Tragic and wonderful

I wouldn’t say this is a romance, but romance adjacent. I do love a strong fmc and Constanta was just that. There were so many layers to this story, but I’m glad that it ended how it did.

I made a terrible mistake. Being a mafia princess, I knew my fate was already decided. But I went ahead and longed for the wrong one. Creighton King is bad news with a gorgeous exterior. He’s silent, brooding, and obviously emotionally unavailable. So I thought it was over. Until he awakens a beast inside me. My name is Annika Volkov, and I’m Creighton's worst enemy. He won’t stop until he breaks me. Or I break him.

What a messy wonderful story!
Revisado: 04-13-25
I was so curious about Annika and Creighton when I saw their interactions in God of Malice. I enjoyed finding out Creigh’s backstory, and I love how messy this one got. This is definitely not any type of relationship you want in the real world, but in dark romance, it’s perfection!

I should’ve known Lincoln Pierce was trouble from the moment I held my knife to his throat. I’ve been running for most of my life, hiding away in a small town and hoping no one discovers who I truly am. The only problem is that I can never let anyone know the real me. Or at least that was true until my brother moved his best friend onto our shared property. Now, I’m stuck trying to avoid the nosy billionaire’s probing questions and piercing stares. And it doesn’t help that I almost killed him the first time we met.

THIS BOOK. THIS SERIES.
Revisado: 03-19-25
I am so in love with every single book in the series. Catherine Cowles talked about how Arden was one of her favorite FMCs, and I knew I was gonna love her, but wow, she was amazing. Arden has so much depth and getting her backstory was so wonderful. Just seeing how her passt has affected her, and how she helps others because of it, made me fall in love with her. We a good glimpse of Linc in the previous book, Broken Harbor, and I was excited to get to know him/see his backstory as well.
One thing I love about Catherine Cowles’ books, especially this series, is I feel like there’s just a realistic emotional intelligence in the characters. They are people I would want as friends. Every single person in this family is someone I would wanna hang out with. It’s just amazing to see them acknowledge their feelings, acknowledge the impact of their past, and still push themselves to thrive and connect. It’s not always easy for them, but that’s what makes it so real.
Don’t even get me started on the way these two first met each other. It definitely made me an Arden fan right from the start. Seeing the connection build between these two, and how Linc responded to Arden, was beautiful. It was also just such a perfect example of healthy support. Plus that man in spicy situations was absolutely delicious.
Lastly, I just wanna say the Colson family and how they interact is seriously amazing and I cannot wait for the next book. I guessed from the beginning of this book who the couple was gonna be for the next book and I’m so glad I was right. This definitely is making its way into one of my all-time favorite series. And I am 99.9% sure of the last couple as well, which means Catherine is going to wreck me with that book in the best way.
Highly, highly recommend this book and this entire series!!

These two!!
Revisado: 11-23-24
The first time Cope and Sutton meet was perfect. I was laughing so hard and I just couldn't wait to see what would develop between them. Sutton and her son Luca are just so adorable, and it was so fun seeing the previous couples in this one! Cope was a wonderful character and I loved how he dealt with Luca and Sutton. There is just something so special about getting to see the depth in the funny/easygoing one of the family, and seeing how much depth there really is. Catherine Cowles is really giving us a list of new book boyfriends with this Sparrow Falls series! The Reaper is definitely on that list! Also, can we talk about all of these nicknames!? I am loving seeing what these guys come up with.
I finally knew who the bad guy was, but it still didn't take anything away from this amazing story. I loved their journey, the suspense, and the whole Colson family. This family is just a patchwork of amazingness and I am sincerely looking forward to seeing the HEAs that are coming. I have loved every single book so far, and I just know that there is more goodness to come! I am specifically hoping for two adoptive siblings, but we shall see what happens! I definitely recommend this series!!
The narration was great too! It’s always amazing to get dual narration with these books!

Trust doesn’t come easily when you’ve been running for as long as I have, which is why moving in with a man I barely know is such a bad idea. Shepard Colson is all golden-boy charm and devastating good looks. But I know what it’s like to be taken in by easy smiles and the promise of forever—I have the scars to prove it.

Shep is perfection!
Revisado: 08-25-24
Well, we see shirtless sheep twice by 24%, so you know I was sold! Hehe. No, but seriously Catherine Cowles just gave me another book boyfriend. Shepard is so amazing with Thea throughout this whole book and I loved every moment of it. Something I appreciated about both of their struggles is that they found a way to come back to each other despite what was going on. Once again, I didn’t guess the right bad guy, but it honestly made a little sense after the fact.
Shepard and Thea's bond was the best. I think that Shepherd and Thea were the epitome of hope. They both had gone through things, or were dealing with things, that could kill their spirits, and yet they found what they needed. It was just so touching, and I just appreciated them as a couple and everything they did throughout the story. There was nothing that I didn't liked about these two.
I also feel like we got a lot more of the side characters in this one and it made me really excited for the next books in the series because I think you can see some of the relationship relationships coming! Lolly is hilarious and adds so much fun comedic relief to the story! I’m also pretty excited to see who Trace ends up with, because at this point I have no idea--which means we’ve got new characters coming too! And don't even get me started Fallon and Kye!!! And a side note, Rhodes and Fallon have this conversation about repeatedly watching Supernatural, so I'm pretty sure we'd be best friends in real life. Long story short, I love the worlds and characters Catherine creates and this whole family has completely won me over. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series!!

Such a good ending to this series!
Revisado: 08-11-24
Dual narration makes all the difference! This series of retellings has been so much fun to read. I love the depth to the characters, the spicy family secret, and how hard these men fall for their women. I can't believe we finally have the last Voss brother!! Obsidian has been an interesting side character in the past three books--vicious and kind of an enigma. I have been pretty excited to get his story, and it did not disappoint. I liked how things built between these two. I liked how they approached their intimacy, and how it made the spicy scenes so much better. The depth of their relationship had me completely invested, but I was so scared for the other shoe to drop. When it did, there was action, heartbreak, and it made the ending so much more satisfying. Something that P. Rayne has done so well in this entire series, is the portrayal of emotions, reactions, and conversations in such a realistic. There is reflection, and understanding, and situations get solved in a healthy way. I sincerely appreciate it. P. Rayne did such a good job with these retellings, and I can't wait to see what they come up with next!

Suspense, Spice, and a HEA!
Revisado: 06-21-24
Okay, Jason Clarke's voice was perfection for this one!! The dual narration gave it so much life. I have been enjoying this series so very much! I like how each Voss brother has their own darkness, but are all in for their ladies. I have been so curious about Nero from what we've seen in previous books. I love what P Rayne did with his story, and the retelling of Cinderella in this one. I liked Cinder, and I liked her interactions with those around her. I liked the forbidden nature of their relationship, and how it all plays out. Something I really appreciated about this one, was how honest Nero was with Cinder. I loved that he was straight up about his past and his stalking tendencies. This one had a lot going on and took us on a real journey. It was also nice to see all the fmcs friendly with each other! I love that in a series. And let's not forget that P Rayne is bringing the spice in these ones! It is definitely a steamy series, and I cannot wait for book 4!!

The scowl should’ve been my first clue to stay far away from Anson Hunt. The sexy smirk and the fact that he’s my brother’s best friend? Reasons two and three. Not to mention, he’s the new contractor working on my house. He’s everything I’m not: grumpy, rude, and more than a little attached to his solitude. It doesn’t matter how many times I try to kill him with kindness; the man simply won’t crack. Until he sees me shatter. Because when my world comes crashing down around me, Anson is the one catching me as I fall.

Love the Dual Narration!
Revisado: 05-19-24
Wow. This book was such an amazing start to the series, and I am dying to get my hands on the rest of them. First of all, meeting Anson in Ashes of You got me so invested in him as a character, and curious about what his backstory was. It was great to see how grumpy/closed off he was, and how that changes throughout the story. It felt like Rhoades was made for him. I loved getting to know Rhoades, and I loved the found family that she has. Every single sibling is someone I’m looking forward to getting a story about. I seriously feel like I need to know what their story is going to be! Not only are the characters amazing, there is also the overarching suspense plot that’s happening. There’s stuff happening to both Rhoades and Anson which readers get to see play out throughout the whole story. Seeing how they go through it and the impact it has not only on them, but everyone around them kept me so invested. Catherine did a wonderful job making it hard to guess the bad guy, as usual. I also loved how she introduced all the different characters throughout the book, and how we get a good taste of who they are and what’s in store for future books. I cannot wait for book 2, Delicate Escape. We get a single dad in there that I’m sure we’re all going to love as Catherine Cowles readers.
I also think there was just something so special about Anson & Rhoades and the development of their relationship with the trauma that connected them. These two definitely had chemistry, and I liked how it builds up over the first half of the book. When they finally give in, it is so satisfying. Catherine just did such a good job with this one, and she really started the series with a bang! It reminded me of how I felt when I read her Tattered and Torn series–which I love so much! Sparrow Falls is definitely going to be a contender for one of my favorite series by Catherine Cowles.

No one knows what happens up at Midnight Manor. The home of the Voss brothers sits like a sentinel looking down on our small town, remaining a mystery. The four brooding billionaires rarely leave the confines of the iron gates, fueling rumors that have existed for decades. When my father dies, all the security I’ve known is ripped away, forcing me to come face to face with the eldest brother, Asher Voss. His outward beauty is just as I’d heard—it belies a predatory nature, irresistibly drawing me in.

The dual narration is EVERYTHING!!
Revisado: 03-02-24
The overall feel of this Beauty and the Beast retelling was definitely my vibe. Between what happens in the basement, and the little bit of the suspense in the plot line, I was definitely intrigued. These two had quite the journey as well. I loved Archer's backstory, and I'm excited to see how it impacted all the brothers differently throughout the series. I'm always intrigued by characters that are grumpy and kind of mean, but actually can be very sweet to the woman they like. While it took him a while to warm up, there’s just something about "only nice to her" that I just really, really love! I also really loved Anabelle throughout the story. I feel like she was tested on many levels, for many reasons, and she showed up. I thought it was interesting how the authors tied in the different elements of the beauty and beast story into this one. I always find it really fascinating to see how authors do retellings, and I enjoy what they come up with. The whole vibe of this book was just totally on point for my style, which made some of the little cliche parts easier to deal with. I think this story set up a solid foundation for the rest of series. I’m feeling like it's going to get better with each book and I’m really excited about it. I do think that this would be a good introduction to dark romance for contemporary readers, because it’s not too dark. I really loved the set up for the series, and I cannot wait to get to know all the Voss Brothers! Next up is a Rapunzel retelling and I am here for it!
