Historia
Look Who's Back is a cutting satire on modern media-bloated, celebrity-obsessed society, seen through the eyes of Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler wakes up on a patch of open ground, alive and well. It is the Summer of 2011 and things have changed - no Eva Braun, no Nazi party, no war. Hitler barely recognizes his beloved Fatherland, filled with immigrants and run by a woman.

Translates well across language, cultures and time. The Translator's Notes on historical figures referenced and the list of acronyms at the end are especially helpful.

Historia
When Maine game warden Mike Bowditch is tasked with shooting invasive feral hogs that are tearing up the forest in his district, he makes a horrific discovery—a dead baby buried in a shallow grave. Even more disturbing: evidence suggests the infant was the child of a young woman who was presumed to have died four years earlier after she disappeared from a group rafting trip. As Bowditch assists the reopened investigation, he begins to suspect that some of his neighbors aren’t who they seem to be.

As a resident of Western Maine I am impressed once again with the way Doiron captures the feel of the various areas of Maine he writes about. He truly has a great understanding of the people of Maine as well as of the flora, fauna, and geography.

Interesting
Revisado: 04-25-24
Very interesting. Based on a true story. Well-researched. But the narration is overboard on the melodrama. Too much emotion attached to the narration. It takes away from the story.

Historia
The city has become a warzone. Charlie and her companions must survive the gangs and corrupt government agents that are out to stake their claims on the nation’s riches. Should she try and flee to the countryside, with each neighborhood a potential trap and every house a threat? Or should she stay and fight the building tyranny? Dwindling food supplies and the daily risk of capture are taking their toll. Mistakes are fatal, and the exhaustion that comes with living under constant danger is wearing them down.

Great plot, just like the ‘Home’ survival series. It’s hard to put these books down-but with every egregious dangling modifier I edge closer and closer to quitting Mr. Angery’s series. For an author who has published so many books, this writer hasn’t a clue about some of the basics of English grammar. Please learn what a dangling modifier is, and take steps to avoid them-or at least get an editor who is in the know who can fix them for you. I’m available, my services are inexpensive and I’d love to help. Again, fantastic plots and actions.

A catastrophic pandemic ravages the globe, reducing the human population to extinction levels and cleansing the world of mediocrity. A doomsday prepper, a molecular geneticist, a journal-keeping loner, and a martial arts-trained nerd survive the disease that annihilated almost everyone else on the planet. Despite the miles between Kansas and California, Texas and Arizona, the four share a connection. They realize that not dying was the easy part. Now a year later, they navigate a bleak world...one without technology, without modern medicine, and without law and order.

Intriguing
Revisado: 01-06-24
Very engaging characters and backstories, that leave me with more questions and a desire to know what happens next. A perfectly crafted opening work in a series. It’s notable also that there’s an intellectual appeal here in directions such as anthropology, philosophy, and biology. It’s refreshing to have such subjects broached in novels of a genre in which firearms, military action and viscera can be overly focused on. I’m moving immediately on to the next book in the series.

Ugh
Revisado: 11-29-23
As apocalyptic fiction goes, this is pretty awful. The writing itself is ok, except that descriptive details are vague or nonexistent. Calling the enemy ‘terrorists’ over and over is simplistic. The narration sounds strangled, kind of like a pre-pubescent male talking through a lungful of pot smoke.

After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

Revisado: 12-27-21
Terrific series. Keep Hidden continues the story of Warden Mike Bowditch. The narrator does a good job with Maine accents. But his mispronunciation of ‘gunwale’-at least as I know it to be pronounced in New England, more like ‘gunnel’ than ‘gun whale’-was a little weird.

The author’s experience as a Maine Warden and his obvious love for the North Woods shine through and make this a fantastic, fast-paced story. The narration is really good too; the narrator does a good Maine accent without overdoing it. Perfect!

An incredible story of strength-physical, spiritual and emotional. This story is wonderfully written and read by an unassuming young man of rare courage, and the equally courageous group of young men he was canoe trekking with. I can’t recommend this highly enough.
