Life is good at Frogmorton Farm. Yes, Jenny and Russell are still broke. Yes, the roof still leaks. And yes, the Checklands are about to become the long-suffering owners of a battalion of trouble-seeking Patagonian Attack Chickens. But life is still quite wonderful for someone who used to be called the Nothing Girl.

Even better than the first book
Revisado: 08-14-24
What a perfect marriage of author and narrator! The characters are beautifully formed, and the scene set so well, Frogmorton comes to life as well. This story is a trifecta of sweet, silly, and suspenseful. I cried, and laughed, and cried again. Listening to this gem was cathartic to my heart.

Historia
When Harper Shaw’s life falls apart, she knows it’s time for a change. She removes everything that doesn’t spark joy—from her soul-sucking job to eating kale to making lists—and sets off for the last place she was happy, Lake Tahoe (who wouldn’t feel good there, right?) to fulfill her dream of opening her own bakery. With her Sugar Pine Bakery in between a tavern, owned by sexy, grumpy Bodie Campbell, and a bookstore, run by her new BFF, she feels a peace she’s never experienced since…well, forever.. Then she meets Ivy, a teenage runaway, who barrels into her heart.

Another sweet gem from Shalvis!
Revisado: 07-25-23
I know what to expect from a Jill Shalvis story, and that is precisely why I choose her works. Fun characters, heart-warming story, an author who takes time to set the scene. Also, Jill would never, EVER kill a canine character for emotional manipulation.
The new narrator is such a breath of fresh air, I'm grateful for the change!
Ivy was the character I was most invested in. Her arc made sense, and her reactions were believable. Are the romances a little far-fetched? Sure. Is it great fun? ABSOLUTELY.
I would like to challenge Jill Shalvis to not use the word "amazing" or the question "where is your head at" in a book. I've read all her work, and these are repeated so often, they pull me out of the moment.

Kirk just keeps getting better!
Revisado: 08-17-22
I cried TWICE during this book, and laughed exponentially more. The pace is excellent, Kirk is a terrific storyteller whose creativity remains anchored in believability. I love imperfect Jack Logan. I love his whole team.
Angus King is a master of his craft, but deserves an extra shout of for his narration in this book. As an American, and Texan, I can say those accents are spot on. The American characters are over the top, and not very likeable...so, SUPER accurate.
Well done, and thank you!

worst heroine ever
Revisado: 07-10-22
Hannah whines, faints, and pukes at the least provocation. She is a perpetual victim, at her job, in her relationship, etc, etc. We are supposed to believe that this vapid, self-absorbed woman is a mystery solving, brilliant reporter/writer. Everything falls into her lap, and she still can't get it together.
The narrator has a beautiful speaking voice, but doesn't vary with characters, and puts a strange, song-song inflection on "HanNAH" whenever someone addresses the character. In her defense, no amount of skill or talent from the narrator could save this book.

Not at all up to the LK standard
Revisado: 03-21-22
Lisa Klepas is a brilliant writer. She builds scenes with her words that engage all the senses. Kleypas tells compelling stories, with well-developed characters who the reader comes to care about deeply...
...This book is none of those things. This reads like a generic, ho-hum, run of the mill romance. I won't believe the author is satisfied with this work - part of me doubts Klepas wrote it! I imagine her publisher was pressuring LK to wrap this series up. I know I waited a long time for this book, so long that I quit expecting it.
As a Texan, he accents the narrator used bugged me. WAY more Alabama than Texas. The inflection used seemed over-dramatic, and often mis-timed.

Historia
Lou Ann Hunter’s mother, Patricia, has always had a passionate nature, which explains why she’s been married and divorced five times and spooned enough male patients to be ousted from three elderly care facilities. She also has Alzheimer’s, which is why she wants to spend the rest of her life surrounded by childhood memories at Sutton Hall, her family’s decrepit plantation home in Louisiana. Lou Ann, aka Lulu the Love Guru, has built an empire preaching sex, love, and relationship advice to the women of America - mostly by defying the example her mother has set for her.

Excellent story - narration inappropriate for cont
Revisado: 01-12-22
This story was deeper, and heavier than I expected. Dementia is a weighty burden to bear, and the narrator's fluffy, bouncy tone never changed, even when gravitas was required.
The southern male voices are SO cringey, you'll be glad it's mostly women.
Loved the story arc, and the characters.

I found myself wishing I had been able to edit this for the author- it felt very jr high sometimes. Also, THREE men are all obsessed with the main character? Gag. Narrator is...fine. I liked the first book better, which was free with my membership. Unfortunately, I paid for this one.

Gratuitous, with Cheap emotional manipulation.
Revisado: 08-18-21
I listened to this months ago, and I'm STILL furious. Marsters masterful narration could not save this book.
*SPOILERS*
Butcher did Murphy WRONG. He also conveniently paved the way for Molly and Harry to get together. (Excuse me while I vomit). This book is one...long...gratuitous...fight scene - with intermittent self-flagellation and mental drama for Harry. This was a cheap shot, Mr Butcher. I'm finished with this series.

Just as beautiful as the first time I read it.
Revisado: 08-18-21
Years ago, this book was my gateway drug to the world of SEP. I was delighted by the narrator, she captured the South beautifully. I cried all over again. The characters struggle in a profoundly human way. I'm a different person than I was 15 years ago when I first read this, and my older, wiser self appreciated this story on a whole new level.
