Historia
On November 15, 1959, in the small town of Holcomb, Kansas, four members of the Clutter family were savagely murdered by blasts from a shotgun held a few inches from their faces. There was no apparent motive for the crime, and there were almost no clues.

Journalism is great, story is boring
Revisado: 03-14-25
Capote obviously put in a lot of work on this. The journalism is remarkable. However, it was boring to listen to. I had to force myself to finish.

Historia
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Nothing but True Fantasy Writing
Revisado: 04-01-24
Brandon Sanderson is amazing at writing pure fantasy. World-building at its finest. With Sanderson books, there's no need for foul language or sexual storyline. The writing and story holds its own without the need to draw the readers in with other nonsense. This is actually my third series of his to dive into, and I cannot wait for more of it!

SO. FREAKING. GOOD.
Revisado: 09-16-23
If you've made it this far in this series, you're not looking at reviews, but I had to leave one for Sarah Maas. I laughed. I cried. I cheered. I died a little inside. What a fantastic series. I've listened to books 1-4 all in the space of two weeks so far. That's like 150 hours of listening time. And, I am immediately going on to book 6 because it is that good. Thank you for putting this out into the world, Sarah. For all of us to experience and love.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

So Much to Say About This
Revisado: 02-07-23
Firstly, I was so unbelieving that the voice who was reading this could possibly have been even a remotely successful actor that I had to research it. still can't believe it. Her read was quite possibly the most horrendously bad, monotone reading I've ever heard. It was almost as if this book was not actually written by her but by a ghostwriter, and she was just hired to pretend it was hers. That's how bad it is.
Secondly, what a terrible person. Yeah, I said it. Here's the thing: I understand all she went through. I have lived similar things. However, trauma doesn't give you the entitlement to throw everyone around you under the bus. It doesn't give a person the right to name and shame because of pent up anger and resentment. It was a wise business move for her to get out of acting because she would never have been hired again anyway after this project. I cannot imagine those who were actual fans of hers remaining so after hearing how much she hated them even talking to her. The disappointment for her fans after this must be immense.
Thirdly, it sounds like Ms. McCurdy may need to be extremely cognizant of the fact that narcissists raise narcissists.

Great Listening
Revisado: 01-11-23
First, Frank Muller is fantastic, as always. Next, I want to say that I've been apprehensive about purchasing these short story compilations. I don't know why, but I felt like maybe I wouldn't enjoy them as much as the full-length novels. Perhaps I was worried that I wouldn't get my money's worth. That was certainly not the case. The main reason is that, as Mr. King expresses in the Afterword, these are quite lengthy short stories. I'm quite pleased, and will be much braver in choosing other compilations in the future. Lastly, the only issue I had was the completely haywire way the chapters are organized. There's no way of knowing when one book ends and another begins. Some "chapters" are over an hour long, followed by chapters less than five minutes in length, all from the same story. Shoddy. Needs immediate attention. All in all, it was a great listen.

Historia
In December 1975, the Lutz family moved into their new home on suburban Long Island. George and Kathleen Lutz knew that, one year earlier, Ronald DeFeo had murdered his parents, brothers, and sisters in the house, but the property - complete with boathouse and swimming pool - and the price were too good to pass up. This is the shocking true story of an American dream that turned into a nightmare beyond imagining for the Lutz family, who were forced to flee their new home in terror.

What a fascinating tale
Revisado: 12-30-22
What is to be said about this? First, the audible version is fine. Listen to it, if for no other reason than to know this fascinating story. It cannot answer the question for any of us as to what to believe regarding demons, possession, hauntings or any other paranormal happenings. For this family, however, they certainly do not need to wonder. It definitely makes you think deeply about what this world really is, what and who inhabits it, and the "laws" that seem to govern the behavior of the inhabitants. Pretty wild stuff.

I cannot stand this narrator
Revisado: 12-27-22
This is the second King novel I've listened to thay was narrated by Mr. Numrich, and they are both terrible. No matter what can be said about King's more recent work (So lazy compared to his earlier works) they cannot possibly be given justice by Numrich's blandness of the main characters. Why on earth would a narrator give every other character hints of personality except for the main character?! Jamie hardly gets voice inflection unless he is supposed to be really upset, and even then it is done so stiffly that it's ridiculous. I really hope whoever is hiring narrators for King's upcoming works pulls his thumbs out of his ears.

Getting a Bit Silly
Revisado: 12-26-22
I enjoyed the simplicity of the first book's storyline, however by this third book the tale seems to have become so silly now that it's lost me. I pushed through because I hate leaving a book midway, and I'm always hopeful that it will win in the end. It's like Chainani took parts of every modern magic story and stuffed them all in one book, and it seems like the story got away from the author near the end. He pulled it off, but barely. I'm not sure I will be moving onto parts 4-6.
