Sorry, but TV series is MUCH better
Revisado: 04-09-20
I've read all of the Vera books and really enjoyed them. I like the TV show as well, Having already seen every season of Shetland, the TV series based on the books, I was excited to read this series. However, I have to say that the books' portrayal of Jimmy Perez is awful. He comes off as a not-so-intelligent and insecure man who happens to be a detective. On the TV show, however, he's portrayed as a confident, capable detective, feared by criminals and respected by his peers, who also has empathy for the downtrodden. This may seem like the same thing, but its really not. They are like two different characters! I'll probably read more in the series, but I am extremely excited for the next season of Shetland. That's the difference. The show is just brilliantly done compared to the books, which is blasphemous in the reader's world, I know, and is opposite of what I usually feel in similar circumstances.
But in this case, my advice is watch the TV show instead.

Historia
Life seems perfect in the quiet community of Valley Farm. Then a shocking discovery shatters the silence. The owners of a big country house have employed a house sitter, a young ecologist, to look after the place while they're away. But his dead body is found by the side of the lane - a lonely place to die. When DI Vera Stanhope arrives on the scene, she finds the body of a second man. What the two victims seem to have in common is a fascination with studying moths - and with catching these beautiful, intriguing creatures.

Good, not great. Narration is distraction
Revisado: 02-19-20
I love the Vera series by Ann Cleeves. But I'm finding that each subsequent book is not as good as the one before. I hope that changes with The Seagull, which I'm listening to next. This one is just not as clever, not as suspenseful or exciting as others.
The narrator for this book is okay when doing the female characters, but what a disaster with the male characters. Especially with Joe, who's one of the main characters. Its so bad, it sounds like a little child imitating an adult. I don't know, but it really took away from the story for me.
Its a good listen, entertaining, just not as crisp of a mystery.

Good 'ol British mystery similar to Agatha Christie's Poirot or Miss Marple. I love these BBC radio dramas! If you're a fan of them, you'll enjoy this, too.
Note- I I know ppl are annoyed with the music in between, but that's exactly how it was played on the radio. I simply forward thru them.

A Total Pleasure for the fan of Agatha Christie
Revisado: 02-02-19
If you love the mysteries of Christie's Poirot, then this is a real treat. The acting/performances are very well done, and the stories are nice and long, which lets the entire mystery unfold. I've already been through the other Audiobook, More of Poirot's Cases (or something like that) and they're both wonderful. I really hope that they release a third! 👍

I absolutely loved the stories and listening to the full cast - particularly the performance of Hercule Poirot - made it even better. Plus, so many stories in one book! There's one more book like this of Hercule Poirot, but those are the only two. I wish there were more!

I enjoyed this book, however I don't think it's as good as Blink, the author's other book. But definitely not bad. I just found this one a little more predictable and not as much of a "gotcha" ending. Narrator is always good.

Surprisingly very good! Keeps you guessing!
Revisado: 05-02-18
I really enjoyed this book, actually. And I say it like that because alot of these books are so similar and merely parrot one another leaving the reader bored. But the author gets the story going right away (which I like) and has you guessing til the end. The narrator was great in that I'm just remembering now to remember her. It felt like different narrators for different characters. Well done. I will now be on the lookout for both the author and narrator.
