There are very few books like this on audible currently. There are some great case study books like “Think Small” about the beetle; but no surveys for those not yet inundated in auto history. The narration, writing, and subjects of this book are great.

Historia
Initially dismissed by US President Barack Obama, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has shocked the world by conquering massive territories in both countries and promising to create a vast new Muslim caliphate that observes the strict dictates of Sharia law. In ISIS: Inside the Army of Terror, American journalist Michael Weiss and Syrian analyst Hassan Hassan explain how these violent extremists evolved from a nearly defeated Iraqi insurgent group into a jihadi army of international volunteers who have conquered territory equal to the size of Great Britain.

I really appreciate a book sometimes that just gets down to the brass tacks. Sometimes it’s fun to have a history book with stories that help capture the zeitgeist of the moment. But sometimes I just want something that trims the fat and gets to it. This book does that really well.
It comes at you very fast with information, names, and concepts. If you don’t mind re-reading a book to let all the information sink in, this is an absolutely exceptional book.

Historia
Over 12,000 helicopters were used in the Vietnam War, which is why it became known as "The Helicopter War". Almost half of the helicopters, 5,086, were lost. This memoir describes first-hand the harrowing experiences of helicopter pilots and crews in combat operations, from the far South to the DMZ, including the infamous Ashau Valley, Hamburger Hill, LZ Airborne, and others. 19 Minutes to Live illustrates the incredible courage and determination of helicopter pilots and crews supporting those heroes that carried a rucksack and a rifle in Vietnam.

Gripping, humorous, and Lively

Very glad this book is included with the audible subscription. I would have paid for it.
I’ve listened to Chickenhawk and this book, and came to enjoy this book much more. It’s significantly less dedicated to the pilot lifestyle in Vietnam and is much more centered around combat experiences; and includes other viewpoints in combat from other soldiers.
The author is able to remove fluff from the book and still keep it humorous, while not taking away from the gravity of the war. He’s able to summarize events, organization, and history for the reader in easy to understand terms. Well worth the read.
