Ruth Jefferson is a labor and delivery nurse at a Connecticut hospital with more than 20 years’ experience. During her shift, Ruth begins a routine checkup on a newborn, only to be told a few minutes later that she’s been reassigned to another patient. Powerful story
Revisado: 01-11-22
There were times I had to stop listening because the words from the white supremacy character were so true to the hate permeating our country today. The entire story is well written, relevant and honest. Jodie always knows how to weave a powerful story with lessons to be heard and hopefully absorbed. This story kept be totally engaged.

Predictably entertaining
Revisado: 07-19-21
The story line was predictable, but I listen to books like this when I want an escape from a mundane task. The story doesn’t take great concentration and I can listen and work. It’s a pleasant story with a happy ending.

Slow start but then grabs on
Revisado: 06-11-21
This story did not catch my interest at first and I thought about quitting, but then it got more interesting and kept me engaged. Let’s just say I sat in a hot car in a parking lot in the hot sun to hear the last 10 minutes to find out how it ends.

Captured me from the beginning
Revisado: 05-31-21
I am not a basketball fan but you don’t have to be to enjoy this story. It is a well written, heart touching novel. I usually listen while doing housework. Wanting to continue hearing the story, my house has never been so clean!

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Very enjoyable
Revisado: 02-24-21
At first I couldn’t get into the story and almost gave up. But the fact that Tom Hanks narrated it made me think it deserved a chance. Soon I was hooked. Beautiful story, well written and touching. Glad I didn’t give up too soon!
