The AI does a disturbingly good job narrating this. I would have preferred a human. Also, I have questions about the translation of this, as there were modern phrases used. Now, I was driving and haven't looked it up in the text, so maybe it was just the way the AI read it, but there was actually a "miss me with" [something] -- I don't know what, bc I was too shocked. Several occurances of "stuff" which also seemed anachronistic.

I actually she'd happy tears. Great plot and sweet slow burn romance. Best holiday short story yet! 💖 Dov's narrator's cadence and pronunciation does remind me of the Twilight Zone's narrator, Rod Sterling, from time to time in both books I've heard him narrate, but he's still a very good narrator. Highly recommend this one, and will look for more by this author.

The narrator did a terrific job. The book, however, was dissapointing. It never really picked up steam, and when it did, it quickly fizzled and the majority of the book was pretty dull. It was a struggle to finish, and I almost put it on the DNF list. Stuck it out, and it began to pick up again about chapter 40, but by then I just wanted it to be done.
**mild spoilers below**

I never bought Abby being the connection, and thry never explained why. I also never believed Mitch would let her go to be the go between. If I were Mitch, no way I'd let Abby be the go between. I never felt like that was believable. Nor did I see how the grandparents would, given the extreme circumstances, be like, "so, when are you going to be done hiding from murderous terrorists? We wanna get back to our bride group," or whatever. I realize their family relations are strained, but, come on.
It felt like there were a lot of places where the story bogged down and it could have been removed without any loss to the plot of the book, and it would have improved the pacing. In The Firm was much more fast paced, and things were constantly happening. In this book, Mitch flies around alot to have meals with people to discuss things, Abby does the dangerous stuff. Eventually. When Mitch flew home after the catalyst event happens, I kept waiting for the action to pick back up. How was he going to get back in the mix? He never really did, and it just DRAGGED.
Overall, pretty disappointed.

This book MUST be listened to! It's definitely one I will listen to again and again! The narrator brings such life to the characters, and what they did to voice Rocky is genius and completely wonderful! It's been a while since I have felt so overjoyed by a book, so transported! I loved every second of it!

I think it's better than The Martian, or every bit as good!

Get this one! Get it now! If you enjoyed The Martian, you'll love this one!

My first time reading (listening to) the book and I loved every minute! There was some surprising foreshadowing that the movie omitted, and I finally discovered Peeves, and I was surprised how some things were different in the movie than the book, and I cried at the end to discover how Harry got the scrapbook of his parents!
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!
Happy 25th Birthday Happey Potter! Thank you J.K. Rowling for a wonderful, magical world, and thank you Audible, for letting us listen for free to celebrate! ❤️❤️❤️

Cons:
I gave up trying to keep everyone straight. I highly recommend starting a character list from the start. I wish thry would include one.
Maas has a TERRIBLE habit of reusing words. The many refrences to nausea or vomiting, people clicking their tongues so many times that the word jumps off the page (23 times in the last book). Her editor really should point this out to her. All through these three books, the nausea and clicking happen sp often that I ended up saying, "there's another one," and just rolled my eyes. The nausea is used as a crutch to find other descriptors of what the characters are feeling, and it grated on my nerves. I grew so tired of it that I just didn't think I could finish the book. I almost put it down and walked away from the series.

But then I got to part three.

Pros:
The books builds to an epic battle of almost unimaginable scope and scale, as though you are watching King Xerxes I invade Greece in 480 BC (BTW, the movie The 300 is horrendous. Watch the documentary from the History Channel "Last Stand of the 300" -- it is FAR superior to that movie if you love history.)
Maas plunges you into the fray, and every moment is gripping. Set aside the day to give yourself over to that part, because you won't want to put it down. Just that part made the whole rest of the book worth it, made reading the first two worth it. That was the most exciting read I've had in a long while! Edge of my seat from start to finish!
The narration is absolutely terrific, and her inflections are at times heart-wrenching. She submerged you in every moment, and makes it all spring to life in front of you.
All in all, I definitely recommend this book. If you can avoid tossing the book down in frustration at all the clicking and nausea (and people making "a rude gesture" when it doesn't even make sense -- it was so comical that I started imagining the friends fist bump gesture), and loosing track of who's who, then you are in for a treat at the end!

It's not 1984, but it's good and certainly timely

I read 1984 when I was in high school. I followed politics pretty closely, and still I felt as if I'd had blinders thrown off. When I heard Yeonmi Park say that she read this book and it all made sense to her, I knew I had to read it.

As with 1984, you won't enjoy the read. You read it with an icy knot in your stomach because you know what's coming. You can see the decline, and know where it's headed.

Let Orwell serve as a prophet warning against the doom of our nation, and our world. This was meant as a book against Stalin's Communism. The Animal Farm started out Socialist. Socialism can never be "done right" because, while it sounds good on paper, it goes against human nature. Socialism eventually gives way to Communism, as the Animal Farm experienced. What started out as (almost) everyone pulling together, ended up being Napoleon and the pigs ruling over the other animals in a way that was WORSE than when the humans ran the farm.
No matter how many intellectual Socialist "pigs" try to tell you otherwise, the system ALWAYS ends in starvation, oppression, and death.

Just found this in June of 2023, and it may be even more pertinent now than ever. Definitely one I will be getting in physical form to have on my shelf as a reference book. One thing the physical copy will lack, however, is the very entertaining parts where Michael Knowles does a Donald Trump and Dr. Fauci imitation! 😄 Cannot recommend highly enough!

The narrator did a fantastic job, and I will be looking for more that he's done.
This was my first book by Sowell, and it was (of course) very informative, enlightening, and engaging. I do advise that you also get an ebook or physical copy for making notations. This is a book that is so crammed with facts and stats that, for me, I wanted to have something I can annotate and use for reference. I got the ebook, but, I think this is one I want a physical copy for as well. He dives into the past to really get at the heart of discrimination, slavery, societal development, etc in groups of people all over the world at different points in history. Some of it I was thinking, "where's he going with this?" In the end, though, when he pulls it all together, you understand because he took the time to set it up earlier.
I will definitely be pairing the audiobooks and physical books as I make my way through his works. I get most of my reading done while shopping, driving, cooking, etc. but a physical copy to underline and tab important passages will be necessary for me. He gives so many great facts and statistics that, loathe as I am to write in a book, this should be treated as a textbook that you can reach for as a reference book. Highly recommend this book!

Don't care much for Feyre, but Rhys shines

Total

Revisado: 06-08-23

1) Feyre has a constant battle with nausea and vomiting throughout the whole book. Everything makes her stomach turn over or her lunch threaten to come up. It happens so much it's distracting.

2) Feyre reacts in ways that don't make sense sometimes, and (especially at one crucial part) it's like the author said, "they got close, now they need to argue for the sake of tension."

3) As "meh" as some parts were, and as irritating as I found Feyre at times, Rhys is written wonderfully and is worth reading just for him. The last 1/3 of the book more than made up for any parts that I found lacking, and had me on the edge of my seat. Couldn't put it down and read for hours straight until I finished it. The dynamic between them has been wonderful since book 1 and I absolutely am about to go buy the next one!

4) Some of the really important plot points at the end were kind of confusing to me, and didn't make much sense in the end. One part in particular seemed to make no difference at all. It was still exciting, you are just kind of left scratching your head about a majoelr point or two.

5) the narration was terrific, but, perhaps a tad slow, so I listed on 1.25 for most of it.

All in all, if you want an epic romance that sweeps you along for an action-adventure as well, then this is your book! (Even with the parts that make your eyes roll or don't make sense.) Enjoyed this one more than the first one.
