Enjoyable Slow Burn

I’m always a sucker for a good slow-burn. This one was definitely worth a credit. The story moved quickly despite being a slow-burn, which makes or breaks these types of books for me. Will have to look into more books by this author.

My new favorite!

I absolutely adore all of Susie Tate’s books, and this one was no different. I absolutely loved hearing Verity’s story, and her character really resonated with me as a female in a high level position where I don’t ever let people see me break, and also had to learn how to let people in. Unperfect is one of my favorite books of all-time, and this one is no different. I will definitely be re-reading and re-listening to this one many times in the future.

Thoroughly enjoyed

I listen to a lot of contemporary romance audiobooks, and this one really pulled me out of a slump. College aged romance isn’t usually my go-to, but this one was so good. One of my favorite tropes is forced proximity, and this was FP gold. 😍 If you like a good hockey romance, don’t skip this one.

Honestly, this author usually isn’t at the top of my list, but because of the tropes, I thought I would give it a shot this week. This one was hands down the best out of all the ones I’ve read of this author. If you’re a fan of these tropes, you won’t regret this one.

It lost me in the end…

I loved the first 2/3 of this, but the last 1/3 just completely lost me. The FMC just became completely spineless and it felt so rushed. The actions by the MMC were absolutely ridiculous and everything felt so discombobulated. I was initially looking forward to the rest of the books, but they won’t be worth it for me after that ending.

Honestly sad I wasted my time…

I really really enjoyed The Woodsman by this author so I thought I would give this series a shot, which was a total mistake. I think the MMC was written with the intent to seem quite “alpha”, but really was just quite cringe. And I’m usually all about alpha protectors, but this one was just gross. The FMC was also just written very dense for the type of person that she was supposed to be. None of it made any sense and was predictable within literally the first few chapters, but I hung on in hopes I would be surprised. Alas, I was not. What did surprise me is how I managed to hang on until the end.

I initially read this book over a year ago, and it was one of my favorites, so of course when I saw it was on audio I immediately knew it was time for a re-read! The narrators did amazing bringing this one to life in audio.

This was my first read of Lily Gold, and definitely won’t be my last. This had just enough angst to tug my heart strings and keep me enthralled, but not so much that it ripped my heart out before putting it back together. Loved the story and the narration.
