I have read many books and articles about the impact of renowned women’s suffrage leaders from the late 19th century and early 20th century. Never had I ever learned the name of Dr. Mary E. Walker. This book not only brings attention to a remarkable woman of US History but one that was a Medal of Honor recipient, army surgeon, advocate, political, law, and the skills, honors, and contributions goes on. Dr. Mary E. Walker is someone I want my daughters to learn about, someone who found her foundation and did not let society break that away from them. My only complaint of the book is that the author inferred what they believed Mary would have been feeling, it would have been more impactful to just tell the story and her words, and not try to guess at her minds thoughts.
