Beautiful story with a really good performer
Revisado: 09-04-24
The story slotted in nicely after the first volume of the series. Istfan was amusing before and this installment gave him depth and dimension. Clara and her bear is a perfect counterpoint to his berserker and they are set up well for both action and romance.

Never Virtual Voice again
Revisado: 07-18-24
The weird emphasis or lack of the same, unironic delivery of colloquial phrases, and direct mispronounciation of words in the performance made this story a painful experience. Sorry for the author.

Historia
Since giving up the booze—bar a small hiccup here and there—ex-Ministry of Witches Detective Elise Liddell hasn’t had much call to hang out in bars. So, imagine her surprise when the generally antagonistic landlord of the Pig and Pepper calls on her for assistance. It seems Charles Lynch’s regulars are being scared away by mysterious specters. It’s hitting him where it hurts: right in the pocket. Elise agrees to help. After all, the pub is her local, and she isn’t generally spooked by the paranormal. However, the apparitions turn out to be monks. Malevolent monks!

All for a cosy mystery, but it is the performance that keeps me getting the next installment of this series.

Again a banger of a performance and a good story to carry it home. You have to live with cliffhangers but I still think it is worth it.

Historia
Dodo was dead. And there the matter should have rested. At least for DS Elise Liddell. Emotionally burnt out, she considers herself retired from police work. By rights it has nothing to do with her, but someone killed the poor man and, as Elise can resist everything except a good puzzle (and a shot of Blue Goblin vodka), here she is tangled up in a murder case. When a petty thief hands himself into the Ministry of Witches Police Department, Elise’s ex-colleagues consider it an open and shut case. She’s less convinced.

Good story, excellent narration

Great concept and a refreshing take on the freestyle sleuth.
Narration was point on down to the different accents.
Some characters were a bit more eloquent than their initial description gave us to expect, but that small overzealous hitch can easily be forgiven.

Historia
A plucky farm boy will find more than he's bargained for on his quest to awaken the sleeping princess in her cursed tower. First there's the Dark Lord, who wishes for the boy's untimely death...and also very fine cheese. Then there's a bard without a song in her heart but with a very adorable and fuzzy tail, an assassin who fears not the night but is terrified of chickens, and a mighty fighter more frightened of her sword than of her chain-mail bikini. This journey will lead to sinister umlauts, a trash-talking goat, and the Dread Necromancer Steve....

Bit too schoolboy punny for my taste
Revisado: 12-24-21
Had expected something... else and didn't really appreciate the, frankly, horrible potty puns.
The story reads quite uneven as the writers constantly tried to top one another with tropes, turns and twists more than working together on a coherent storyline.
As a audio book the saving grace was the performance, but that again only if you enjoy voice work.

Historia
In a world full of super powers, Felix has a pretty crappy one. He has the ability to modify any item he owns. To upgrade anything. Sounds great on paper. Almost like a video game. Except that the amount of power it takes to actually change, modify, or upgrade anything worthwhile is beyond his abilities. With that in mind, Felix settled into a normal life. A normal job. His entire world changes when the city he lives in is taken over by a super villain. Becoming a country of one city. A city state.

Interesting concept, a bit repetitive in the end
Revisado: 01-25-19
I really like the concept of the the accidental king pin, created almost by accident from a fast food manager with a gift that had never been that effective before slavery became a thing again.
But the endless lists of assets got very sleep inducing till the point where I had to listen to the final chapters 3 times in order to get to the finish.
The fighting was also too repetitive, I got the point very early, and would have preferred the author to address some of the "hangers", his family, the gift etc., rather than suffer through yet another battle.
Will not be purchasing coming volumes.

Historia
From Scirland to the farthest reaches of Eriga, Isabella, Lady Trent is known to be the world’s preeminent dragon naturalist. Here at last, in her own words, is the true story of a pioneering spirit who risked her reputation and her prospects to satisfy her scientific curiosity; of how she sought true love and happiness despite her lamentable eccentricities; and how she made the first of many historic discoveries that would change the world forever.

Love the tone
Revisado: 10-08-18
I really like the premise of the aging woman writing her memoirs to keep the world from glossing her over from misunderstood respect. The tone is that of the past gentleman scholar, just with a gentlewoman and in a faintly steam punk world were the reader recognize most historical equivalents. She has a wonderful loving distance to her younger self and the narration supports it beautifully. I expected more dragons, but was certainly not disappointed when the emphasis was more on the story of the protagonist. The story ends on two highs, the promise of the next installment and the introduction of the the big story line that might carry a long, solid series.
