This is surely not for everyone, but it is a wonderful audiobook. The author discusses and explains the "nasty" words that we all know but don't use in polite company. They are all here. But there is not simply an explanation of the meaning of these words (we know that ). We are given an explanation of how these words morph into various verbal forms.
One of the pleasures of this book is the author's style, his command of language and always having the appropriate word.
And it is so well read.
If you are ready to deal with vulgarity, you will find this book both informative and enjoyable.

These essays never lost my interest. I admired Deresiewicz's writing ability, his choice of words, his precise style. And I was caught by his analysis of the topics he chose. I felt I was carrying on a conversation as I reacted to his positions, with which I did not always agree. But each essay always moved me to reflect on his argument. And the reader did a fine job, clear and easy to listen to. I highly reccommend. I think I might buy the book.

I just finished listening to this book. Kept my interest through every minute. John Wukovits has deftly woven together events from the war in Europe and the war in the Pacific. Although he focuses on chaplains who had a Notre Dame connection, he paints a picture of the larger horrors of the war. This is a history of World War II told from the view of soldiers and saiors in the thick of battle, of their anxious families, of individual triumphs and defeats. This is a book that makes you feel a bit of what soldiers and sailors experienced. Robertson Dean does a superb job of reading it. I will keep my eye out for other books he reads.

What did you love best about Oneida?

This is a fascinating social history of the United States in the 19th and 20th centuries. The stsory weaves together religious innovations, utopian experiments, labor and industry history. Not a dull moment. And the reader gives an outstanding performance.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Oneida?

The description of the marital arrangements with its attempt to wipe out all exclusive personal attachments. This is the most eccentric but engrossing part of the story.

Which scene was your favorite?

No particualrly favorite scene, but I chose this book because I needed to use some credits. I was surprised by how good it is.

Any additional comments?

This recording is what a recorded book should be, a well written, informative, entertaining story perfectly read by the narrator.

What made the experience of listening to La Divina Commedia (New edit) the most enjoyable?

The best part is the undramatized reading by Marescotti. A real pleasure to listen to the Italian. Unfortunately this is undermined by the attempts to dramatize the poem. Instead of giving a simple narrative reading of the poem, the voices of the characters are put in a different voice. Virgil, for instance, sounds like he is in an echo chamber.

Any additional comments?

How wonderful it would be it Marescotti gave a straight reading of the Comedy. I have to return to my old recording by Albertazzi and others.

Very engaging listen

This is one of the most engaging books I have gotten from Audible. Chambers writes with such skill that you have to envy his mastery of style and wish you could match it. MacDonald does a superb job in reading the book.
Of course, it is an apologia, and towards the end Chambers annoys with his strange reluctance to simply give straight testimony. But his linguistic ability never falters.

Annoying music

This would be a good introduction to some phrases useful for tourists. It is very basic, for beginners, and the words and phrases are pronounced clearly and repeated a few times. But I found the beat of the music so distracting and annoying that I could barely get through it.
