I wanted to like this biography. Under the circumstances of her untimely death, Lisa Marie Presley's life is of great interest to many. But there is not much here. Yes, she lost her famous father at an early age and that is very sad. But mere mortals also lose parents. Most of us are not privy to the wealth and privilege this woman had access to her entire life. Apparently, like many children of famous people, she had issues. We don't hear anything really new in the book. Why did she drop out of high school at 17? Most middle class families would not allow this. What happened? How did she meet her husbands? We only learn about Michael Jackson. How on earth did she manage to go through so much money? We hear she bought out theme parks for private family parties. The kids had a house in Calabasas, yet lived with her in England. Did they work? We never really learn who LMP was...her hopes, her dreams, her successes, we are stuck in the ongoing theme of her grief. This book was sad, but we never felt any hope. And LMP is still as much as an enigma as before. That is the right of anyone, the right to remain private. But if you are going to write an autobiography, give us something. I'm sorry she was so sad. I am truly moved by the loss of her son. The daughter says he never got therapy or help in any way, just reached for the gun. That is traumatizing. But again, we learn nothing as to how that came to be. No hope for families also experiencing loss. There isn't much here considering she was the daughter of one of the most famous people on the planet, had great wealth and access, was apparently talented, and married four times and was allegedly in debt at the time of her death.

I was catapulted into the time capsule of the sixties and seventies, when my own pubescent eyes were just barely aware of all the tumultuous times Green recalls. Bravely and boldly, she bares her innermost self, turning herself inside out, examining who she had been, and sharing the ride with us on how she became The Only Girl. Loved every delicious minute as she talks about those heady times before aids, about being free, yet her vulnerability peeks through the seemingly “right place in the right time” scenarios of her meteoric rise in the small world of the writers’ rooms. I didn’t want it to end. And I loved her almost deadpan delivery as she put her past under the microscope, her east coast accent sneaking in now and then. So many vignettes I want to replay, the almost vulgar moment she climbs off the erudite dude, the tender way she talks about her memories of the furniture in her mother’s room. Sad I missed seeing the photos that were surely part of the book, especially the photo that captured her youthful essence forever.

I was unable to continue listening to this book, as much as I want to hear the history of Margaret Beaufort. The narrator's voice and pace was like fingers on a blackboard, so awful I would stop and try to start again, but the voice over was so distracting, I was never able to get into the actual story.

I was fascinated by the depth Kushner gives to these stories, the thoughtfulness in revealing how she perceives each moment, and how visual the writing is. With her non-traditional upbringing and range of interests, she takes us on a real ride.

Debo, Duchess of Devonshire, a.k.a. Deborah Mitford, had the most interesting life, perhaps of all her siblings. The youngest Mitford child, she was overshadowed by her more notorious sisters, who dabbled with facism, communism and nazism. However, this book will leave your spellbound by the world she inhabited. She became Duchess by default when her brother in law was killed, and she singlehandedly transformed the vast estate that was hobbled twice by death taxes, into one of the world's sought after destinations, that of Chatsworth. Her story gives us much insight into world events, as she was friends with the Kennedys and other nobility. But her humble self shines through. I was enthralled and sad when she passed recently. I'm so interested in all biographies and histories of the British aristocracy and Debo's life was a fascinating life well lived. “AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY”

The storyline was hard to follow with the difficult names and the accurate German pronunciation. I may have to try and listen to this again as several plot lines escaped me and left me
Puzzled. I enjoy this series but this was my least favorite so far even though (spoiler alert) Tate comes

This book is poorly written, is vapid and insipid. The narrator's voice is irritating. I am always surprised when books that appear to be unedited, make it into the ranks of popular titles.

I was skeptical that another writer could capture original author's voice. I was quickly caught in the web of intrigue and great storytelling. That I've seen the films, both Swedish and American, gave me a 3D sense of the characters that were familiar to me. The narrator was great. I didn't want it to end.
