Historia
The highly anticipated sequel to Tarr's groundbreaking Whorl, Waiting For the Kick meets up with Dave Anderson two years after the events of Whorl. Pietro Bufonte, head of Detroit's largest organized crime family, still wants Anderson dead for killing his son, and is searching relentlessly for him. World-famous, loved by many (and hated by even more) Tohono County Sheriff John Osterman, who saved Anderson's life, is now trying to save his soul while dealing with brutal cartel killers. Anderson, left near death, now dealing with both PTSD and survivor's guilt, is hiding out in the Southwest....

Great Author
Revisado: 02-23-24
One of my favorite authors and this book didn’t disappoint at all! Excellent story, plot, and characters. The virtual voice narration is clear and articulate, but doesn’t know how gun nomenclature should be pronounced. Still definitely worth the purchase and time!

Historia
"Dogsoldiers invents a new genre while endorsing an older one: it's the familiar desperate-men, desperate mission story, dating as far back as The Iliad. However, in Tarr's talented hands it becomes something brand new: a desperate mission at the end of civilization, with all the grit and savagery that implies."---Stephen Hunter, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of the Bob Lee Swagger series. . . . . Nearly ten years into a horrific civil war which has claimed the lives of millions, and that neither side seems to be winning, a squad of guerrillas crawls through the remains of a once-great city...

James Tarr Rocks
Revisado: 02-08-24
James Tarr knocked another one out of the park with Dogsoldiers! The virtual narration on the other hand makes it really difficult to listen to the gun, ammo, and military acronyms being consistently mispronounced. It’s unfortunate because the accurate use of them within the story is part of what makes James Tarr such an outstanding author in this genre.

Historia
After decades, the Mexican civil war is all but over, but a review of captured documents reveals a secret—the now-deceased guerrilla leader of La Fuerza was, for over a decade, stealing from his own revolution. Billions of dollars are missing—enough to sustain the war effort, if discovered, or maybe even topple the struggling Mexican government. Private contractor Seamus O'Malley, leading an elite team, is tasked with locating and retrieving the cash.

Realistic Fiction
Revisado: 10-11-23
Despite being written about the future in a country I’m only vaguely familiar with and featuring animals that have never been seen alive I was able to “see” the story in my head as it was read. Great story, characters, narration, and of course author!

Historia
When the pandemic hit, nobody was expecting it to be as bad as it was. The economy barely survived the lockdowns, but it staggered along until civil unrest shattered people’s hope of better times to come. With it being an election year, more and more Americans were waking up to the idea that they truly were behind the curve. The hope was if they did not get sick, run out of money, or could avoid violent mobs, they would be fine.

Unrealistic but very entertaining
Revisado: 03-24-23
This series by Boyd Craven is genuinely excellent for entertainment value along the stylings of James Wesley Rawles. There are helpful little survival tidbits to pick up on along the way, but the groups "farm", preps, and overall skill leave them with very little struggle to survive and me with a sense that it really crosses over into the unrealistic. I'm actually fine with that because I don't always want to read a survival story that spends so much time on being realistic that it comes off like a high school text book. Overall I enjoyed the story that I found myself excited for the next book all the way through the series including now hoping that book 5 will drop soon.

Glad I stuck with it!
Revisado: 03-24-23
It took forever to get the plot moving, but once it did it turned into a pretty good story. It almost feels like the author(s) need to learn how to plan and execute writing a novel. There were sub-plots that they spent a decent amount of time developing early on in the story that ended up not really contributing to the story later. In a couple of cases it kind of leaves you wondering where they had planned on using them later. Another book? Overall I'm glad that I stuck with it, but I probably will stay away from future 20+hr books by this author in the future.
