Good, but…
Revisado: 03-10-24
The different accent voices are wearing on me. Sometimes the different cultural stuff feels like the author is leaning too much into stereotype. In a bad way.

Historia
Alma Katsu calls My Heart Is a Chainsaw “a homage to slasher films that also manages to defy and transcend genre.” On the surface is a story of murder in small-town America. But beneath is its beating heart: a biting critique of American colonialism, Indigenous displacement, and gentrification, and a heartbreaking portrait of a broken young girl who uses horror movies to cope with the horror of her own life.

The only thing I’m not satisfied with is the ending. It doesn’t give much closure.

Historia
During the languid days of the Christmas break, a group of 30-something friends from Oxford meets to welcome in the New Year together, a tradition they began as students 10 years ago. For this vacation, they’ve chosen an idyllic and isolated estate in the Scottish Highlands - the perfect place to get away and unwind by themselves. They arrive on December 30, just before a historic blizzard seals the lodge off from the outside world. Two days later, on New Year’s Day, one of them is dead.

Hope Emma Dies First
Revisado: 05-18-21
She’s such a shallow, narcissistic basic-bitch that I can’t take anymore of her by the end of chapter eleven. Oh god please let her get whacked first so we’re done with her... Heather is on par with calling her a “Budget Miranda”. I’ve known people like her: obsessed with ingratiating themselves into a group, or who HAVE to plan the big trip so they can feel good about themselves. I seriously cannot take her knocking the Highland Dinner.

Über Unlikeable Protagonist
Revisado: 05-01-21
Louise, truly Leann, is a major bitch sociopath. I was extremely disappointed she wasn’t caught. I have trauma, more than her to be honest, but there are some people you just can’t bring yourself to root for, no matter what they’ve been through. Leann is one of them. The fact that I don’t even call her Louise shows my own pettiness and extent of my own hatred of this ***t.
Rebecca seems to suffer more.. It feels clear to me that her mother has NPD. The way she berates herself and constantly hears her mother’s voice bagging on her gives it away. I’m glad with how she ends up, but she deserves better. Wish she’d caught that unlovable wretch Leann. 👎🏽

Good book, hated the mc from the start!
Revisado: 10-17-20
I love that this puts a twist on the genre, and that Margo is so unlikable. I honestly didn’t root for her at all, and I feel she deserves worse than she got.
This book deals with a number of people with ASPD, and some are kinder people than others. I have known people irl with this problem, and find the same thing holds true. You can choose to help others and dedicate your life to being good, or you can try to run. Either way, you’ll eventually get your due.

Historia
You’ve never met the other wives. None of you know each other, and because of this unconventional arrangement, you can see your husband only one day a week. But you love him so much you don’t care. Or at least that’s what you’ve told yourself. But one day, while you’re doing laundry, you find a scrap of paper in his pocket—an appointment reminder for a woman named Hannah, and you just know it’s another of the wives.

Main Character is Revolting
Revisado: 03-29-20
I am a little over 2.5 hours in and will update when I finish. This is the most annoying book I’ve had on Audible and felt compelled to give some notes already.
The main character is whiny, jealous, bitter, and loathly self-pitying about a situation SHE CHOSE and could easily leave. I feel misled by the description: I thought this is about people who are polyamarous and it is NOT. The author seems to use Mormonism as a scapegoat for the husband’s behaviour. I am not religious and don’t have any strong opinions on this faith, yet the author’s implications feel disgusting and like shoddy plot-fodder.
The leading lady is terribly dislikable and constantly bemoans her free choices, stalks the other women, and generally engages in toxic behaviours instead of trying to better herself and her life. She could and should leave Seth—if she isn’t happy, she needs to take control of her life. She has a good career (but is nasty to her coworkers), has a few close friends (with whom she refuses to share anything with and shit-talks), and parents (she seems to hate her mother but doesn’t stand up to her and says she pities her father but never sees him, while saying she doesn’t an awful marriage like theirs she puts herself in a situation just as bad). She’s an overall toxic, untrustworthy, repugnant human being.

Historia
Amber Patterson is fed up. She's tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more - a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted. To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne - a socialite and philanthropist - and her real-estate mogul husband, Jackson, are a couple straight out of a fairy tale. Amber's envy could eat her alive...if she didn't have a plan.

Awesome thriller!
Revisado: 02-06-20
My only complaint is that when the voices switched, it was difficult to keep up with Daphne’s quicker pace. Had to reset my brain a bit and put it down a few hours to be able to get used to it.
