Acerca de esta escucha
When The Far Pavilions was first published 19 years ago, it moved the critic Edmund Fuller to write this: "Were Miss Kaye to produce no other book, The Far Pavilions might stand as a lasting accomplishment in a single work comparable to Margaret Mitchell's achievement in Gond With the Wind." From its beginning in the foothills of the towering Himalayas, M. M. Kaye's masterwork is a vast, rich, and vibrant tapestry of love and war that ranks with the greatest panoramic sagas of modern fiction.
The Far Pavilions is itself a Himalayan achievement, a book we hate to see come to an end. it is a passionate, triumphant story that excites us, fills us with joy, move us to tears, satisfies us deeply, and helps us remember just what it is we want most from a novel.

“No one believed I was destined for greatness.” So begins Isabella’s story, in this evocative, vividly imagined novel about one of history’s most famous and controversial queens - the warrior who united a fractured country, the champion of the faith whose reign gave rise to the Inquisition, and the visionary who sent Columbus to discover a new world. Acclaimed author C. W. Gortner envisages the turbulent early years of a woman whose mythic rise to power would go on to transform a monarchy, a nation, and the world.

Historia
Few American battles have been so extended, savage, and personal. A handful of Americans volunteered to live among six thousand Vietnamese, training farmers to defend their village. Such "Combined Action Platoons" (CAPs) are not a lost footnote about how the war could have been fought; only the villagers remain to bear witness. This is the story of 15 resolute young Americans matched against two hundred Viet Cong; how a CAP lived, fought, and died; and why the villagers remember them to this day.

Tusker and Lily Smalley stayed on in India. Only the tyranny of their imposing landlady threatens to upset the quiet rhythm of their days.

Along with Wit, Charm, Health, and Courage, Princess Amy of Phantasmorania receives a special fairy christening gift: Ordinariness. Unlike her six beautiful sisters, she has brown hair and freckles, and would rather have adventures than play the harp, embroider tapestries . . . or become a Queen. When her royal parents try to marry her off, Amy runs away and, because she's so ordinary, easily becomes the 14th assistant kitchen maid at a neighboring palace.

Historia
In this vast and gorgeous tapestry of a novel, serf and master, Cossack and tsar, priest and Jew are brought together in a family saga which unrolls through centuries of history to reveal that most impenetrable and mysterious of lands - Russia. Through the life of a little town east of Moscow in the Russian heartland, Edward Rutherfurd creates a sweeping family saga from the baffling contradictions of Russia's culture and her peoples - bleak yet exotic, brutal but romantic, land of ritual yet riddled with superstitious fears.

Historia
Field Marshal Viscount Slim (1891-1970) led shattered British forces from Burma to India in one of the lesser-known but more nightmarish retreats of World War II. He then restored his army's fighting capabilities and morale with virtually no support from home and counterattacked. His army's slaughter of Japanese troops ultimately liberated India and Burma.

Historia
Virtually all Americans above a certain age hold strong opinions about Douglas MacArthur. They either worship him or despise him. Now, in this superb book, one of our most outstanding writers, after a meticulous three-year examination of the record, presents his startling insights about the man. The narrative is gripping, because the general's life was fascinating. It is moving, because he was a man of vision. It ends, finally, in tragedy, because his character, though majestic, was tragically flawed.

Yes, some of the scenes were long or may be considered unnecessary as mentioned in some of the reviews but they were important to the completion of the story for some of the main characters in the book.
Well worth the purchase and I highly recommend this book.
Brilliant! Vikas Adam is a fantastic narrator!

Would you listen to The Far Pavilions again? Why?
Yes I would! Though at times the suspense was so strong that I could not sleep thinking about Ash and Jully,I think the naration was superb, one of the best I have heard as Vikas Adam changes characters....
The story is enthrolling and picturesque, the description of the terrain, the people, the history,
the bloody proud English, who thought they were better... and tried to run that world!
Who was your favorite character and why?
By far Ash! or Ashuk or Akbar, his passion, and lack of fear, and love, and impulsiveness, his knowledge and determination. his honesty and love
Also Jully, I found her to be wise beyond her age, always! and clever!! and so loving of Ashuk!
Which character – as performed by Vikas Adam – was your favorite?
All of them.....GREAT NARRATOR!!!!Ash, Jully, Wally!!, Mahud, All of them!!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Ashuk parting from SitaJully and Ashuk finally talking on the boat
Wally's honesty before he was killed
Any additional comments?
I think the end with all the killing was a bit dragged out...to long...and then the book abrutly ends with us only imagining that Ash and Jully find their valley, maybe this is better for the imagination...not convinced!Love Suspense Danger History and Life
