Never a dull moment!
Revisado: 05-29-22
John Gwynne just keeps getting better and better!! I hope these books get the fame and glory they deserve. Not only an amazing series that have topped his first two, but a stellar performance from the narrator. The worst part is that now I have to wait for Book 3!😢

Historia
After the old gods warred and drove themselves to extinction, the cataclysm of their fall shattered the land of Vigrio. Now, power-hungry jarls carve out petty kingdoms, and monsters stalk the shadow-haunted woods and mountains. A world where the bones of the dead gods still hold great power, promising fame, and fortune for those brave - or desperate - enough to seek them out. As whispers of war echo over the plains and across the fjords, fate follows the footsteps of three people. All three will shape the fate of the world, as it once more teeters on the edge of chaos.

Great story, not a fan of narrator
Revisado: 12-09-21
Michael Kramer does his own voice well (rich and deep and admirable in its time), but he's terrible with accents and with female voices and with just about every character's voice in an audiobook, for that matter. I just wish he weren't so popular for some reason because he's really dimmed the quality of so many otherwise-great stories. I know this is harsh and he's probably a super nice guy in real life, but that's just my opinion, for what it's worth.

Savine dan Glokta, once Adua's most powerful investor, finds her judgement, fortune and reputation in tatters. But she still has all her ambitions, and no scruple will be permitted to stand in her way. For heroes like Leo dan Brock and Stour Nightfall, only happy with swords drawn, peace is an ordeal to end as soon as possible. But grievances must be nursed, power seized, and allies gathered first, while Rikke must master the power of the Long Eye...before it kills her.

Narrator deserves BEST NARRATOR award!
Revisado: 12-04-20
Steven Pacey is simply amazing. His voice and voice *acting* ability is absolutely unparalleled. The pacing of this particular story in the growing line of what I call "The Bloody Nine Universe" is a little slower than usual, but it's still quality stuff and I'll be anxiously awaiting the next one!😁

Decent book, can't stand the narrator
Revisado: 03-17-20
Was waiting for this book for so long. Even took notes at the end of the last one so I'd remember what was going on. Michael Kramer's narrating just sucks, though. He has a nice enough voice, but he doesn't have enough range to do female voices and his attempts at British or other accents are *pathetic*. He seems to be so in vogue these days, popping up as the narrator on all kinds of otherwise-great fantasy novels and effectively be ruining the experience (for me, at least). Others must love him, I assume, otherwise he wouldn't be getting so much work, but I'm going to take a hard pass from now on whenever I see him as the narrator.

Historia
Outcast and exiled, the demon Tarrik Nal-Valim has long been forgotten by the world of humans. At least, so he thinks. But when he is summoned as a last resort by a desperate sorcerer, it seems as though his past has caught up with him. The sorcerer is Serenity “Ren” Branwen, the daughter of Tarrik’s former master - and friend. Though she seems cold, driven, and ruthless, Tarrik can tell Ren has her back against a wall, and he is compelled by ferocious powers to obey her.

WOW!!!
Revisado: 10-27-18
I so loved this book! it is well written, has a great story that is still easy to follow, and just as importantly, it hits the ground running and doesn't stop! I love the lack of boring "down time". That's not to say it's non-stop action (it isn't), rather it's "lean and mean" without unnecessary filler. The narrator is also absolutely top-notch and I hope to hear more from him. Looking forward to the sequel!!

Awful
Revisado: 12-29-15
Any additional comments?
I've been with this series from the beginning (Wizard's First Rule). I don't know what's happened in the last several books, but the quality of writing has become *terrible*. It's as if Terry Goodkind now has a 12 year old ghost writer. His books used to be great. Now, for instance, there's apparently some mandatory rule for one of the characters to ask the exact same question "What are you talking about?" at least every 30 minutes (has anyone else noticed this? Did this book even have an editor???). The only reason I've stuck it out this long is because the story itself is somewhat interesting, even if the journey has been incredibly frustrating. Interesting ideas/story, but *awful* writing. Maybe the author is getting senile, or (far more likely) he really has handed the series off to a ghost writer to implement his ideas. Either way, it's a real tragedy.
