today's romance novels (I am very far from being a prude), but I have to draw the line when children are being treated in this manner. Don't our children already grow up too fast in our harsh world? :-( I'm disappointed that Erin Mallon and Jacob Morgan (two of my favorite narrators) agreed to narrate this book. At the very least, the book should include in the summary that adults blatantly converse with no filter in front of very young children.

Callum Derringer was hired by the Pittsburgh Titans to help rebuild the organization after a devastating plane crash left its future unknown. Now that he’s got the team back on track, it’s time to put some effort into his own life. When I accepted the job of general manager with the Titans, it was just the opportunity I needed to prove myself to the sports world. Unfortunately, my career isn’t the only area in which I’ve previously made mistakes and the past is about to come back in a big way.

Narration was painful
Revisado: 03-27-24
IMO this book would have been better if Jason Clarke had narrated the entire book. If he had, I would have rated narration with 5 stars. Jason Clarke earned 5 stars. Audible’s rating system should allow separate rating for each narrator.

I knew fixing up my life with a fresh start on the hobby ranch I inherited in Hell’s Bells, Wyoming, would come with challenges. Things like snow. Wildlife. Local gossip about why my daughter and I are here. But the biggest challenge? My surly new tenant. He’s like a bear. Fascinating from a distance, but don’t get too close, or he’ll bite. His personality should be a good thing. I have no need of a new man in my life. But he’s not only my tenant; he’s also my daughter’s math teacher and soccer coach.

What’s the worst thing you could do when you’re stranded in the woods with your rival? Sleep with him. That’s what. Not only is Rowan Whitlock my sister’s ex, but we’re both vying for the contract that would save my family farm. So why did it have to be Rowan who came to the rescue after I fell on a remote hiking trail? When the weather turned unexpectedly, we were forced to find shelter and ride out the storm. Only that wasn’t the only thing I ended up riding.

Really enjoyed book 3
Revisado: 03-03-24
I really enjoyed book 3. (I also liked book 1, but skipped book 2 because I don’t care for the female narrator in book 2. Which is a shame because I always enjoy Sebastian York. The female narrator in book 2 is always a definite no for me.) Jason Clarke is in my top 3 male narrators, equally love Andi Arndt. They did not disappoint! I laughed a lot and teared up. I enjoyed hearing about characters from other series. LOVED interaction between all characters and 10-year-old Olivia who communicates only through sign language.
