Too much psychology bashing

I learned a lot about anthropology, and enjoyed the descriptions of interesting research. Ms Tett is very passionate about that discipline. I got tired of the constant bashing of psychology. Individual differences predict behavior, too. Each is an imperfect science. I would like to see research combining both disciplines.

Let’s hold onto democracy

Mr Luce has a keen insight into the evolution and now seeming devolution of democracy. This book moves fast and is well-written. He incorporates economics, politics, and sociology to explain the rise of the right around the world, though his focus is primarily the east. He’s the reason I subscribe to FT. I look forward to his appearances on one of my favorite podcasts.

Bad AI

I couldn’t get past the AI voice. It mispronounced words (scariff for sheriff) or mumbled some phrases that left me confused. There were several dates I couldn’t understand and a city in Florida I missed. There was no inflection - it was a monotonous. I want a real person.

Audible/Amazon - if this is the future, you really need to train this AI better or I won’t use your product. I assume memberships will be way cheaper for those who don’t mind the AI.

Animal Abuse Warning

I liked the story for the most part, and the performances were great. I can’t handle animal abuse. I barely made it past the cat killings, but Oscar’s death pushed me over. Someone let me know how it ends.

Engrossing

I was captivated from the scene in the grocery store and never looked back. The characters were flawed and complex, and I found myself sympathetic to one but not the other only to reverse myself a few chapters later. The story is tragic and beautiful at the same time. I still think about all the characters.

Well Done!

I was captivated from the first episode. Bungey & Forde did a wonderful job telling this complicated story. I'm referring to both the layout of the story and their calm, pleasant voices. They expertly weaved the different threads together back and forth in time while reminding us that the reason for this story was Toscan du Plantier's murder, despite the ink one of the suspects kept squirting in the water. I hope they put together more stories like this. I'd definitely listen!

Unkind Harry

Harry can be brusk, but still lovable. In 9 Dragons, he was impatient, rude, and self-righteous. In short, he was unkind, and he didn't redeem himself. I hope he comes out of this definite funk.

I have a chip on my shoulder

Interesting story line. I found a couple of things bothersome. Evelyn has a gigantic chip on her shoulder, and it's not flattering. Some people use these 'chips' to their advantage as motivators. She's constantly complaining that others don't or won't give her a fair shake because of her sex, race, physical size,etc. At times she feels very sorry for herself because of her mother's bad parenting and boyfriends. I enjoy books with strong female protagonists, but not whiny ones.

However, when she's not whining, I find her interesting. I will give the second book a try.

There should be a warning for animal lovers

I got almost 7 hours into this book. I was really into the story about murder for hire. Then the animal experimentation began.

I'm going to ask for a refund.

Dick Hill was awesome as usual.
