Historia
When I was a little girl, I dreamed a handsome knight would come and rescue me from my wretched mother. He'd ride up on his white steed and break the curse I've been fated to carry since the day I was born. Funny how things changed over time, how the fairytale twisted into something far more crooked—and darker—than I ever imagined. In reality, my knight is scarred and broken, living alone in a castle of bones that overlooks the sea. He isn’t searching for me. He never was.

Not Keri Lake’s finest work.
Revisado: 02-05-25
The twists were great, but the read overall was just okay. I’ve read and loved other works by Lake, but this definitely isn’t a book I would recommend.

Historia
After nearly eighteen months at Basgiath War College, Violet Sorrengail knows there’s no more time for lessons. No more time for uncertainty. Because the battle has truly begun, and with enemies closing in from outside their walls and within their ranks, it’s impossible to know who to trust. Now Violet must journey beyond the failing Aretian wards to seek allies from unfamiliar lands to stand with Navarre. The trip will test every bit of her wit, luck, and strength, but she will do anything to save what she loves—her dragons, her family, her home, and him.

Yarros at her finest.
Revisado: 01-23-25
Pretty sure the rest of my seat is jealous from how much time I spent sitting on the edge of it while reading Onyx Storm. Not only was the story full of non stop action, Yarros pulled out all the stops when it comes to twists and reveals in this book. This book has been well worth the wait, and I’m sure the wait for the answers to all the questions raised in this book will be worth it as well.

This is Alabaster Penitentiary... Where they send you when the world thinks you're dead. And trust me, you'll wish you were. We're the stain on society. The freaks, the creeps, your favorite Netflix documentaries come to life. They lock us up and throw away the key, because we deserve it. But not me. I'm just a lowly bank robber. I don't belong here, surrounded by psychopaths and killers with no remorse... At least, I don't think I do.

Schizophrenia isn’t a romance trope.
Revisado: 01-21-25
The first two thirds of this book were DARK, like not morally grey, but genuinely disturbing, levels of dark. And then, SPOILERS, you find out that the entire romance up to that point was an upsetting series of hallucinations due to one of the character’s schizophrenia. I’m not picking up the rest of this series.

He makes me lose all control. Ex-Special Forces and current CEO of Sinro Enterprises, I sacrifice my personal life and health to lead mercenary teams dedicated to wiping out high-profile criminals. My working hours are endless. My schedule is rigid. I leave no room for normal things like relationships. Until a pretty little thief breaks into my high-rise and shatters what I'd come to believe was peace. I find myself hesitating to pull the trigger for the first time.

Dark Romance Done Right
Revisado: 01-21-25
I don’t think I paused this book for more than 5 minutes once I started it. Normally I’m interested in much longer reads than this one because I like the build of the romance and the character development, but I got all of that plus a dark romance done the right way from this read. Emotionally powerful without all the gory details of the backstories that made the characters who they are. Explicit spice that is romantic. One of my favorite parts: really solid ending chapters that made the story feel complete without being rushed. Excited to see which character’s HEA will be next.

Gay, but not queer.
Revisado: 01-05-25
DNFing this collection and won’t be picking up anything else from this author.
Is this an MM romance? Sure. Is this a queer romance? Absolutely not. The official reason I’m never going to finish this book: the term “he she” being used twice within the first six chapters of the first book. Not to mention the blatant misogyny, biphobia (expressed by a bisexual character), and racism that have all appeared so far.
Clearly, these characters won’t be going through any meaningful character development because they aren’t the ones in need of self reflection and growth.

From a DID system’s perspective
Revisado: 12-27-24
Not only was the depiction of living life with DID accurate, the way certain topics were handled were true to how a system would want sensitive content handled. I really appreciate that the specifics of the abuse that led to the development of DID were never discussed. Each case of DID is different, but this book has so much truth in it that we felt seen for the first time in a long time. This should be required reading for anybody with any type of relationship with a system. Probably going to ask all our potential future partners to read this book.

Historia
At twenty-six, Ivy has their life figured out. They have a decent-paying job at the London office of Somnus Entertainment—the gaming company behind the wildly popular game Black Oasis—a draughty flat they inherited from their wild great aunt, and a few select friends to pass the time. They're a responsible adult, thank you very much, and while they might get lonely at times, they know better than to put too much stock into that fanciful notion known as love.

Revisado: 12-06-24
“At twenty-six, Ivy has their life figured out.” Unfortunately I, a twenty-six year old nonbinary person named Ivy, do not have my life figured out. Nor do I have a sleep demon creeping— sorry, lurking in my closet.
Mayne and Knight have just ruined all other books for me with this one. Can’t wait to see where they take the rest of this series.

Historia
Pain is an abyss. How naive of me to think I’d already reached the very depths of it when fate shook my world with a crushing blow. It turns out there are fathomless levels of pain, like a winding labyrinth of doors leading to shadowy figures and long-forgotten secrets. The kind of inescapable descent into madness that twists nightmares into reality. What lies at the end of this obscure path I have yet to discover. But where it begins is a place called Infernium: an asylum feared by those in Nightshade and untrodden by the angels who’ve forsaken its many lost souls.

So glad I ended up picking up this duology. I loved this book, but this world is so massive that I wish it was a trilogy to explore more of it.
I definitely consider myself a fan of Keri Lake after devouring these two books and can’t wait to read more from her!

Historia
My father called them messengers. He once told me they walked among us and that somewhere in this dark and godless city, there shined a faint sliver of hope. I had only to look for the signs. Well, I’ve spent my whole life investigating the inexplicable and all I've found are the unsettling vestiges of iniquity—the evidence of another world shrouded by the obscure. Purgatory to some, where depravity hides in shadows, and girls like me are little more than delicious bites of temptation. Others call it Nightshade.

I was hesitant to give this a listen at first. Basically every review I read included something about how this book deserves to be more popular, which kind of threw me off. That being said, I’m a sucker for a good long read and I was not disappointed.
Strong delivery on the gothic aspects, incredible interweaving of the past and present, and a tear jerking love story. I can’t wait to see what the second book brings to the table.

Caspien Deveraux was poison. It took me years to realise that he hadn't been born like that. He'd been cultivated and nurtured by a careful hand and a bitter heart. When I first met him, he was a bud. One primed to bloom beautifully and deadly. One I should have torn out at the root.

A standout among the ever expanding queer romance genre, Oleander perfectly captures the essence of Dickens’s beloved “grotesque tragicomic” story and sets it free to explore love, loss, and healing in the 21st century.
