Historia
Doris Grandfelt, an employee at an accounting firm, was brutally stabbed to death . . . but nobody knew exactly where the crime took place. Her body was found the next night, dumped among a dense thicket of trees along the edge of an urban park, eight miles east of St. Paul, Minnesota. Despite her twin sister Lara Grandfelt’s persistent calls to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the killer was never found.

the lack of an ending
Revisado: 04-11-25
I actually called audible to see if there is a portion of the book missing because the ending was left wide open very little closure. there was a different narrator who wasn't bad but was just different. Virgil just didn't seem like Virgil. I'm a huge John Sanford reader and am totally disappointed.

Are those trashing this book listeninthe same book
Revisado: 09-15-19
As I read the reviews on this book, I almost passed on it because of the initial negative reviews. I decided to give it a shot anyway because I enjoy the series. As I just finished listening to it, I have to wonder if those trashing it were listening to the same book I was.
Granted, this is a new story line, but I really enjoyed it as a slight deviation from the other books in this series. Without giving away the plot, it was good to get to know more of the background and personalities of those who always work with Dewey.
In closing ........'d say pass on it if you will, but I think it will be your loss if you are a Ben Coes fan.

Historia
What makes a legendary assassin? For John Rain, it was the lessons of love, war, and betrayal he learned in Tokyo in 1972. Fresh from the killing fields of Southeast Asia, Rain works as a bagman under the watchful eye of his CIA handler, delivering cash to corrupt elements of the Japanese government. But when a delivery goes violently wrong, Rain finds himself in the crosshairs of Japan’s most powerful yakuza clan.

Great read...but audio issues
Revisado: 06-05-19
I really enjoy the series written by Barry Eisler, and he is one of the few authors who does a great job with the narration. Mr. Eisler is a true writer, not just an author. He uses very sound tactics and often expresses a phrase or description of something that makes it memorable. My only problem with the books is that there seems to be a technical glitch in all of the books I have listened to. The last word of a sentence breaks up or is cut off frequently during the narration and is really annoying. It occurs as often as every minute or so, and it sometimes makes you have to try to think what the words were so you can understand the scene. I will rate the book as a 4 star and only because of the technical recording do I not give it a 5.

Narrator destroys the story
Revisado: 12-30-17
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The story yes, but not in audio with this narrator
What did you like best about this story?
It's a typical Susan Mallery novel and doesn't stray far from her usual books. There seemed to be a little less humor in this one, but it's hard to tell because the narrator caused it to be a real challenge to listen to
How could the performance have been better?
It could ONLY get better
What would have made this romance irresistible?
It needed more fun and less serious situations.
Any additional comments?
I'm not the type that tries to be a critic with witty comments about the book's story, the author or the narrator, but this is truly one of the worst narrations I've listened to in over 10 years of audio book listening

Never written a REVIEW before, but here goes :
Revisado: 12-06-16
As always, Hurwitz' writing is masterful.
Story is a little too complex for me.
Too many names, organizations, etc. to keep track of. But, I never tire of the way Hurwitz describes every detail...in so few words...a beautiful tapestry of letters that together create an intricate picture in the 'mind's eye' of exactly what he wants us to see, and feel. He is my very favorite author! (and my favorite of his books, thus far, is THE SURVIVOR)
And Scott Brick! There are NO words that can describe my admiration of his ability to tell a story. Whatever the words on the page...he is able to bring them ALIVE for the listener like no other! His timing, the emotion he is able to convey, and his VOICES!! Just amazing. Whenever I see his name, I know I am going to LOVE this next experience...whatever the story :)
