I wanted to like this podcast. But the hosts are so slow and plodding that it takes forever to reach the advertised topic. When you finally get there, there’s not much there.

Historia
A country both admired and feared, Germany has been the epicenter of world events time and again: the Reformation, both World Wars, the fall of the Berlin Wall. It did not emerge as a modern nation until 1871 - yet today, Germany is the world's fourth-largest economy and a standard-bearer of liberal democracy.

But seems to culminate a little too neatly in a leftist view of more current events. Left me wondering if the historical record was forthrightly presented or manipulated to support a fore-ordained conclusion. Disappointing.

A good story well told from the perspective of a 13 year old boy. The characters seemed very real as they grappled with tragedy and brokenness.

Sadly, it seemed to become a paean to wokeness, in which anyone with whom the main character (and author?) disagrees religiously or politically must be an extremist. Sad. Never again.

Historia
Getting away from everything can be murder. Reachable only by the once-daily mail boat from Windeport, Carpenter’s Island is a small, peaceful community catering to the discriminating tourist wanting to truly get away from everything. Comprised of a small fishing village at one end of the rugged, forested island and a modest seaside resort at the other, it’s the epitome of picture-perfect vacation spots the State of Maine is known for, though one that paradoxically prefers to keep itself out of the limelight in deference to its well-heeled visitors. Not being the target audience for the...

Didn’t like the main character.

Kept hoping he’d be humbled by someone or something. Sadly, the suspects, even the culprit seemed more likable.
Virtual voice was especially bad. Improper voice inflections and misreading of word was common.

Historia
In elegant and often hilarious prose, Kunstler depicts our nation's evolution from the Pilgrim settlements to the modern auto suburb in all its ghastliness. The Geography of Nowhere tallies up the huge economic, social, and spiritual costs that America is paying for its car-crazed lifestyle. It is also a wake-up call for citizens to reinvent the places where we live and work, to build communities that are once again worthy of our affection. Kunstler proposes that by reviving civic art and civic life, we will rediscover public virtue and a new vision of the common good.

Extreme and dated
Revisado: 10-13-24
The author begins with a kernel of truth about America’s car culture, assigns to autos every social ill imaginable, and then warns of “imminent” calamities have yet to materialize. The book has not aged well. Anyone remember the hole in the ozone layer? Mixed in are pointless partisanship and a scorn for religious persons. There are better books to read.
