Historia
In a memoir hailed for its searing candor and wit, Alice Sebold ( The Lovely Bones) reveals how her life was utterly transformed when, as an 18-year-old college freshman, she was brutally raped and beaten in a park near campus. What propels this chronicle of her recovery is Sebold's indomitable spirit - as she struggles for understanding; as her dazed family and friends sometimes bungle their efforts to provide comfort and support; and as, ultimately, she triumphs, managing through grit and coincidence to help secure her attacker's arrest and conviction.

Very good book - voice took some getting used to
Revisado: 10-15-05
This was a very interesting and intense book. Inspirational. It was exceptional how she was able to deal with everything. She does not sugar coat anything and admits her flaws and problems along the way. The only thing that kept me from giving this book 5 stars was the author's reading. While I do believe a biography or memoir is better when read by the author this one took some getting used to. Her monotonous tone was irritating in the beginning but it grows on you after a while and you get used to it. I would recommend this book, especially if you have read The Lovely Bones which I do believe is one of my favorite books.

Historia
With the sweep and vitality of a great novel, Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David McCullough presents the enthralling story of John Adams. This is history on a grand scale - an audiobook about politics, war, and social issues, but also about human nature, love, religious faith, virtue, ambition, friendship and betrayal, and the far-reaching consequences of noble ideas. Read by History Channel host Edward Herrmann!

Very Interesting
Revisado: 12-17-03
I really enjoyed this book. I listened only to the abridged version just in case, but found myself wishing there was more. I may go back for the unabridged version at another time.
I find myself seeing John Adams in a whole new light now. Since the only real knowledge I had of him was from history books in high school, I thought of him as a stuffy old blow hard. I found that he was a real human being. He had a great love of both his country and his family. The book portrayed him as a caring husband and father, which I now would like to believe he was. His wife, Abigail, was a smart woman with her own opinions and points of view. She was knowledgable in many areas and was treated as an equal by Adams.
I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to know more about our history. I would also say, forget about those stuffy history books. This surely isn't one of them. I found it interesting and entertaining. And although this was the first biography I've ever read (or listened to) I don't think it will be the last.

It was okay
Revisado: 11-18-03
I liked the story but I had a little trouble believing that the characters in the story really would have done these things in real life. I guess I have trouble with real life people being woven into a fictional story, not very believable most of the time.
I thought the beginning of the story was a bit slow but it did pick up the pace after a bit. I was a little dissapointed with the ending, I guess I was hoping for someone else to have actually been the villian.
Overall, not a bad story. I'd say just not a very riviting or memorable one.

Historia
Carl Herbold enjoys being bad. After all, he is terrifyingly good at it. Stimulated by violence, he and his brother, Cecil, had easily graduated from juvenile delinquents to full-blown killers. And Carl, now serving a life sentence in an Arkansas penitentiary, carries out a daring escape with a fellow inmate and is on his way back to where he began—Blewer County, Texas. Ann Corbett had been widowed right before her son was born. Beset by debt and personal tragedy, she faces the toughest challenge of her life—unaware that she is at the center of Carl Herbold's vengeful plan.

Enjoyable
Revisado: 10-16-03
This book kept moving and kept my interest all the way through. Very interesting story. There was enough background on each character woven in to give you understanding and get to know them without being too much to get boring. I found myself not wanting to stop listening and get out of the car. I also found myself yelling at the characters at points to look out or be careful. I found myself really hating the bad guys and cheering when they got what they deserved. The ending was interesting and tied up all the questions you had through out the story. I recommend this book highly. It shoud definitely keep you entertained. There was really not much at all in this story that was predictable. Actually, quite a few unpredictable things happen throughout.

Disappointing
Revisado: 10-11-03
Based on this abridged version I have no idea how this book made it to the best sellers list. I don't know if the unabridged version is any better but this version certainly didn't seem that good. The french accents reminded me of the Pink Panther movies. The so called experts in their field didn't seem that expert since they missed obvious clues by forgetting things that had previously happened. It was kind of dull. I gave it 2 stars because I have heard worse, but I have to say I was disappointed.

I missed my exit
Revisado: 10-11-03
I thought this was an excellent book. It had me so engrossed that I actually missed my exit on the highway by 2 exits one day. The action was non-stop, the detail was good without being boring. The background of the charachters was interestingly woven in to the story as was the detail of the weapons. Never did I find myself waiting for something else to happen. I did however wish the ride home was longer some days. I highly recommend this book.

EXCELLENT
Revisado: 08-19-03
This was my first Stephen King book ever. I had always been afraid to read his books but this one just looked interesting. I was VERY glad I listened to it, it had just the right amount of scare and no gore. The fact that he reads the story himself is great. It had me interested from the start and kept me interested the entire way through. I found myself wishing my commute was longer some days. I thouroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. If you've never listed to (or read) Stephen King before this is the one to try. I recommended it to a friend and she is enjoying it now just as much as I did. Oh, and the bonus interview with him at the end is interesting too.

Historia
The long-awaited new legal thriller from John Grisham is here. In The Summons, law professor Ray Atlee and his black-sheep brother are called home by their ailing father, the Judge, for a family meeting that never takes place. The Judge dies too soon, and in doing so leaves behind a shocking secret known only to Ray. And perhaps someone else.

Ho-Hum
Revisado: 08-19-03
I really felt this book was rather boring. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen and it never did. It just plodded along and then it was over, finally. I think I'll be giving up on Grisham books. I really enjoyed 'A Time To Kill' which was my first Grisham read but so far the ones I've listened to have been rather boring. This one wasn't even as good as 'Runaway Jury' and I really didn't think that was that great either. I really don't see what made this a legal thriller since it was missing all the thrill.

Historia
The irascible husband of Victorian Egyptologist Amelia Peabody demonstrates again why he has been nicknamed "Father of Curses." Denied permission to dig at the pyramids of Dahshoor, Emerson is awarded instead the "pyramids" of Mazghunah: countless mounds of rubble in the midst of nowhere. Nothing in this barren spot seems worthy of interest - until an antiquities dealer is murdered in his Cairo shop.

It was okay
Revisado: 05-03-03
Being the first book I ever listened to by this author and since I've never read anything by her I don't know for sure if it was the style of the author or the narrator, but it took some getting used to. The story line itself was fine, I guess. Nothing that really got me excited. At the end, it was kind of like "oh, that's it, it's over". I was a bit under-whelmed by the whole story.
