Historia
Working at a dead-end retail job in the middle of nowhere can be hard. The long hours. The helpless customers. The enormous eldritch horror living deep below the building. As the only full-time employee at the 24 hour gas station at the edge of town, Jack has pretty much seen it all. But when he decides to start an online journal documenting the bizarre day-to-day occurrences, he unwittingly attracts the attention of much more than just a few conspiracy theorists.

Fantastic!
Revisado: 10-09-19
This novel was great. For me most audio books are a convenience and are stories I would much rather curl up in a chair and read. This book was the exception. The story is enhanced by Mr. Creepy Pastas narration. His timing is perfect and his deadpan humor accentuates an already great tale.

Historia
The day Japan bombs Pearl Harbor, four 13-year-olds converge at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where an eccentric curator is seeking four uncommonly brave souls to track down the hidden pages of the Kelmsbury Manuscript, an ancient book of Arthurian legends that lies scattered within the museum's collection and that holds the key to preventing a second attack on American soil.

An Excellent Sequel in the Wizard For Hire Series
Revisado: 04-15-19
One of my very favorite books of 2018 was the first Wizard for Hire. I've been anxiously awaiting this sequel and it did not disappoint!
Apprentice for Hire book 2 in the Wizard for Hire series picks up 4 months after the ending of book 1. Our main protagonist Ozzy is found in much better straits than the beginning of book 1. He is now living with Siggy and her mum Patty and is able to go to school and live a somewhat normal teenage life.
But things are anything but normal for Ozzy and Siggy. They have only heard from Rin the Wizard (Siggy's dad) once since the battle on the Mountain 4 months ago. It was a quick phone call to tell Ozzy something is coming. So when a courier shows up with a package containing only a flash drive with tickets to Ozzy's former home in NYC and instructions to come to the Resort In New York they are sure it's a secret message from the Wizard himself. Siggy and Clark join Ozzy and an adventure like only Obert Skye can write begins to unfold.
Suspense builds and questions continue to pile up in Apprentice for Hire. But will the biggest question of all be answered? Is Rin really a Quarfelt qualified Wizard or just a maniac trying to help out a teenager in need?
Find out as one of the greatest wizards of words spins the next great tale in the Wizard for Hire series!

exceptional book
Revisado: 04-10-19
Discalimer: I am not extremely familiar with either either H.P. Lovecraft or this particular author. I just happen to like novels that are labeled "lovecraftian"
This novel is so much more than the description gives. It is more like many shorter stories with recurring characters and themes. I enjoyed this as it felt like I was listening to an old radio serial. The stories are set in the 1950's and center around a family and their close friends. In the book one part of the main family owns a travel agency which also publishes the famous Green Book (a book for safe travel written for and by "negroes" of the time) This gives the travels and tales a realistic feel.
There are many horrors in this novel from Lovecraft like creatures to Alchemist and wizards. But, as always the real true brutal monsters are the humans.
I really enjoyed this book, although at first I was concerned about a white man speaking for people of color he really did a great job. I would recommend it to people as long as you don't mind the language. The language (mostly) serves a purpose but I know not everyone wants to hear it. I suggest reading this now as I heard Jordan Peele (Get Out 2017) is looking to turn it into a series.

Historia
It’s the summer of 1969, and the shock of conflict reverberates through the youth of America, both at home and abroad. As a student at a quiet college campus in the heartland of Indiana, Terry Ives couldn’t be farther from the front lines of Vietnam or the incendiary protests in Washington. But the world is changing, and Terry isn’t content to watch from the sidelines. When word gets around about an important government experiment in the small town of Hawkins, she signs on as a test subject for the project, code named MKULTRA.

Pleasantly Surprised
Revisado: 03-31-19
Could a book based off a Netflix Original series really be any good? I assumed it would be a long stretch at trying to recreate the retro vibe the Duffer brothers have reached with Stranger Things.
I was wrong.
Don't worry I will keep the review simple and with out spoilers.
This stand alone prequel novel begins in 1969 and follows the M.K. Ultra experiments of the fictional Hawkins lab in Indiana long before the events of Stranger Things.
we do meet a younger Doctor Brenner, as well as a very young Kali. There is also a brief glimpse at a reporter we may or may not know from the series as well as a description of possible monsters in the lab that definitely sound like the demi gorgan. This and a few other Easter eggs dabbled throughout make the novel relatable and a lot of fun for Stranger Things fans but wont confuse or mislead those Using Suspicious Minds as a primer before completing the series.
Our main character Terri Ives and her friends Alice, Gloria, and Ken take us inside the experiments of Hawkins lab while also spinning a great story of love and friendship that is beautifully written without irony or cliche.
The book takes place during an important time in American history and we see our characters experience or witness events like Woodstock, the moonlanding, the Manson family, and the Vietnam War draft in addition to their drama within the lab. The book does a great job at keeping the time period real without actually telling us how different the 60's and 70's were from our present day. The characters mention things in passing kids today wont get but may be curious enough to ponder or even look up on their own. a good example is our main character discussing wearing nylons panty hose under her pants and it being far more comfortable than the stockings and girdle she wore previously but still warm and binding. Another example is a scene where some minor characters are seen wearing plastic Halloween masks. This may fly over a younger persons head and seem silly but as someone who is a child of the 70/80 I could smell the nostalgia and cheap plastic Halloween masks!
Overall I liked this book and have already preordered my copy of the next one staring Elle and Hopper. My one critique is I wish the author had fleshed out our characters a little more beyond their involvement in MK Ultra and with Terri. I think I would have cared more about the ending if I cared more about the other main characters.

Great First Book in Series
Revisado: 03-21-19
This book was wonderfully written and was performed very well. I have never read anything Charlie Fletcher but will definitely be finishing this series. The book had a similar feel and tone as Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere but with a premise completely original from that story.
This book would hold the attention and enchant those maybe 10+ but be aware the author does use the word "bastard" at least twice.

Tana French never disappoints
Revisado: 03-06-19
I have read or listened to a few of Tana French's books and have enjoyed them all. I picked this one up when I realized it was part of the Murder Squad series.
This book is excellent. the group of friends our protagonist infiltrates is funny, witty, haunting, and desperate. With tinges of Donna Tart's A Secret History French tells a tale complex and completely unique in it's own right.
This book will draw you in and put a spell on you. Even with all we discover throughout her investigation I was mesmerized. Like Cassie I wanted to be their friend, and never leave them. To stay in White Thorn house forever.
When the book was over there was no closure, even with the story wrapped neatly and handed to me. I grieved for friends I never had and places I've never been.
I will continue to read the stand alone Murder Squad series but I can't imagine a tale in the series better than this. But who could say? Tana French seems to have loads of talent and lots of tricks up her sleeve.
