It was ok. TW: SA/SV
Revisado: 02-17-25
This is a fairly quick read, but don't expect any deep character development. after listening to 8 hrs of this I still know very little about Stephanie, and nothing about any other character. The writing is honestly kind of 8th grade reading level, but the topics are certainly not. Violent sequel assault and torture are discussed like someone talking about any mundane topic. It's definitely cringe. I get that this book was written over 25 years ago, but I seriously hope the author has improved since then. Not sure I care enough to pay for a book to find out.
Narration also leaves a lot to be desired. The narrators gasping breath between every other sentence gers distracting, and the reading pace is so slow that it makes the slow book a slog to get through. I sped it up to 1.15 to get through a bit faster without distorting the voices.
This is not a book I would recommend to any of my friends. I'd be embarrassed at the juvenile writing.

Excellent!
Revisado: 02-15-25
This is a good story told from a woman's perspective which is quite different from so many other post apocalyptic books. I would say it has a good balance of detail enough to tell the story, without being gory for gore's sake. It is not for the squeamish. It is life post collapse and isn't pretty, but it is a good story of finding ones strength and even the psychology seems sound toward the end. I enjoyed it.

Historia
Most children go through a dinosaur phase. Learning all the tongue-twisting names, picking favourites based on ferocity, armour, or sheer size. For many kids this love of ‘terrible lizards’ fizzles out at some point between starting and leaving primary school. All those fancy names slowly forgotten, no longer any need for a favourite. For all those child dino fanatics who didn’t grow up to become paleontologists, dinosaurs seem like something out of mythology. They are dragons, pictures in books, abstract, other, extinct.

Interesting and informative.

Not boring like some documentary style books tend to be. This book kept my attention throughout. Narration was very good with actual interviews with other scientists, as well. Highly recommend.

Historia
Esme is born into a world of words. Motherless and irrepressibly curious, she spends her childhood in the Scriptorium, an Oxford garden shed in which her father and a team of dedicated lexicographers are collecting words for the very first Oxford English Dictionary. Young Esme’s place is beneath the sorting table, unseen and unheard. One day a slip of paper containing the word bondmaid flutters beneath the table. She rescues the slip and, learning that the word means “slave girl,” begins to collect other words discarded or neglected by the dictionary men.

Language and words tell us who we are.
Revisado: 07-21-24
If you love words, language, and the discussion of them, you will like this book. If you are interested in women's issues and how our language affects, defines, and explains them, you may love this book. I loved it.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

I loved this book. The characters are well developed. The storyline is a wonderful roller coaster of intense, action, thoughtful and thought-provoking. I had not read anything of A.W. before and I will surely be looking for more. The end made me cry for the mix of sadness and joy.

Historia
Jay is a prisoner at a government mandated labor camp, and is willing to risk his life in order to escape. Nothing can be worse than his current reality of working for no pay and choking down the slop they call food. The day before his big escape, Jay is handed an envelope and told to report to headquarters. It turns out he's been selected to participate in the Rare Bull Program, as he's one of the country's few surviving fertile males. The girls in the program are gorgeous, fertile, and eager to be pumped and filled until their bellies are bulging. It's up to Jay to provide the missing ...

AI might work for some narration, but this is not it. Steamy scenes were read with flat emotion, wrong inflection, and mispronounced basic words. Just no. Gross.

Getting good.
Revisado: 03-22-24
As the plot thickens, the characters are taking shape even more and the larger story is coming to light.
Good overall, but each installment isn't really a stand alone, as the characters manage to save themselves, but the greater story is not resolved.
Narration is good, though. On to the next.

Historia
Wizard Lily Singer is kept busy managing library archives, studying magic, and trying to keep her witch friend Sebastian from dragging her into trouble. Unfortunately, he loves adventure even more than she loves being left alone. She doesn't want to investigate a malignant spell in a haunted house, but Sebastian is promising rare books as the reward. She also doesn't want to hurt her family but is tired of being lied to about her past. And she definitely doesn't want to get stuck in a dangerously unstable time loop, but Sebastian is in trouble - again....

Good so far.
Revisado: 03-20-24
This book seemed to start a bit slow, but picked up as the story went on. it did seem a bit disjointed at times. The beginning didn't really tie in to the later half, like they should have been two separate stories.
I look forward to the series as it continues. On to the next one.

Historia
Rare-book dealer Ashlyn Greer’s affinity for books extends beyond the intoxicating scent of old paper, ink, and leather. She can feel the echoes of the books’ previous owners—an emotional fingerprint only she can read. When Ashlyn discovers a pair of beautifully bound volumes that appear to have never been published, her gift quickly becomes an obsession. Not only is each inscribed with a startling incrimination, but the authors, Hemi and Belle, tell conflicting sides of a tragic romance.

Sad story, but a positive ending.
Revisado: 03-06-24
I took a bit to really get engaged with the story, but once I did, I ended up listening to the whole thing in a day. I grew to feel the characters, good and bad, like family.
It's not a fast paced story, but kind of a slow burn as it all comes together.
Narration was very good, too.

Revisado: 12-19-23
This is a lovely story, at least as much as I could hear of it. The second half of the download is not playing correctly. Every few seconds it cuts out for a couple seconds. I can get the jist of the story, but it is not exactly enjoyable to listen to. I have tried redownloading twice in different quality, but it still won't play right. Bummer.
