Historia
"Something clearly stinks in how police handled this case." - Tony Serra, famed Civil Rights Attorney Andy Kinyon was a gifted salesman, a hustler in the best sense of the word. He became the top earner for the publisher of LOOK Magazine at the age of 22 in 1965. That same year, he befriended notable figures like Ken Kesey, Owsley Stanley, and Jerry Garcia. Andy was among the first to join the counter-culture movement in Haight-Ashbury and worked for Bill Graham and Chet Helms, conducting psychedelic light shows for performances by Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, and many others. ...

Entertaining true crime that kept me interested from start to finish. Interesting speculation as to why SF police didn’t solve case at the time.

Historia
Tom Crean was the farmer’s son from Kerry who sailed on three major expeditions to the unknown Antarctic over a century ago. He served with both Captain Robert Scott and Sir Ernest Shackleton, spent longer on the ice than either and outlived them both. But Tom Crean returned to Ireland and never spoke about his exploits, taking his incredible story to the grave - until the publication of An Unsung Hero, which unearthed his story and saw him rightfully placed amongst the annals of the great explorers.

I was captured from the very first. A compelling story with a focus not on Scott, Shackleton, or Amundsen, but on Irishman Tom Crean and his courageous contributions to the Discovery, Terra Nova, and Endurance Antarctic expeditions.

Historia
At the end of the last century, Johnstown, Pennsylvania, was a booming coal-and-steel town filled with hardworking families striving for a piece of the nation's burgeoning industrial prosperity. In the mountains above Johnstown, an old earth dam had been hastily rebuilt to create a lake for an exclusive summer resort patronized by the tycoons of that same industrial prosperity, among them Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick, and Andrew Mellon.

Excellent book, well read
Revisado: 02-19-23
I have known about the flood for 40 years, having read a commentary by the libertarian Albert Jay Nock in his book “Our Enemy, the State” in which he highlighted the efficient outpouring of private charity in the aftermath.
The book makes real to the reader the horrifying flood and its absolute devastation of Jamestown and the aftermath. The vividness of the telling is compelling and worth the read.

Historia
When he first met the man who called himself David Koresh, David Thibodeau was drumming for a rock band that was going nowhere fast. Intrigued and frustrated with a stalled music career, Thibodeau gradually became a follower and moved to the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas. He remained there until April 19, 1993, when the compound was stormed and burnt to the ground after a 51-day standoff. In this book, Thibodeau explores why so many people came to believe that Koresh was divinely inspired.

extremely sad story
Revisado: 01-28-23
This was an easy to follow narrative. Such a sad story. A sympathetic telling of an outrageous event. The FBI and ATF have still not been held responsible, and that has had continuing repercussions.

From an acclaimed Harvard professor and one of Time’s most influential people, this paradigm-shifting audiobook shows how almost everything we think we know about aging is wrong, offers a front-row seat to the amazing global effort to slow, stop, and reverse aging, and calls listeners to consider a future where aging can be treated.

Goes off rail
Revisado: 03-27-21
I found the first part very interesting as Sinclair recounts aspects of research on aging- 5*. I found the last part, his conclusion, a bit naive and irritating. 1*. Hence the 3* rating. I rated the “story” an arbitrary 4*.
