A Needed Voice
Revisado: 06-13-20
Madeleine Albright offers a message needed for today. Although written just mc before COVID19 and George Floyds murder, it has a prophetic tone. She is serious, funny, engaging and insightful all at the same time. My only regret is that I’ve finished the book. I want more.

Great story. But a little slow in places
Revisado: 08-21-15
This book was fascinating. I enjoyed listening. But it moved slowly in places. In my estimation There were segments the author could have tightened up the story.

Historia
When The Far Pavilions was first published 19 years ago, it moved the critic Edmund Fuller to write this: "Were Miss Kaye to produce no other book, The Far Pavilions might stand as a lasting accomplishment in a single work comparable to Margaret Mitchell's achievement in Gond With the Wind." From its beginning in the foothills of the towering Himalayas, M. M. Kaye's masterwork is a vast, rich, and vibrant tapestry of love and war that ranks with the greatest panoramic sagas of modern fiction.

Just too drawn out
Revisado: 02-20-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I should have downloaded the abridged version.
Would you recommend The Far Pavilions to your friends? Why or why not?
This story is just way too long. For the first 20 hours or so I really liked it. But then I felt as if I'd never get across that Indian desert. At one point near the end there was a big battle. I listen on my way to and from work each day...about a 30 minute ride. An entire week went by and we were still in this battle. I just couldn't wait for it to end.
What about Vikas Adam’s performance did you like?
It was very good.
Could you see The Far Pavilions being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
I think it's already a movie
Any additional comments?
Listeners need to consider the abridged version.

I wanted to like this book...but...
Revisado: 12-03-11
I really enjoy books about France, French history -- particularly the 17th century. So I really looked forward to this book. But I was so disappointed. Maybe it's my own fault. I should have realized that the title meant it would be all about his excapades with women. But this was over the top. I could barely follow who was who...when and where. After 4 hours of listening -- I did give it a decent trial -- I gave up and am downloading a new book. Other than the narrator whose voice was really engaging and probably the only thing that kept me listening, I feel as if I wasted an Audible credit on this one.

One of the best books in a long time
Revisado: 11-17-11
This is one of the best books I've read/listened to. Listening has it's added plus because you hear the voice of both the conscierge and the young girl. The flow of the writing is superb...so good that, after listening, I purchased a hard copy to go back and savor some of the well written passages. If you appreciate good writing read this book. And...just an aside...the ending was truly a total surprise.
