Acerca de esta escucha

The irascible husband of Victorian Egyptologist Amelia Peabody demonstrates again why he has been nicknamed "Father of Curses." Denied permission to dig at the pyramids of Dahshoor, Emerson is awarded instead the "pyramids" of Mazghunah: countless mounds of rubble in the midst of nowhere. Nothing in this barren spot seems worthy of interest - until an antiquities dealer is murdered in his Cairo shop.

When a sinister Egyptian spotted at the crime scene turns up in Mazghunah, Amelia can't resist following his trail. There's a mysterious scrap of papyrus and a missing mummy case to investigate, while she keeps at least one eye on their precocious son Ramses and his Egyptian cat. But the digging turns truly dangerous when Amelia and Emerson look for answers in an ancient tomb - one that could become their grave.

Susan O’Malley is a pleasure to listen to! The story was interesting, but a bit confusing. The remarks and innuendos regarding Christians/Christianity were unnecessary.

Enjoyable

I loved this story! The narration was wonderful and the characters are really fun I'll have to read more of these!

New to me!

Elizabeth Peters writes a great story. but when the narrator adds too many embellishments like Barbara Rosenblatt, for me, I simply can't listen. it's just too much. But with Susan O'Malley her narration is calmer, still inventive and it still has personality but it doesn't add any hysteria to the portrayal. it's unfortunate that she only did six books.

I love Susan O'Malley's narration.

The book was well written and engaging. I was interested and looked forward to hearing more. I was confused by some parts that sounded different but my only guess is that it was parts that were added back in after it was unabridged.

Fun and engaging.

Good book but some odd editing which is very noticeable. I also prefer the other reader. Not bad though. Very good for a free book.

Mostly good

I have found a new love. Amelia Peabody and her Emerson mystery series. Better and better with every book, these are a delight. I’m not a fan of Historical Fiction. But these tickled my intrigue because it’s set in Egypt in the 1890’s. And they are mysteries written by an Egyptologist. 10/10. Higher if possible.

I loved the story, but the narration had several places that sounded "pasted in", as if the dialogue had to change after the fact to fit some politically correct editing. The voice of the pasted in parts was lower and more mature, so it seemed it was recorded years later. I couldn't tell any difference in the story line, but the change in narration was a little irritating.

Strange inserts in narration

If you like series of the wife and husband team, then you will enjoy this book as well. Amelia and Emerson go from one archeologist site to another and always finds a murder mystery to uncover. Their son Ramsey is right in the mix, too. While book reads overlong in some parts, it keeps you guessing and reading to see what happens next.

Another case solved in grand fashion

The sound quality of this reading was horrible and narrator's voice inconsistent. Have not experienced this with other reading any same narrator.

I thought it was okay but something was missing. Later I figured out it was not read by Barbara Rosenblat. No offense to Ms OMally but I had listened to others and it wasn’t what I expected
