Historia
Miracle and Wonder: Conversations with Paul Simon is part memoir, part investigation, and unlike any creative portrait you’ve ever heard before. Recorded over a series of 30 hours of conversation between Simon, Gladwell, and Gladwell’s oldest friend and co-writer, journalist and Broken Record podcast co-host Bruce Headlam, the conversation flows from Simon’s music, to his childhood in Queens, NY, to his frequent collaborators including Art Garfunkel and the nature of creativity itself.

Loved it, didn't want it to end
Revisado: 11-22-21
I have a real bias towards Paul Simon, I absolutely love his music just as a caveat. This is a conversation as the book suggests, and it works great. They talk about Pauls songwriting process, what he was thinking about when he wrote several songs and albums, how his thought process works while he is writing music, among a lot of other topics. The songwriting process is what interests me the most, as I am a songwriter as well. It is a great conversation and Paul talks about some personal topics that he has been reluctant to talk about previously. There are a couple of biographies available on audible that compliment this conversation well. I only wish it was a bit longer :)

Historia
After the Renegade mission by the crew of the starship Flying Dutchman, the UN Expeditionary Force thought Earth was safe for hundreds of years, at least. After there was trouble on the home front and the president had to authorize a nuclear strike on an American city, UNEF decided they did need the Merry Band of Pirates again. So, the Flying Dutchman is sent out on a simple recon mission. But for the pirates, nothing is ever simple, and their mission will become Armageddon.

I still enjoy the repartee
Revisado: 01-15-20
I kind of diasgree with some on the other reviewers, I still enjoy the back and forth and the formula. In my opinion the author makes the situations just different enough to be interesting still. I also feel that the author is exploring the topics that others feel he is not. He goes more into detail about the Elders and other species. It is not a book about them, but the topic is addressed. I enjoyed the book and will continue the series. Thanks. And probably it all works due to R C Bray - He is amazing.

Historia
From his rapid-fire stand-up comedy riffs to his breakout role in Mork & Mindy and his Academy Award-winning performance in Good Will Hunting, Robin Williams was a singularly innovative and beloved entertainer. He often came across as a man possessed, holding forth on culture and politics while mixing in personal revelations - all with mercurial, tongue-twisting intensity as he inhabited and shed one character after another with lightning speed. But as Dave Itzkoff shows in this revelatory biography, Williams’ comic brilliance masked a deep well of conflicting emotions and self-doubt.

Literally laughed and cried
Revisado: 11-18-19
I think Robin was such a talented person and it is so sad that he is gone. My daughter and I are watching Aladdin right now and I felt compelled to write a review of this book.
As far as the book goes, Robin is so entertaining it would be difficult to make his life boring, and the book is anything but. It is of course very well written and well narrated. The book covers Robins career and ultimate events leading up to his death. I finished the book in a few days it was so good. I did feel a strong sense of nostalgia after finishing, a kind of sadness and feeling like I should have enjoyed him more while he was alive.
Anyway it is very much worth a credit. I hope you enjoy it as much as i did.
Thanks,
E

It works
Revisado: 10-30-19
Maybe it says more about me than the book, to me the most interesting part of the book was the explanation of the Dino.
I think the other reviewer Geraldine had it exactly right. Kind of a mystery as to what this book is about before you buy.
I wont spoil anything but it is a murder mystery book, characters are great and it kept me going to the end.
The book has some great actions scenes, great dialogue and as I said the characters are memorable. Although I cant remember there names at the moment.
I usually take a little while after reading to decide on how I felt, and read it again if I am on the fence. I will probably listen to this one again.

Prefer the Bob universe
Revisado: 10-30-19
I love the Bob Universe, and kind of hesitate picking this one up. Ultimately I got it because of Ray Porter. Love Ray Porter. This book is just OK in my opinion. It doesn't make you think very much, like the Bob books did for me. I even debated whether or not to finish, but did. Its nice in that the protagonist is an unassuming man, and really emphasizes the humanity in what is happening to him. There is an accident and an alien lifeforms becomes attached to him. The book is about the struggle between the power that be and the main character wanting to selfishly keep him own life, that was a joke.
Definitely have not given up on the author though. He has some good stories in him still I think.
It might be worth the credit for you to decide.

DisneyWar is an enthralling tale of one of America's most powerful media and entertainment companies, the people who control it, and those trying to overthrow them. It tells a story that - in its sudden twists, vivid, larger-than-life characters, and thrilling climax - might itself have been the subject of a Disney classic - except that it's all true.

Fantastic
Revisado: 10-30-19
I "read" this twice. Both times after reading a biography on Walt. This picks up in the 80's and tells the story of Disney though the 90's and into the 2000's. It explains the struggle of power at Disney and the decisions that were made during that time, what movies to film, acquisitions, animated films, the parks etc. And what direction Disney took as a company.
I am a huge Disney fan and enjoyed the book. It makes you miss Walt I think, who really just wanted to entertain and make the public happy. A key takeaway I think is realizing that CEOs or the people in charge of a company are not any different than the majority of us, they just have the conceded notion that they are better than anyone else. The book in my opinion highlights a lot of corporate greed by executives. The book tells about it all in an entertaining way. Patrick Lawlor is good as a narrator.
I am looking forward to Bob Igers biography as well.
It is credit worthy.

Eric didn't ask to be a vampire. In fact he didn't even believe in them. Biting your own tongue with your fangs does a lot of convincing. Even so, being a part-time undead isn't as easy as you might think. It can let you hold down a day job, true, but sometimes the night "life" can be more than a little difficult, what with those bloodthirsty urges and predatory instincts kicking in.

Entertaining
Revisado: 10-30-19
I kind of struggled through this one. The great Sean Runnette kept me going. I have a hard time when everything is set up so perfect for the protagonist. It is an entertaining story, and started out really great then kind of leveled off, in my opinion. The magic stuff is kind of hard to swallow sometimes. It is worth the credit, and if you like the fantasy genre you will probably enjoy it.
It was the kind of story where you think the end has come then look at the amount of time left and realize that it is only about 1/2 way through, take that however you like.
This is the story of a vampire/warlock who struggles to keep his humanity which he grapples with. He is on a quest to right a wrong in bizarro earth.
There is a little surprise for an Mark Tufo fans by the way, of which I am a super fan.
Give it a shot.

Historia
This memoir is an autobiographical account of the events as witnessed by Bernal Diaz - a Conquistador on that journey - a man from Spain who desperately hoped to carve out a life of riches for himself in the new world and instead found himself on an epic journey of conquest, whilst desperately fighting to stay alive, in previously unknown and unimagined lands. This is a true tale written in his own hand and translated into English. It is a gripping account of the events from the soldiers' viewpoint as each day becomes a battle for survival against incredible odds.

First hand account of the Conquest of Mexico
Revisado: 10-30-19
This is only one of a couple of first-hand accounts written about the conquest of Mexico. Which in my mind is one of the most amazing points of history. People ask if you could go back in time, what would you like to witness, for me this is it. I have read this book numerous times and enjoy it every time. It starts out a little slow as they move through the Yucatan and then into what is today Mexico. It is said that Diaz wrote his story after reading the account written by Cortes's secretary Gomara. Diaz felt Gomara had written the account to glorify Cortes rather than get the facts straight. Diaz wrote this in his old age while living in what is today Guatemala. It tells about the travel through Mexico, the tribes of Native peoples encountered, then the entrance into Teotihuacan and his meeting of the emperor. It talks about the Aztec people and their interactions with the Spaniards. Then the destruction of the Aztec empire.
It is an incredible story, take some of the details with a grain of salt and realize that another culture seen through a foreigners eyes can be difficult.
I read that there is a series coming out about this story on Amazon staring Javier Bardem, which if true I am really looking forward to. This is a great chance to get the book before the series comes out.
The narration is a little robot like, but stick with it.

Through such hits as "The Sound of Silence", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Still Crazy After All These Years", and "Graceland", Paul Simon has spoken to us in songs for a half-century about alienation, doubt, resilience, and empathy in ways that have established him as one of the most honored and beloved songwriters in American pop music history. His music has gone beyond the sales charts into our cultural consciousness. He was the first songwriter awarded the Gershwin Prize by the Library of Congress and is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

What an incredibly talented man
Revisado: 03-27-19
This is my second time through the book and enjoyed it just as much as the first time. I disagree with the reviewer who mentioned they didn't like lyrics being read. I thought it added an interesting view of the lyrics. As he read them I remembered the song but enjoyed them on a different level, being read instead of being sung. I have been a lifelong fan of Paul and this book has helped me enjoy his life's work even more.
The narrator was great for the story, he was engaging with the writing. I highly recommend this for any Simon fan. Thanks.
