Historia
It's easy to feel at home in Mitford. In these high, green hills, the air is pure, the village is charming, and the people are generally lovable. Yet Father Tim, the bachelor rector, wants something more. Enter a dog the size of a sofa who moves in and won't go away. Add an attractive neighbor who begins wearing a path through the hedge. Now, stir in a lovable but unloved boy, a mystifying jewel theft, and a secret that's 60 years old.

Trying a new series
Revisado: 02-21-22
I am trying this new (new to me) series.
😶
The general setting & people have a "kinda-normal" feel . Oh yay !
☺
I will continue the series unless it gets too sicky-sweet. - interspersed with silly tragedy. 😢 + 💏 + 🙏 LOL
U wd think those 2 elements would clash enough to impel me to give up reading ALL the books - maybe indeed that will be how it ends.
I truly appreciate the reviews other people give , so I will do my part here.
Where things go best - is that I can see a very obvious comparison to the Father Brown TV mysteries. (tho I miss a Terribly Wise Fr Brown.)
Where situations "fail" for me is a distinct social-weirdness of humans being either TOO saintly or TOO flawed. Most significantly I see a village of southern folk who are drawn to such oddities as Livermush. 😨 Of course everyone knows New England folk are infinetly bettah ☺ & ethnic foods are supposed to be Cabbage-y stuff. 👀
My reading loves R sci-fi and paranormal , so why can't I accept Southern USA oddities?
On top of that Q ... is that my own Life has MORE selflessness & MORE tragedy than happens in the Livermush Loving Mitford World.

Historia
As Dave Barry turns 70 - not happily - he realizes that his dog, Lucy, is dealing with old age far better than he is. She has more friends, fewer worries, and way more fun. So Dave decides to figure out how Lucy manages to stay so happy, to see if he can make his own life happier by doing the things she does (except for drinking from the toilet). He reconnects with old friends and tries to make new ones - turns out to be a struggle, because Lucy likes people a lot more than he does.

Afraid to Hear Last Words 😔
Revisado: 01-20-22
Books like this - "Old OLD Beloved Dog" ... tend to make us vicariously 💗 the dog ... but then we ready ourselves Bcuz we know dum-dum-dah-dum old dogs DIE in the final chapter.
I was cheered to find that there weren't endless dog stories - cuz MY dog is amazing, but let's face it - your dog is JUST a dog.
Most of the book was the Funny Dave Barry BEING the funny Dave Barry yay !
A couple of times near the end, it seemed Mr Barry was sounding emotional ... well ... oh well 😶
Some one was going to die. BUT I would rather have his dog die than have his WIFE die !

Historia
The story picks up less than a year after the events of High Priest on Union Station, with Kelly coming to the conclusion that EarthCent needs an intelligence service. Of course, EarthCent has no institutional knowledge of what spies do or how they work, so the new agency gets off to a slow start. Then Kelly and the Union Station crew come up with a brilliant idea.

six books and counting ☺
Revisado: 04-03-20
So far I have read/listened to six books and I am on to my 7th.
At 1st I was unsure how it would progress but EACH BOOK had me more firmly enmeshed & enjoying myself. 5 stars for each & ALL !
A truly funny thing is that I know the town the author lives in - with me just down the road to THE DINO TRACKS ... or as my brother said "they look like normal Train Tracks to ME !!
... although I am convinced the author is male - I do wonder if he teaches at the rather exclusive woman's college there 📚

Historia
The two-time Emmy Award-winning actress has written her first book, a surprisingly raw and triumphant memoir that is outrageous, moving, sweet, tragic, and heartbreakingly honest. Guts is a true triumph - a memoir that manages to be as frank and revealing as Augusten Burroughs, yet as hilarious and witty as David Sedaris.

amazed
Revisado: 06-14-19
I bought both the Book & Audio versions.
---------
I am someone who glances @ trashy mags at the checkout counters, unless with my classy hubby - he who prefers NOT to be with a wife of horrid taste... well, I had never seen a single reference to anything neg or 😬 offensive about this author/actor.
----------
So I was truly amazed that she had experienced or suffered these particular horrors or joys. Nothing she spoke of was unknown to me ... with 1 exception ---> 😏 KNITTERS.
-----------
Yes, worth triple the price. That is for both the entertainment factor, & for a few things of "personal worth" to me.
AND rather awesome is the fact that the author actually READS it all.
