Perfect fantasy fluff for a rainy day. Legends and lattes meets spellbooks. Light hearted fluffy romcom.

Not great
Revisado: 07-28-24
I’m not sure if it was the narrator or writing I didn’t like. The world building wasn’t great. I still can’t tell you what a trog is. There’s mythical creatures but no real explanation as to what they are. There’s a huge amount of inner dialogue that gets grating.

Seeking help for her rescue mission, Marra is offered the tools she needs, but only if she can complete three seemingly impossible tasks:

Couldn’t get past the narration
Revisado: 09-11-23
I can’t tell if it’s the writing, the narrator or a combination, but this book was hard to get through. The story and world held promise but it was terribly executed. Writing was stiff, characters under developed

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Historia
Now that Trip’s siblings are safely back in the capital, he would like it if life got back to normal. As normal as possible for a half-dragon army officer learning to use his magical powers when he isn’t busy piloting with Wolf Squadron. But trouble keeps popping up, and the capital isn’t the safe haven Trip had hoped. More and more dragons are working together, with attacks growing frequent as they scheme to claim the country for themselves.

Historia
Captain Astuawilda Kaika is an elite forces soldier, a demolitions expert, and a woman who loves secret missions. She most certainly isn't someone with the patience to teach General Zirkander's raw cadets how to survive encounters with the enemy. Certain she's been given this duty as a punishment, she confronts her superiors, only to find out that King Angulus himself gave her the assignment.

Essential to story line
Revisado: 12-25-22
This should not be a .5 book. It’s essential to the story line. I moved from book 5 to book 6 and was missing important pieces of the story. Had to backtrack to 5.5 before finishing 6

Historia
Patricia Campbell's life has never felt smaller. Her ambitious husband is too busy to give her a goodbye kiss in the morning, her kids have their own lives, her senile mother-in-law needs constant care, and she's always a step behind on thank-you notes and her endless list of chores. The one thing she has to look forward to is her book club, a close-knit group of Charleston women united by their love of true crime and paperback fiction. At these meetings they're as likely to talk about the Manson family as they are marriage, motherhood, and neighborhood gossip.

Terrible
Revisado: 08-03-21
Started off ok, then got good for maybe an hour, then took a nose dive into terrible. This is not fried green tomatoes meets steel magnolias. It’s not even about a book clubs guide to slaying vampires. It’s stupid women wringing their hands and doing nothing. The book drags and drags and then drags some more. And the very graphic disturbing abuse, rape, child suicide, and sex acts with minors is underplayed and too much at the same time. Listing it all out makes it sound like there’s some action in the book, but there’s not. I think this is the first book I’ve ever gotten more than half way through and still wanted to quit.
