Excellent romantic fantasy
Revisado: 07-29-22
Solid 4 star read. If I could, I would round it up to possibly 4.2 stars. I was really curious about how Nina and Liam would work out their relationship. I really enjoyed how the author deepened and broadened the mystical would she tapped into in Book One. I enjoyed seeing Nina grow as a character (although I will say her tendency to run off without thinking things through a few times is what caused me to round down from 5 stars). I thought the twist of former bad guys returning was pretty brilliant. I loved Nina's grandparents even more in Book Two, and the setting was very well described, whether on a Kansas farm or doorways to the supernatural.
A well crafted, romantic story with believable supernatural elements. Suitable for fans of fantasy, paranormal romance, clean fantasy, Christian fantasy, and Christian paranormal stories.
Nichole James did an absolutely beautiful job narrating this tale. Her voice is very pleasant to listen to.

Who was Sleeping Beauty before?

Solid 4.5 fantasy for me. I dithered between a 4 and 5, only because the beginning was a tad slow for me. But I'm glad I stuck with it!
This lovely fairytale answers the question-- who was Sleeping Beauty before she became Sleeping Beauty? Even better, how will it work out for her and the prince who awakens her?
The winter palace and icy kingdom were dreamy. The characters were well fleshed out, and had many different sides. The plot had plenty of twists and turns. The MC showed lots of growth, which I loved.
I'm particularly intrigued by the seeds of a blossoming romance, especially since it wasn't who I suspected Rowan would wind up with.
I'm very interested to read/ listen to Book Two!
The narrator has a smooth, beautiful voice and did an excellent job bringing the story to life.
Highly recommended for fans of ya fantasy, clean fantasy, romantic fantasy, fairytale retellings, and fairytale fantasy.

Historia
Francesca Romano’s life is no fairy tale. Hers is an uncontrolled world of silent tears and torment, where love crumbles and tragedy looms because of things left untold - because of the secrets that are kept. A world where honesty is obsolete, and youthful rebellion turns into total chaos. Francesca tries to gain control when she disappears to a new place, hoping to never be found. To a place where she can start anew and escape the despair, emptiness, and fear of her former world.

Excellent gritty novel
Revisado: 03-31-22
This book is outside my normal genre, but it was an excellent read. I don't know exactly how I'd categorize it---gritty women's fiction, maybe? It was so full of twists and turns, complete with every shade of the human experience, and love and lives veering off course, back on again, until the cataclysmic conclusion.
The tale begins sweetly enough with Fran and Isaac's childhood romance. You'd think Fran, a girl from a good family who steps in to shelter Isaac as best she can, is going to be the strong, moral, level-headed one...but this book never leaves you with the obvious. You'd think Isaac...picked on, caring and upright but from a bad family is going to break the chains of his family legacy...but will he?
I think what I liked the most about this book was how it showed so dramatically and realistically that one choice, either for good or bad, can lead to another and another and another. Before people know it, they find themselves living lives they never expected and on a course they never intended.
I would say the emotions packed into this book are so real and powerful that it's a story well worth anyone's time. Highly recommended for fans of women's fiction and/or realistic, gritty, character-driven stories that speak to the human soul and human condition.
